Grant Brothers #2

The Cowboy’s Contract Marriage

Rate this book
Jonah Grant wants to make his own mark on the world. As a horse breeder starting his business from scratch, he hasn’t had the easiest road. But he might have finally caught a break in the form of two beautiful studs for sale that would be perfect for his stock. The problem is Jonah doesn’t have the funds, or any means of getting them—until an old friend shows up with a proposition.

Virginia Leeland wants to build something of her own. The daughter of a traditional family, she refuses to stand behind a husband...she wants to stand on her own two feet. Still, she’ll take advantage of the money bequeathed to her by her grandmother and use it to buy Jonah’s beautiful old barn to host weddings in. The funds, however, are only available upon her marriage, so it’s a good thing she’s engaged.

But when Virginia catches her no-good, cheating fiancé, well, cheating on her, the marriage plans dry up, along with the funds for her business, and Jonah’s plans for expansion. The situation seems hopeless. That is, until Virginia has a champagne-fueled epiphany: she and Jonah can marry. In name only, of course.

But when their agreement becomes more than simply a marriage by name, their passion creates all types of entanglements: the enjoyable kind, as well as the more permanent sort. In the end, Virginia and Jonah will need to decide if they still only care about their business goals…or if the chance at love is what will really make their dreams come true.

This novel contains sexual content and profanity.

This is amusing, romantic and sweet. Johan is charming, generous, cheeky and stubborn. Virginia is determined, tough and caring. They played together when they were children, a lot of the time in an old barn, with Virginia playing bride. She always tried to get Jonah to be her groom, but he never would. She always wanted to have a wedding business, so when she was set to get an inheritance after she got married, she went to Jonah about buying the old barn to turn into her wedding venue business. Jonah agreed because he needed money to get two horses he wanted. When she called off her wedding to her fiancé, she went and asked Jonah if he would marry her, temporarily, so she could get the money, he agreed, he had already put a deposit on the horses. Everything was good at the start, she did her thing and he did his, until she needed his help. They ended up spending a lot of time together, and both became used to having the other around. One thing led to another so when it was time for their marriage to end, neither wanted it to, but neither had the guts to say anything. It's a wonderful, entertaining story.

The Cowboy's Contract Marriage, Book 2 by Leslie North. This is Jonah and Virginia's story. I really enjoyed this story of these childhood friends. Virginia needs to get married in order to get the money her grandmother left her to start her wedding business Jonah wants two stud horses to grow his business and he has the barn that Virginia wants. Hence the marriage contract. I love watching Jonah fall in love with Virginia. Watching him learn that helping her was helping him. The way the book was written it had me wanting more of the country wedding vibe. It was fun and exciting. From friends to Lovers. What starter off as fa key quickly turned inot very real lover aND the perect marrive for them..

Jonah and Virginia have known each other since childhood. Virginia approaches him about a business proposition. He owns a horse ranch and she is about to get married. She wants to buy one of his barns to turn into a wedding venue and in turn he will get enough money to buy a couple of horses he wants. As soon as she gets married she will get her money from her trust fund left to her by her Grandmother. But things don’t go as planned. Her wedding falls through. So she asks Jonah if he would marry her in order for her to get her money. He really wants those horses so he agrees, they will be fake married a few months and then get.a divorce. But nothing is as easy as it seems.

Well if this book doesnt help to make a bad day brighter, I'm not sure what could. Jonah and Virginia were just amazing. From how they started to where they ended, I was fully involved in rooting for them. Their chemistry was great. It also helped that Jonah was so easy to fall for. I never thought I'd want to be called "sugar" before now.
I recommend this book. Cant wait for the next Grant brother.
Happy reading!

The cowboys marriage book two is about Jonah the middle brother. What a happy romantic story. Jonah and Virginia are the perfect couple both strong, independent and loving, this is a real page turner. Jonah is very independent and doesn’t trust easily can Virginia change that about him. A story about not realising what you have till it too later, but can Jonah fix it before it’s too late. Read to find out.

A convenient plan leads to an inconvenient heartache. Can Jonah and Virginia stop the damage before It's too late? From friends to lovers spells TROUBLE. The Cowboy's Contract Marriage is deliciously unpredictable in the most obvious of ways. North turns up the seduction with a heartache and a smile. A temptation not to be missed.

Original review. https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/20...

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m starting to feel the burnout of so many books by Leslie North in a row, but I must push just a little bit longer… because I only have one left and I will clear (almost) my ARC list!! This second book of the Grant Brothers hasn’t helped me to take this quest with more enthusiasm. It’s all too correct and simple. Nothing to be mad or happy about.

The second Grant brother is Jonah, the horse breeder (it sounds horrible. but I promise there is not bestiality involved) who wants a couple of studs to improve his stock. Sadly, those horses cost a pretty penny and he won’t be able to get his dreams without help. Here enters Virginia, a friend from his childhood who is about to inherit a small fortune thanks to her impending wedding. She offers Jonah some money in exchange of one of his barns to perform wedding ceremonies. All seems good, until the future husband becomes a cheater and all their plans are destroyed. Except there is a simple solution: a fake marriage between Jonah and Virginia to inherit the money. Is all as fake as they claim it to be?

This is not the first fake relationship book I have read, but it is the first where the main couple gets wed as part of the pretension. In this case is even the very first step, which I found very weird. They needed the money, but it wasn’t a life or death scenario. They could have survived just fine without the extra influx, so I find very strange that a couple of adults would go to those lengths in order to get some dollars. Is that even legal? There are so many details that could have gone wrong. A marriage is a bonding in many levels, but these two didn’t think too much about it. I guess they are the adventurous type, but in my opinion they are risking much more than what they are getting. And why Jonah’s brother, Ian, seemed OK with all of that? His support is strange…

Setting aside my doubts about Jonah and Virginia being intelligent beings, I must say the story is enjoyable. The pace is just slow enough to make the reconnection between the main characters believable. Their love story develops little by little, but in a somehow realistic way for such weird start point. They really get to know each other and learn how to function as a couple, so I must congratulate the author on that; because the previous books by Leslie I have read had a a very weak romantic component. The mandatory fight to bring drama wasn’t as forced as in other stories, but the resolution of the conflict lacks emotion. The main problem with this book is that it is 100% correct, but utterly unremarkable. I don’t think I’m going to remember any of it by the end of the year.

That lack of significant moments in the story (good or bad) is also translated into the characters. There is nothing noteworthy about them. Nothing that makes me cringe or makes me smile. Tailored personalities for the story. I prefer loving or hating them… this in between is just so bland. Dull story + dull characters = dull book. Thanks to the short length, I can’t say the book is boring; but some spice would have worked wonders. Some funny moments or sexy banter. Something to stir the waters of the perfectly still lake where this story sits. So yeah, enjoyable story, but zero rush to leave an impression.

Taking into account that I have mentioned the unprotected sex as a negative part of the previous books, I must point out that in this one Virginia and Jonah behave like responsible adults. I know, I know. The same couple who fakes a marriage is smart enough to know that using protection is important. It’s good to see that I wasn’t a crazy guy living in a dystopian world…

The third borther is a guy called Nate and, so far, he is a mystery. One that I will unveil in the next book.

Jonah and Virginia have known each since they were children. They were friends then, but have each gone in different directions since then. Both have dreams of building a successful business, but to do that each needs an influx of cash. Virginia approaches Jonah with an offer to buy the old unused barn on his property. She wants to renovate the barn to be a wedding venue and launch her wedding planning business. She also reveals that she will inherit a large amount of money after her wedding, which will happen soon, so financing her plan will be no problem. Jonah wants to buy stud horses for a breeding program that will expand his business, so he agrees to her proposition. When Virginia’s wedding is called off, they concoct another plan. Virginia will marry Jonah in order to inherit the money. He will get the money to buy the studs he wants, and she will get a venue for her business. No love involved, just a marriage of convenience. The close proximity, and working to achieve a common goal fire up their attraction for each other and lead to very intimate moments together. They both deny what’s really happening between them, claiming they are just good friends and business partners. Jonah has reasons not to trust a business partner, and seeks to put distance between them when he realizes they are getting far to close. Will these two stubborn, forthright people discover they are meant to be together or is divorce in their future?

I loved the dynamic between Jonah and Virginia. They are perfect for each other, yet somehow fail to see what is right in front of them. This fast-paced, quirky romance is a very enjoyable read.

I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through Booksprouts arc

Jonah had an horse training business that is all he wanted to do. Virginia rides up in her car and he couldn’t figure out what she wanted. Virginia wasn’t dressed for the ranch so Jonah couldn’t figure why she was there. Then she tells him about what she would like to do with the barn. She also had known about the two studs were up for sale and he didn’t have the money. Virginia was to be married and found her fiancé with his receptionist. Virginia needed to be married to get her inheritance so she asks Jonah to marry her. His brother and sister in law came over to the ranch to talk to him about what he was about to do. Jonah and Victoria get married and Ian, Jonah brother and Katie were there as witnesses. Virginia finds out that the barn needed to be fixed and Jonah showed her as the wall collapse. Virginia started having feeling for Jonah but she had no idea if he felt anything for her. She told him they should go a date since they are married and that people could see them. Jonah takes her to the race track she was thrilled it reminded her about when she was young. Virginia picked up another client at the track by coincidence. Virginia’s business had taken off and she was thrilled. Now it was the time to help Jonah fulfill his dream. Jonah gets some bad news and Virginia said she would take care of it. Jonah and Virginia were getting to the end of their agreement...will they stay married, get a divorce or lose their dreams. *Some Spoilers*

Yet another great series by the best selling author, Leslie North. This is the second book in the Grant Brothers Series and it's even better than book 1 which I really enjoyed. Here we meet Jonah who wants to breed horses and tries to strive towards doing that. He did have a partner in the past but he was no good and all Jonah's plans were dashed. Virginia Leeland has known Jonah and his family most of her life and she is engaged to be married and wants to start her own wedding planning service. She wants one of the barns on Jonah's land as a setting for weddings and she asks whether he will agree to let her use the barn. When she marries she will be able to use a trust fund and this could help him purchase the horses that he wants. All is going well until she catches her fiancée in bed with her friend. Wedding cancelled but this means she can't access her trust. So she and Jonah come to an agreement to marry each other in name only and be partners so she could start her business and he can get his horses. It seems to be so simple but they didn't take into account emotions and their changing feelings for one another. So well written and I was drawn into their 'world'. Both are such nice people and they help and support each other both physically and emotionally. I was so wanting them to stay together and have their own HEA. A very easy read that kept me turning page after page as I needed to know what would happen with these two. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Most definitely recommended.

A Book and Series that is Pure Entertainment.
The Cowboy’s Contract Marriage - Grant Brothers Series, Book 2, by author Leslie North is a wonderful modern country boy vs city girl storyline. The subdued Jonah who grew up with Virginia until she escaped to the big city to live her dream life and become engaged to her dream man...that is until she caught him in position délicate.
So it appears the author wrote Virginia as opposite to Jonah in energy, in being extrovert vs introvert, in problem solving, etc. This whirlwind of a woman appears at Jonah’s barn doors with an outlandish proposal but she is very good at selling the idea (which he will revisit later in the book) and they are married and off to make both their dreams come true. Which, Jonah has problems accepting.
One point I’d like to make to the author in a tongue n’ cheek way...I did Google, “What to wear to a fake wedding” and some marvelous dresses did show up. A few I was tempted to purchase for my 19XX high school reunion next year. :)
Anyway, I loved everything about this storyline: well-developed, nicely paced - in fact once I started I read all the way thru as it’s not a loooong book. I loved the characters with Ian and Katie from Book one appearing a little bit in this one. So now after reading two books in this story I definitely am recommending this book and series for your reading enjoyment and pleasure.
I am leaving this review for your consideration. Peace.

Jonah and Virginia have known each other since they were children but have been more like acquaintances as adults. So he is surprised when she comes out to his ranch. She wants to buy the old barn they played in as kids to turn into a wedding venue with money that she will get when she gets married and she knows that Jonah wants to buy two horses for his breeding program.
When she breaks off her engagement after catching her fiance with his pants down, Virginia proposes that she and Jonah enter a marriage of convenience. Jonah agrees and after their courthouse marriage, Virginia moves in with Jonah.

It was fun to watch the relationship develop between Virginia and Jonah. Jonah was burnt by a previous business partner and has a hard time trusting that Virginia will do what is best for him. Virginia is frustrated that she cannot be as independent with her business as she wanted to be and has to ask Jonah for help. Plus they have a strong physical attraction, which ends in an unplanned pregnancy. These two do get to their happy ending but they have to do a lot of personal growth to get there.

This is the second book in a series and I enjoyed it as much as the first one. I am looking forward to reading the final one.

This book was great. I love my TEXAS and its cowboys. This book is about Virginia and Jonah; she is engaged to be married and knows that she will inherit money for her new wedding business, but ends up catching her fiancée cheating with one of his workers. Jonah on the other hand is doing okay but wants to expand his ranch with a couple of new studs, but needs the money for it. Virginia wants to buy a piece of his property to start her business, so this is something Jonah is considering until she lets him know that she is no longer getting the money because she has called off the wedding.

This story is too cute as Jonah was smitten with Virginia since she was five years old and remembers her always wanting to play wedding in the same barn that she wants to own. She proposes they get married, fake it for a while in order for both of them to gain the inherited money. He agrees and the attraction begins. Now both Jonah and Ian have found their girl and are growing their family, it is now Nate’s turn, which is their younger brother. I cannot wait to hear how someone ties him down as he is consider the wild child.

Yep nothing better than a determined cowboy to make his way in the world on his own and the story of him succeeding in business and pleasure. This is a great story that begins as a business deal between Jonah and Virginia. Jonah wants to be a horse breeder and is looking to buy two prized studs to further his business goals. Virginia wants to buy Jonah's old barn to host weddings etc in to further her business goals. This all seems well and good on paper however we have a couple hitches of course that just get the story going. You see, Virginia needs to get married to get the funds from her grandmother to buy the barn and she just caught her fiancee cheating on her. Dang it, now she needs to find a new fiancee, she wants the monies but not bad enough to marry the cheater. So, as a business arrangement so that everyone gets what they want - Jonah and Virginia agree that a marriage between the two of them as a business arrangement should work out just fine. But what happens when feelings get involved? Lines are crossed? Do Jonah and Virginia dissolve the marriage or make do they amend the arrangement?

The second book in the Grant Brothers series. This has Jonah having a meeting with his longtime friend Virginia. The two of them grew up together. Now finding out that she would like to buy/ rent the old barn on his property and use it for destination weddings, is a shock. Why would anyone want to get married in the old barn? After listening to her offer he agrees. Now when she comes back much later she is drinking much champagne and tells Jonah that the deal is off. Her fiancé ran off and so there for her inheritance from her grandmother she thought she was going to receive she is not. She has to be married and that does not look like it is happening. Jonah has already committed himself to that money. Being a horse breeder he saw this as an opportunity to grow his business. Everything is falling apart and he comes up with the idea that they should get married. After some thought, they are at the courthouse and are Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Grant. The problem will be can they stay married or even want to. This is a funny book at times but also one with feelings and emotions. A very good story with two strong lead characters. Virginia approaches Jonah about a possible money opportunity for them both. Virginia wants to use his old barn for the wedding she wants to plan and want to help him get the money he needs for his ranch. However in order to accomplish both she needs to be married in order to get her inheritance so she asks him to marry her. Jonah is wary at first but once he listens to her plan he can't help but agree with her and marries her. Sparks fly between them and pretty soon they are helping each other in their ventures. When they start mixing business with pleasure begins to worry Jonah because he isn't sure he wants a partner and thinks he is better off alone. When he mentions this to Virginia he doesn't know it but she has a secret that could change both of their worlds. Will Virginia give him another chance? Can Jonah see that he can have everything with Virginie in his life?

This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

The thing I love the most about Leslie North is I know I am going to have a fun, enjoyable listen. Her stories are not angsty, but have a story that makes us fall in love every time. Jonah is the second Grant brother we are meeting, and he has a barn that Virginia would like to buy and use for weddings. When her financing falls through, she convinces him to marry her and our fun begins. This unlikely couple has so many situations that made me smile! From zombie photo booths to talking up horse studding, Jonah and Virginia couldn't help but fall for each other. Or was it just attraction? Jonah is a great character. He proves to be much more in tune with Virginia's business than anticipated but he is stubborn! Virginia is outgoing and not afraid to take a chance. It's no wonder the two are butting heads and falling in love! We even get a cameo from Ian and Katie from the first book of the series. I loved this quick escape from reality and you will too!

Mathias Strongbow is continues his narration of the series. He has a good twangy voice for cowboys, and a pace that is easy to keep up with. I enjoyed his performance.

Jonah wants to grow his horse ranch by buying two studs but can’t afford them. Virginia wants to start a business for wedding events but she needs money. The money she would have gotten when she married was now in jeopardy. Her grandmother had left her the money but she had to be married to get it. She had been engaged and then broke it off so now she had no access to the money again. Unless she can make a bargain with Jonah. If he will marry her so she can inherit the money, she will give him the money he needs to buy his horses. She can use his old barn to fix up for a wedding venue, but finds she needs Jonah’s help. Despite the agreement that they were going to work their businesses separately, they find they are working together. But Jonah had been burned by a prior partner and resents when Virginia starts to offer advice. So Virginia and Jonah decide to honor their agreement. But can they it, especially when Virginia tells Jonah she is pregnant with their child.

Achieving their dreams!
by sewsummore
Virginia was engaged to be married and planning her future business as a Wedding Planner. This all came to an abrupt end when she catches her fiance cheating on her. Not only had she lost her love she had lost her future business unless she could find a new groom to marry, as the funds to do so would only be available after her marriage. Jonah was a longer, no longer prepared to trust others to do the right thing, When the cash he was expecting to obtain by hiring out his heritage barn to Virginia could no longer eventuate, his dreams of expansion fell through as well. Unless they married each other and that was what they did. It was a marriage of convenience for both of them but it turned out to be so much more. I loved this story for the romance and dedication that the two main characters displayed. They helped each other to achieve their dreams and in doing so gained not only a business partner but also a life partner and children.

Jonah needs money badly to buy studs for his ranch, he just had no idea where he will get it.
Virginia has plans she is going to build a Wedding business in Jonah'old barn. They made a deal it will give him money to buy the studs, only problem is to get her money she had to be married a day she just caught her fiance with his secretary. Now she would not marry him if he was the last man on earth.
So she makes an offer Jonah can't refuse, marry her to get the money and then they can get a divorce, it will be in name only, a business deal.
Well read and see how this all works out, business all the time or could their be a bit of pleasure in there?
Laugh along with them as they turn an old barn into a first class wedding venue .

I always know that I'm going to love a book by Leslie North. Every one is well written, the characters are believable, and I want to fall in love with the leading man. I read the first book in this series, and it was good to see Ian & Katie show up in this book (I loved their story, and can't wait for Nate's book!).

Virginia's fiance cheats on her, and now he's the ex-fiance. Without a marriage, she can't access the inheritance that she needs to open her wedding business. She convinces her childhood friend, Jonah, to fake-marry her, and she'll help him get the horses he needs for his ranch. They spend so much time together that they begin to have very real feelings for each other, and the walls around this pretend marriage begin to fall down.

4.5 stars. Virginia’s fiancé cheated but she needs to be married to get her grandmother’s inheritance to start a wedding planner business. Horse trainer Jonah has his eyes on two studs to expand his business and reputation but doesn’t have the money to buy them. Well, her brainstorm is for them to have a fake marriage so she can get her money to split with him. They have known each other since they were young kids, so he goes along with this madcap plan. They don’t realize how they complement each other when doing business. Somewhere along the line, very real deep feelings for each other creep into their hearts. This terrifies them and a rift happens. How do they get past the terror to become a truly married couple. Nicely written and enjoyable read.

Grant brothers series book 2. Jonah needs money to buy two beautiful studs for his breeder stock. Virginia needs to get marriage to inherit the money her grandmother left her to buy Jonah's old barn to have wedding parties. Virginia talks Jonah into a marriage in name only with the help of some champagne.Virginia has a soft heart and gives Jonah most of the money and tries to do the repairs on the old barn herself. When Jonah finds out he starts doing the work with her. The thing is that Jonah has been taken to the cleaners before by a partner. It is hard for him to trust. Ian and Katie are brought into this book. It was good to hear how they are doing. It is good to hear again about the characters from previous books. As with all Ms. North books this one has some steamy sex and HEA.

A bit short but entertaining and enjoyable. This story is about Virginia and Jonah;. Virginia catches her fiancé with his coworkers. Virginia was going to be married, and inherit money for her new wedding business, but now that I’d one and done. Jonah wants expand his ranch with a couple of new studs, but needs the money for it. Virginia made an offer on a piece of his property to start her business, but she has to tell him the deal won’t work because she won’t be inheriting the money she counted on because she has called off the wedding. It turns out that Jonah has had a crush on Virginia since she was five years old. They think on her circumstances and Virginia proposes they get fake married, in order for both of them to gain her inheritance. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Book 2 of the Grant Brothers belongs to Jonah Grant and VIrginia Leeland.
Jonah is a struggling horse breeder . He’s found two studs that would help him move his business forward. But he doesn’t have the money, and is not sure he’ll ever get the funds.
Virginia, a childhood friend, was ready to get married and with an inheritance, proposed to Jonah that if he sold her the barn in his land so she could start her wedding event business, he would then have the money for the studs.
But life throws them a curveball when the wedding is called off. That is , until they decide a marriage of convenience would be the answer to all their problems.
It was a predictable sweet story . One to be enjoyed in an afternoon of leisure.

Jonah Grant is a horse breeder with dreams of starting his business but doesn’t have the funds, or any means of getting them until an old friend shows up with a proposition for him.

Virginia Leeland wants to build something of her own. Her grandmother has bequeathed funds to her which will become available upon her marriage. But when Virginia catches her fiancé cheating on her the marriage plans end as well as the funds and her business plans.

But Virginia comes up with the plan of her and Jonah getting married "in name only" thereby saving them both from giving up on their business dreams. But along the way the agreement of "in name only" takes on a whole new meaning when passion gets involved. An unexpected surprise happens that can either make it a real marriage or they can decide to go their separate ways.

Virginia has a business proposal for Jonah, he gets the money to buy his stud horses and to expand his business and she gets his old barn to start her wedding business. She can`t get the money until she`s married but thats`s not a problem since she`s already engaged to be married. That is until she catches her fiance with another woman. She proposes a marriage of convenience and he runs his business and she runs hers. They don`t count on their attraction to each other and falling in love. But Jonah doesn`t want to share his life with anyone else until it`s too late. Great story and can`t wait for more.
