Reflections of Yesterday

Simon Canfield and Angie Robinson were in love at seventeen, but Simon’s wealthy parents paid Angie and her father to leave town. Now, twelve years later, Angie’s got a fiancé and a successful business of her own. She returns home to Groves Point, South Carolina, to repay the money and reclaim her family pride…and discovers that her feelings for Simon haven’t changed. But Simon is bitter over her betrayal. Can she make him see the truth?

Yesterday’s Hero

When marine biologist Leah Talmadge gets the chance of a lifetime—an expedition to study the rare whales off the Diamantina Islands—she can’t refuse. Even if it means temporarily marrying world-famous photographer Cain Hawkins. The governor of the islands won’t allow two unmarried people to live together, and they both desperately want to document the whales. So why not? Yet an invisible link exists between Cain and Leah…and both of them know they’ll never be the same!

Reflections of Yesterday...A time occupier to read. You know Simon and Angie will end up together. You read to find out how it ends. Glenn is a nice guy but he and Clay (the Dad) are totally against Simon. Wish the book had an Epilogue so there was more...A story of parents trying to get in the way of love.

Yesterday’s Hero...Cain a photographer and Leah a marine biologist get married just so they can travel to an island to study whales. Leah loves Siggy but she leaves him and what do you think happens with Cain? Predictable yes! However you will never guess the surprise that is revealed when they return home that keeps them together forever! It was a good read that I read in a day....definitely better than Reflections of Yesterday.

Super disappointed in the first story. I'm a huge lover of romance novels and overcoming difficulties but the main character just made me mad. She's described as being all these wonderful things yet really she's spineless and abused at every turn. The way these characters turn their personalities on a dime was so disorienting and utterly unbelievable. Make no mistake...letting her dad say the things he did to her just blew me out if the water. All the men in this womans life go from adoration to pure evil so quick I'm just.....ugh. Yeah. Here's hoping the second story isn't as bad. Kinda feel like this novel was squeezed out without nearly enough thought. Couldn't even enjoy it was a mindless fluff read. Made me too mad.

In the first story, Simon and Angie were high school sweethearts: Simon's parents paid Angie's father to leave town. Fast forward to twelve years later -- Angie has a fiance and a successful business when she decides to return to her hometown for a visit. Simon is bitter. The couple's relationship is rocky. In the second story, Leah is a marine biologist who is offered a unique opportunity to travel to the Diamantina Islands to study whales. The catch -- she needs to marry the photographer to appease the government. I marvel at the author's creativity with so many written novels, however, I felt that the plots of these two stories dragged. A tighter and more concise flow would be appealing to the reader.

I enjoy the storytelling and way the same plot line can be told in so many different ways. I was reminded of my own life as she tells of a high school romance torn apart with what seems impossible odds to overcome. The other story was so cute of strangers having to marry to go on an expedition both see as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Sad to say, I was disappointed. Lots of grammatical errors and weird sentences like, “Wordlessly she drove to the doctor’s office, chatting to keep her mind off how worried she was.”

I did really like the second story, though.

Both are cute compelling reads, though somewhat predictable. There is never a doubt that the protagonists in each book will wind up together, but the way they get there is fun.

I don't want to go and spoil anything but both stories in the book I really enjoyed. The 2nd one started off slowly but at some point I couldn't put the book down. A must read..

I'm a HUGE fan of Macomber, but this collection is NOT her finest. Overwritten, repetitive, and predictable, I learned more on how not to write a romance than how to write one.

Love Debbie Macomber, but these stories were originally published in the 1980s and aren't aging well. Lots of stereotypes here. I liked the second story better than the first...

I enjoyed both the stories in this book but perhaps not quite as much as her longer single novels. Good for a beach read.

Good romantic escapade. I particularly loved the second story since it featured whales. Not bad for what she published back in the 80's.
