As the town of Fairy Falls hosts the paranormal world's annual Halloween celebrations, Blair finds herself playing host to the leaders of the region's most prestigious witch covens. Sharing her room with a grumpy elderly witch is bad enough, but when a valuable sceptre is stolen from Blair's house, Blair is tasked with finding the thief.
Blair attempts to track down the sceptre while juggling witch lessons with her stubborn familiar, an apprentice dealing with school bullies, and a plague of random hauntings all over town. Her long-lost family might be among the visiting spirits, but Blair has no time for ghost hunting. Bodies are turning up, apparent victims of the sceptre's magic, putting the entire magical community in danger.
Can Blair stop the thief's killing spree and return the sceptre to its owner before the town pays the price -- and she loses her last chance to speak with her family?
Elle Adams lives in the middle of England, where she spends most of her time reading an ever-growing mountain of books, planning her next adventure, or writing. Elle's books are humorous mysteries with a paranormal twist and tons of magical mayhem.
She also writes urban and contemporary fantasy novels as Emma L. Adams.
A good read. Okay some parts of the plot were obvious whilst others weren't. Although it was a good read it just felt a bit of an let down at the end. A lot of action, a lot of fuss and a murder but the end result just seemed lacklustre. Not sure what I expected but ....... The ceremony for the passing on of the High Witch title has meant that she and her friends are hosting the current High Witch and others. Ousted out of her bedroom, her flat turned upside down, a theft, a murder, a swarm of ghosts, bully tactics and one very obstinate and reluctant familiar. Who stole the sceptre? Who killed the women? Will they get answers before things get too much out of control?
As Samhain approaches Fairy Falls is to become the setting for the annual covens convention. The sceptre will choose the witch to hold its power and govern the covens.
The current Head Witch, Aveline, is as mean and cranky as they come. Lodging has been arranged for her and her daughter and their group in the two empty flats nextdoor to Blair and Alissa. Dissatisfied Aveline ousts Blair from her room, rearranges everything and generally treats everyone with contempt including her own daughter.
When the sceptre goes missing and the veil between life and death parts Blair is in a race against time to ensure that the sceptre is returned to it's rightful holder.
She's desperate to take the chance to summon her mother's spirit to find out why she was abandoned outside the paranormal world but will it give her peace of mind or merely raise more questions?
A very entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series
A very entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series with a great cast of characters and a very entertaining storyline. A young woman who grew up with adoptive parents and has not figured out where her life is taking her. Wake up one morning and gets an email about a job interview. She gets the job and moves to a small town. On arrival she finds out it is a supernatural town that only people with supernatural abilities can live in. She soon finds out she is half which and half fairy. Follow along as her and her new friends StumbleUpon murders mysteries and trouble. Somehow she always ends up involved in helping to solve the crimes. A fun and entertaining read. Check it out
This one feels more like a holding pattern, the only true revelations ere in the last chapter and some of what happens doesn't make sense, the who what where and why, it would have been good to learn more about the head witch and her responsibilities, Sorry this book is blah, maybe the next one will improve, i hope so or it will be the last of Blair's books that i read.
The seventh book in this series and the series is still going strong. There's a major ceremony where a sceptre chooses the woman who will be the head witch and the one person it chooses is not the person that anyone expected. You also have an academy, bullying, ghosts appearing, a murder, another dead person, a pixie and various thugs.
It all centers around who will wield the power of the sceptre. As usual interesting characters and events and something new and different.
Such a fun plot! Being saddled with a motley assortment of less-than-charming housemates, a sudden rash of thefts, a murder or two, and more unflattering info about both of her parents is enough to put a crimp in Blair's enjoyment of her first Samhain celebration. There are several unexpected developments (when WILL these powerful paranormals learn what is death?!) and I can't wait to see what's next for Blair.
This was a great read. Blair was in her element but things are not as they seem. Its Samhain and its time to pick a new head witch. So the little town is full of hopefuls including the current head witch and where are they staying? In Blairs house and all havoc breaks out when the mighty staff is stolen and someone ends up dead right in Blairs backyard, now its up to her to figure things out before Samhain or else. There is a lot more to it but you will have to read to find out.
It's almost Halloween and the head witch is in town. The sceptre needs to pick a new head witch and madam grey is putting her hat in the ring. And then the sceptre is stolen. With her house in upheaval, Blair isnt sure what to do. And when a coven leader is killed, everyone is frantic. Ghosts are popping up, wrecking havock. Without the sceptre, who knows what will happen.
Another wild ride for poor Blair and her friends. But a fun one!
With this series, a lot happens in each book and it’s so hard to put down once you start. Blair is involved in her first Samhain ceremony but visitors disrupt her life and then stolen magical items and murder just further complicate it! It was great, the difficult characters added humor, we see more romance and solve a mystery!
I always enjoy reading this series. There are several types of paranormals who live in the same city and its interesting to see how they interact. The mystery is good and its difficult to know who is guilty. It's fast moving but enjoyable and light hearted. Enjoy
Jumping back into this series after a while was a little jarring. However, I am happy to say I remembered almost everything from the first 6 books. This story was adventurous and I did not see the 2 twists that came up; I really thought I figured out who was the thief and/or murderer. Can’t wait to see what happens to Blair over the rest of the series.
More questions. I really enjoyed this story. I am glad that Blair is helping Rebecca. Those two make a great pair, like sisters. Can't wait for the next story. Hopefully we will start to get answers.
Best part? The characters develop; they aren’t stagnant. Maybe the books are a little formulaic but the character development is fun and that makes a big difference!
This book is impossible to put down! This reader loves books that captures one's imagination & keeps their attention on the story. If it is truly filled with mystery, it becomes impossible to stop reading! To all future readers enjoy.
Plot is simple, but a bit surprising. A few humorous or interesting side plots, some continue through series, some resolved after a book or two. Look forward to rest of series.
In this book we find out more about Blair's mother and why she left Blair in the normal world. But once again Blair is confronted by another murder which she must solve to get to the truth. Looking forward to the next book.
The author has woven great characters and a fascinating story in this series of cozy witch mysteries. I enjoyed her other series and wasn’t disappointed here.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
I love the Blair Wilkes series. Blair is a quirky young woman who is trying to learn how to be both a witch and a fairy in the paranormal world she has suddenly found herself in. Seeing the growth that Blair has made and the mysteries she's solves is fun! I can't wait for her next story.
