What happens when you suddenly get everything you ever wanted?
First, you don’t believe it’s real.
Then you want more…
Let’s be honest, gay nerds from small towns in North Carolina don’t get to date the hot, popular quarterback. It’s just one of those impregnable laws of nature. Even if he was my best friend growing up. Even if it turns out by some miracle that he’s gay too. So, forgive me if I was a bit skeptical when Chance Wyrick asked me to be his boyfriend. That sort of thing just doesn’t happen in real life.
Sure, he has only shared his secret with me. And yeah, we’ve been fooling around for a few weeks. But again, let’s be honest, who else does he have to fool around with? He has to keep his secret. I’m safe. I’m just the first guy he’s ever fooled around with.
I’ve been in love with him for almost as long as I can remember. I’ve fantasized about what it would be like to be his boyfriend. So, when he asked, of course I said yes. It doesn’t matter that he’s not out. It doesn’t matter that it has to be secret. It doesn’t matter that I have to pretend. All that matters is that he asked me to be his boyfriend and that I said yes.
That’s what I was thinking the day Chance Wyrick asked me to be his boyfriend. Everything was fine until it wasn’t. Everything was fine until I wanted more …
Catching Chance is the second book in the Gilcrest University Guys series. It’s a full-length, “friends to lovers” romance novel. It has “coming out” and “first-time gay” themes, is stocked full of STEAM, heartache, and laughter, and it has a guaranteed happily ever after ending. The series will follow the love stories of four college friends. Catching Chance is the second of two books that concludes Andy and Chance’s love story. It can be read as a standalone, but if you want to follow Andy and Chance’s journey from the beginning, start with Book One, Chasing Chance. Look for book three, Resisting Rein (Cam’s story), to come out early this summer!

Oh, thank God!

This story had serious potential to turn into a "fucking with an established couple's HEA" tale, but it blessedly didn't go there at all. Color me thrilled.

I adored both Andy and Chance in the first book, which continued in this second installment, but I also have to give shout-outs to Andy's BFF, Cameron, and Chance's BFF, Travis.

They were both stellar supporting characters, as they playfully snarked and flirted their way through this follow-up story.
[I]f you fuck this up again, I will kick your ass. Not even your bodyguard will be able to save you … Even if he does look like a fucking Greek god.” Cam’s eyes grazed up and down Travis’s body.

Travis laughed and leaned down towards Cam. “If he fucks this up again, I’ll help you kick his ass, myself.”

“Stop flirting with me. I don’t date football players,”
Cam quipped.

Upon completion of book 2, I've got to admit that I don't really see why this story was split into two halves. With a combined page count of 427 pages, I felt as though the ground covered could've pretty easily been shortened down by 100 or so pages, with the same overall impact and enjoyment. It never really 'felt' too long, though, even if the page count might disagree.

In regards to angst, the author kept that in check, with only one knee-jerk gay panic moment, which was thankfully resolved quickly, avoiding a clichéd Long Separation.

Chance's character growth was significant and faster than I'd thought it would be, so yay for 22 y.o.'s capable of acting like adults. Mostly.

For the steam, Ms. Parker didn't bury the reader in pene, but there were sufficient bedroom scenes that I suspect most readers looking for a little somethin'-somethin' will be happy to see the boys flip flop their way to their happily ever after.

Now, for the big "OMG, REALLY???" elephant in the room...

The over-use of sappily-sweet pet names in books drives me absolutely ape shit, so the *77* instances of Chance calling Andy "monkey", sweet baby Jesus, save me. I was ready to kill a bitch, because it pulled me out of the story like you would not even believe.

I'd rate this second book at around 4.25 stars and highly recommend it -- especially if you know how to use Calibre to mass-change the word "monkey" to something less teeth-grindingly distracting.

As of now, I'm anxiously awaiting Cameron's story, and hope that books for Ben and Jordy are also in the cards. : )

The best part of these books was Cam. Seriously, I spent the majority of the time reading these two books, rolling my eyes.

Chance spent 70% of the book feeling guilty about his shitty behaviour and being completely aware that his attitude and his actions towards Andy were wrong. If it weren’t for Travis and Cam, I don’t know if he would have actually done something to make it up to Andy and stop being stupid. On his part, Andy first gave the impression of having strong convictions and not letting anyone walk over him, just to have Chance give him lame apology after lame apology, and Andy immediately saying that it was all ok and Chance didn’t have to apologize 😔.

Also, the dad’s reveal was dumb and 100% anticlimactic.

Great continuation to Chasing Chance. A friends-to-lovers MM college romance. It’s sweet, funny, and super sexy. I loved Chance’s coming out process and the love and support he received.

Catching Chance is the second book in M.E. Parker's Gilcrest University Guys series. As far as I've understood it, it's also the last book with Chance and Andy in the lead. After reading the first book I was hooked!! So I was both excited and thankful to receive this one so fast, because I just needed to see if my new favourite gay couple got their happy-ever-after. And I'm happy to say that they did!! Both Chance and Andy are swoon worthy and sweet men, with hearts of gold. On a first glance it could look like everything is just smooth sailing for them. But as the theme is "coming out" they do face their fair share of struggles, with one being comfortably out and the other is anxious to even think about going out together.

I really love the characters Ms. Parker has created. Not just the leads, but also their awesome friends. Most of Andy's friends are treated as more than secondary characters, on a deeper inspection Cam and Ben are vital to Chance & Andy's happiness. It's great to see how Parker includes certain stereotypes while rejecting others. It made me laugh when Andy reconnects with 2 girls he went to school with, and they hang on his every word. The typical GBF (Gay Best Friend), and it's awesome!! I was a bit nervous about how the author was going to handle the root of Chance's fear of coming out. Luckily, I had nothing to worry about!! She dealt with it in a great way, and a way that rang true.

So if you want a sweet coming out M/M gay romance book, then this is definitely worth picking up!!

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Catching Chance follows the story of Andy and Chance, which began in Chasing Chance and is best read in order, as it is the continuation of their story. It is a second-chance romance of sorts, or more of a second-chance at friendship with a romantic relationship then added on for the men. Andy and Chance just got together in a relationship at the end of book one after repairing their friendship, and this book deepens their bond. This book also takes us through them navigating a relationship in public when Chance is not out.

There is no doubt that the men want to be together as they explore intimacy together and Chance is brought into the group of Andy’s friends and lets a few people know about their relationship. His biggest fear is that his father will find out, but their relationship has been strained for years, and Chance has a lot to work through. The bottom line for Chance is that he is scared and he then makes bad decisions that hurt Andy. Andy is willing to compromise a lot for Chance, but he has his limits, and Andy, as well as his friends, stand up for him.

The author notes that “Catching Chance” could be read as a standalone, but personally I would recommend reading Chasing Chance first to get the background of Chance and Andy’s romance. While the first book ends with Chance and Andy realizing they love one another, “Catching Chance” is all about Chance coming to terms with coming out and believe me, it’s a rocky road.

Chance loves Andy, and truly wants to be with him, and their romance and growing relationship feels real and honest. I especially like the community that takes Chance to their heart – Andy’s friends Cam, Jordy and Ben as well as Chance’s team mate Travis and his girlfriend – and I love their coming out party for Chance.

Their relationship seems solid … except when they venture out into the real world. The path to really being together is a long (very long) and agonizing one for Chance. Chance wants to come out, but when confronted with friends and/or football fans, Chance is more than willing to leap back into that closet and pretend that Andy is just a friend. At almost 50% longer than the first book (175 pages vs. 252), the pace of this story is slow, too slow in my opinion. We get Andy and Chance’s POV in alternating chapters, often with the POV changing mid-scene which draws out the scene even longer. And maybe it is just me, but at times it is difficult to figure out exactly who’s POV we are getting.

I continue to find these characters interesting, and while it takes a long time, I like where Chance and Andy find themselves at the end of “Catching Chance.” Also I like the excerpt at the end of the book giving us the beginning of Cam’s story. However, the pacing of “Catching Chance” was a HUGE miss for me. 3.5 stars.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

ADORABLE!!! I loved this series sooo much. Freaking cute. I want more. One of the scenes had me cursing at Chance, I hated him for most of that chapter, but he redeemed himself. Seriously, what was up the the “single tear” cries?? I tried it didn’t happen. I cried, cried, an ugly cry even. Hahaha.

The first book laid the foundation and ended abruptly. Catching Chance built on that foundation and was a good read. Andy and Chance were childhood friends and now learn to navigate the water as lovers.

Andy was patient with Chance and told him he could come out at his own pace. However it was friends Cam and Travis who enlightened him. Chance realized his fears of living his truth stemmed from his feelings about his father. He not only came out but did so in a big way.

Andy and a Chance had some stumbles but with a supportive group of friends it worked out with minor angst. Did it end a bit Pollyanna Sunshine? Yes. I doubt in real life a star athlete’s coming out would have been met so much love and acceptance. Too bad real life can’t be like this.

I loved Cam and want to read his book next.

This one was better than the first one. It's the fairytale where everything irons itslef out and we get the picture perfect outcome we secrectly wish all coming out stories had. It solidifies the relationship and wraps up all the doom and gloom hanging over Chance's head. Andy and Chance are so in love and want to live happily ever after and I believe this book does just that for them.

I am so glad I decided to read this! I didn't like Chance much at the starting but by the time he posted that cute picture of him and Andy on Instagram and then later asked him to marry him in front of a stadium full of fans I loved him along with Andy. Although I did hate him during that bar scene. I especially hated how easily Andy forgave him.

Chance and Andy are coming to terms with Chance's big ILY. Will Andy actually believe it? And if he does, will he be willing to stay a secret until (if) Chance decides to come out?

They've got a long road ahead of them, though, to make it to their happily ever after. There's the matter of how Chance's team will take his coming out, should it ever happen. And there's the biggest obstacle, and the whole reason Chance ghosted Andy way back when - Chance's bigoted, pastor father.

I liked Catching Chance a lot more than I liked Chasing Chance. It's more well-rounded, and Chance and Andy actually make a great couple. They're sexy together and you can feel their love through your Kindle. I admit to shedding a tear or two at the end, too, at how everything went down. It was sweet and lovely to see them together and so in love. Now I'm anxiously awaiting Cameron's story (Resisting Rein).

I am so conflicted about how I feel about his book, but all I know is that it made me FEEL a lot and I found myself smiling and not hating the over abundance of I love yous when that declaration was finally made and I didn't hate the nickname "Monkey". I guess at the end of the day I am completely going to throw out everything and just rely on the fact that this book made me happy for most of it (besides those moments that I wanted to strangle Chance, but then completely understood?).

This is a continuation of Chance and Andy after they have become boyfriends. Chance is still not out, but working on it and Andy is dutifully being a supportive boyfriend while dealing with Chance not being out. It was heartbreaking to know that Chance was struggling so much and it pissed me off the way he treated Andy sometimes, but as much as it hurt, I couldn't help but not be too angry because Andy went into this relationship knowing that it was going to be tough and made it clear they would handle it together. I appreciated the journey Chance went on and I fell in love with Cam, Ben, and Jordy along the way.

There was a lot of heaviness in this, but it was broken up with a lot of sweetness and humor. There were moments that it was a bit too sweet, but again, I didn't hate it. For some reason this book just hit all the good buttons. I am absolutely and totally happy for Chance and Andy and am glad that their HEA was so sweet and pure. I have completely fallen in love with Cam, Jordy, and Ben and am looking forward to their stories.

I liked this one a lot better. Chance really struggles with coming out to his friends and family. Andy is very patient with him. There are a lot of situations that put Chance in positions he's nervous about. He knows what he wants and needs to do, but he's so stuck in his mind it's hard for him to move forward. But with each situation that occurs, Chance continues to move forward.

Cam and Travis are the best friends we all should have in our lives. We definitely get more of Cam in this book and it's really hard not to fall in love with him. Travis was hilarious and the banter between him and Cam was great. Ben and Jordy were pretty amazing as well!

I really did fall in love with both Andy and Chance in this book. I had tears a couple of times because my heart just broke for them individually and at different times. I'm really hoping we see more of them in Cam's duet.

Great conclusion to the Chance and Andy series. Believable dialog, good friends and feels. Family drama is addressed. All characters sound like they will be best friends for life so good vibes all around. 3.75 for keeping promises.

This series thus far is just incredible and if the sneak peak at the end of this book is anything to go on for book three in this series, well let’s just say Cam’s story is going to be explosive I do believe. And, I for one, cannot wait for it. As far as this book is concerned, I just loved Chance and Andy. With that said, this book in my opinion was a must. This book is a continuation of book one. And I cannot day enough just how incredible this story was. I loved Chance and Andy’s story.

Chance and Andysgarted their relationship in book one. But it was just getting started when book one ended. So with book two we got more in depth as their relationship grew. Of course Chance is still in the closet in this book and for Andy, that is not an easy thing because he is out and will not hide who he is for anyone. This in my opinion is very commendable to me.

Though it is not easy being in a relationship with someone who is in the closet, Andy loves Chance and would never force him to come out. Andy wants Chance to decide when and how he comes out on his own and not because of him. Chance is greatful to Andy for this because he has so many worries about coming out from football down to his father. But it is not easy for Chance either. He can see that he is hurting Andy by not being able to let others know they are together.

After an incident that Chance is none to proud of, he makes a decision that will change so many parts of his life forever. Andy is unsure if Chance is doing the right thing but he will stand by Chance no matter what. With not only Andy’s help but their right not group of friends Chance takes a leap of faith and with the leap being able to go either way for Chance, he is really just relieved that he has done it.

These two men have such an incredible love story. I love how these two are with one another and the way they have not forgotten things from when they were young that they promised one another. There love story is one to aspire too. I cannot wait for Cam’s story to come out. He is Andy’s best friend and he has a personality that grabs those around him and makes them love him whether you think you will or not. I cannot wait!!!

This book is definitely one my recommended read list as well as book one. M. E. Parker has done such an incredible job on this series so far and I believe the next two books will be just as amazing as the first two and I cannot wait!!!

There are no other words than I loved it. While the first book that introduced you to Andy and Chance, leaving some subplots open and made you curious, this book ties everything up in a bow and gives you a wonderfully compelling story that I couldn't put down.

M.E. has created a world where the people are so vibrant and multi dimensional that you would love to know them in real life. Andy and Chance's relationship takes front and center and while these two men navigate being in a relationship together, and not an out relationship per say, they're thinking about their future careers and all while pleasing their parents, which seems hard to do for both men while keeping their relationship under wraps because Chance is a football star and well known at their college.

The way the story works out, especially the openness later in the book, made me smile and I couldn't stop. The love between the two men is evident, but then throw in their friends (I loved Cam and I am so thrilled he's getting his own book, I can't wait), the football team, and their relationship with the community around them, and the world M.E. created is so tangible and realistic, you want to live there, be friends with them, and be a part of their world.

I can't recommend both Gilcrest University Guys books enough. You will laugh, cry, and be immersed in a world you will fall in love with. Loved this book!!

The blurb says this is stand alone, but I wouldn’t really recommend skipping the first one. Even though there’s not a lot that you couldn’t catch up on, the MCs are already dating at the beginning of this one, and you would be missing out on a lot of the feels and development.

That being said, everything that the first one lacked (or had too much of--looking at you flashbacks) this one fixed. Oh love, this one was better. All the loose ends were wrapped up, their relationship hits some rough spots and they work through them. This was so sweet and wonderful. Chance did all the swoony things. Andy stood up for himself when he needed to, and I was proud of him. Then, the ending gave me all the “A Cinderella Story” feels.

If I have one negative about it, it’s that the blurb calls it steamy, but the sex is meh. They always come ridiculously quickly, but /shrug. It’s still a really good story.

I loved Cam in the first one, was having second thoughts in the beginning of this one, but he pulled it out. After reading the sneak peek at the next one, I NEED IT NOW!!!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy.

Such a fabulous conclusion to a great story.
In the first book I really liked Andy from the beginning of the story and I wasn’t prepared to but I really liked Chance from the start also. These characters are great on their own but when you put them together they really come into their own.
I love that there is a second book. I love that it delves deeper. Nothing is perfect life isn’t perfect. There are a lot of times that things in books are tied up with a neat little bow (don’t get me wrong I love those books too) but this was an amazing way to see these favorite characters of mine navigating the waters of a new relationship. They have some major obstacles to overcome and they learn you can’t just ignore things because they will tear you apart. I was happy at the end of the first book. So happy for Andy and Chance but if this book wasn’t written and people don’t read it they will be missing out. Chance and Andy don’t settle for a “happy ending” thanks to this book we get to see how they want a love that lasts and what they will do to keep that! If you haven’t read the first book “Chasing Chance” start there get comfortable and settle in for a great read!

Catching Chance is a fantastic sequel to Chasing Chance. I love this story. Now a couple, Chance and Andy still have a lot to deal with.

Chance is closeted, which bothers both men, yet the fear of coming out is huge. This is personally one of my favorite storylines, as I just adore closeted athletes dealing with coming out. The fear is real. And the strength required to come out is real. Always a good plotline, this one definitely succeeds as a worthwhile read.

The relationship between the men's moms is amazing. They're supportive, loving, and funny. The moments with them are wonderful, funny, and charming.

And of course I love Chance and Andy together. Their love is strong, beautiful, and built up over a lifetime together. I adore the depth of their friendship, and the strength of their love.

Catching Chance is a fantastic friends to lovers romance, with all the emotions throughout. This ME Parker gem is absolutely a must-read-in-one-sitting book for me. Hopefully we'll see more books in this world, as there's definitely a lot of potential for storylines.

This continues where the old one finished, Chase and Andy are still keeping things under wraps with Chase not being ready to come out still.
There's high pressure points in the story as things builds up to where it needs to shift one way or the other for the guys to have their happy ending.

And I loved it, until about 70%. While the story was sweet after the initial drama, it became too sweet and predictable. It was difficult to get through the last parts because it didn't give me much other than a few chuckles because of Cam. For me the story could have been one book since it could have been wrapped up half way through this one.

It really irks me that the puppy was six weeks old, that's just bad breeder to give a dog away before they are 12 weeks. So it ruined something too.
Since I liked the first book, it annoys me that the second was a let down.
Though if you like pure romance and all the cheese you can eat, you will most likely love this one.
