The authors have adapted some of the basic/essential Buddhist principles (the 4 noble truths and the Eightfold path) for people who are in some form of recovery or who have been affected by addiction.

This book, in particular, keeps the fundamentals simple in form while providing material and guidance to go deeper. I am part of a group that has been reading it in a meeting setting and we are all quite amazed nearly every week at how well written it is. They provide examples from their own lives, others and have also inserted powerful messages from Pema Chodron, Tic Nat Hahn, John Kabat Zinn and more.

I have not come across a better book on recovery that provides such powerful concepts and tools to address addiction and suffering. That is not to say that other books(Big Book, 12&12, The Basic Test) are poor on unuseful, just that this is one incredibly well written and practical and more than likely benefits from previous works.
