Capital Falling

Lance Winkless

As black smoke rises, order disintegrates...

Former SAS soldier Andy Richards is no stranger to horrors, but no training could ever have prepared him for the nightmare unfolding at home. While a viral epidemic hammers London, Andy finds himself trapped in the epicenter, forced to protect his family. Together with his young daughter, he leads a small group of survivors toward latent refuge, all the while searching for his missing son and infantryman; this is the ultimate game of survival.

With those infected displaying brutal, inhuman behavior and caught up in a climate of martial law, no one can be trusted. Old connections may help to unravel this mystery virus, but the resultant hellscape means Andy and his group meet danger at every turn.

Stakes are high, and failing means a fate worse than death...

------------------------

The perfect tale for troubled times, Capital Falling delivers dark thrills and surprising sentiment—twisted, cerebral fun. You’ll race to the end like your life depends on it...

What a fantastic read, action, suspense and feeling, couldn't put it down, would definitely recommend and not just for the zombies, this book is much more than that, although they are good.

This was a good book.
This could have been easily a four if not even a 5 star read for me, but the editor was missing.

Slight corrections, the author got caught up in the details of certain scenes at the wrong times, especially when in combat action.
It prominently altered the reading experience after they left Orion. It was so detailed that time stretched and I constantly wondered how much fuel does a helicopter have? How long can a helicopter stay in the air?

A few vocabulary errors here and there.

Oh and at times the timely description of a sequence was jumbled.
Like when the reaction comes before the words were spoken.

So much potential
I am on to the next book.

I just loved reading this story. A new fresh take on zombies and how they are infected. Possible hope among all the chaos. There is tons of action, thrills, nail biting moments and twists and turns. I am a.ready reading book two. A must read story.

This book has it all. It was thrilling, scary with humour and raw emotion thrown in to the mix. The characters were relatable and very well written. My favourite by far was Andy and Emily’s father/daughter relationship, you could really feel what they were going through. I was hooked from the start and couldn’t put it down, a definite sign of a good read. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series and highly recommend everyone to give this book a read, you definitely won’t regret it. Well done Lance!

I was not expecting this book to be as good as it was since most apocalypse books with kids in them seem to also have a lot of whining, but this is really very good.
The characters are almost all likable, even though it took me a little to really get into the story.

Andy Richards faces huge hurdles as he tries to protect his daughter and locate his son during an apocalyptic event in London. Fast paced and action packed. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Better than average modern zpoc though tbh a fairy basic read.

Okay, my gripe. The author claims this is intended for 25-40? This is a serious disconnect with the adult mind. These books are Young Adult. Naughty words and a little gore don't make a horror nor do they mean they're adult books? It's something I come across often with modern authors.

To create a zpoc book aimed at adults you need a dark atmosphere, especially when it's horror. This series is too much action, little in the way of tension building, chilling, oppressive scenarios that induce fear.

Omega Days book 1 by John L. Campbell, the author should read for everyday gritty reality. Dark horror, read Apocalypse Crusade book 1 by Peter Meredith. Chilling atmosphere, try reading Alaskan Undead by Sean Schubert. Bleakness, Winkless should read The Last Plague by Rich Hawkins (especially book 2). Adult conversations and sociopolitical context, try The Living Dead by George A. Romero & Daniel Kraus.

Then come back with a new series Lance.

Surprised that I enjoyed this book

I had no idea that "zombies" were the reason for the capital to fall but the author had me so engrossed that by the time the zombies made an appearance I couldn't put the book down I just had to see how this was going to play out. When I turned the last page and it said continued I knew that I would have to find the next book.
Not a zombie lover but this book might just change my mind.

Capital falling

Why? A contagious disease centre in London. Suddenly goes on fire, a rabid virus that has been stored there has been unleashed on the people in the centre, rampaging through the streets of London, each rabid attacking and eating people who become rabid also. These are very fast and very aggressive rabids.
How far will this go

Started well

I would not recommend this book as it starts well but then it goes stupid. What do you think would happen to anyone that tried to hijack a military helicopter in time of a emergency, if by some chance you did pull it of you would expect to spend years in prison and it would not matter who you're friends were. There is this thing called chain of command.

Gripping

This book grips you from the start, the build up to the apocalypse grabs you not like in some stories that try to shock you to get your interest, but in a thoughtful way, you get to know the main characters and their background in a interesting way.
I can't wait to read the next book, I hope this will be the start of a long series.

A slow start...

I truly enjoy reading zombie apocalypse books, but this first book was a little too slow at first. I find it hard to continue reading a book if the first few chapters don't intrigue me. I did finish book 1 and I'm hoping book 2 will be better...

Gripping story

This book was another zombie book so I didn't expect to enjoy it however I read it in 4 days a record for me, the story based in the UK rather than the US added to my interest further and I will be reading the rest of the series

Captain richards is the hero, but the zombies are just too much. The story takes place over a short period, and this seems more unrealistic.

If zombies are not your cup of tea this book is not for you. Strong family values. Characters need more development in this first book of series.

Fantastic read, great characters. Way past your normal zombie books that seem the same. Really enjoyed the camaraderie that was evident. Cannot wait for book 2!
