Adrenaline junkie Kyler Michaels lives for sports, cliff diving, and goofing off with his friends at the lake. Not much makes him nervous. But that changes when he's cast as an extra for a movie starring Hollywood's hottest actor Declan Price. It's not only because Declan is insanely hot and has starred in many of his favorite movies, but the actor has also starred in his every fantasy since he was fifteen.
Not that he has a snowballs chance in hell of his silly crush going anywhere, though. Declan is straight.

Declan Price. Award winning actor, heartthrob, and the biggest faker of them all. The man he showed the world was nothing more than an illusion. As an actor, he wore many faces, but the face he had trouble wearing was his own. Coming out would not only affect his career, but it'd also stir up memories of a past he'd rather forget.
However, the stage he built his life around starts to crumble when he sees the wide-eyed, freckled cutie on the set to his new movie, and he can't ignore the desire to have the man in his bed.

Late-night hookups in Declan's hotel room soon turns into something neither man expected. Love is like a roller coaster: once it starts, there's no stopping it. And Kyler and Declan are about to go on a ride they'll never forget.

*Declan is the first book in the Love in Addersfield series. You'll find scorching hot scenes, lots of pizza, snark, laughs, a twink best friend, and a low-angst romance. Trigger warning for brief mention of past emotional abuse. Intended for adults 18 and older.*

Oh, man... This one was a no. No, no no. Nope.

When I review books, I review the actual book, never the author (unless it is praise). But I'm going to criticize this author today because this needs to be called out. The way this author treated women in this book was ridiculous and irresponsible. The women were sex-crazed and all had particular eyes on our gay Mc's. Dude, that's a trope I hope I never have to see again. And the way the male characters treated women in this book? Terrible. Other than Declan's movie star friend, Jennifer, the women in this book are treated like garbage.

But I'll let you make your own decision after reading a few quotes from the book.

The naked girl in my bed ruffled the sheets as she turned over and found a more comfortable position. I didn't remember her name. Maybe she'd never told it to me. She'd been nothing more than a warm body to sink into for a while. One that was already forgotten.

--------

The other news anchor was a woman named Beth. She always wore low-cut shirts and seemed to flirt with the camera no matter what kind of news story she was covering. Royal told us that even after he'd told her he wasn't interested, she still hadn't backed off. She had a boyfriend now, but that didn't stop her from the occasional brush of her hand on Royal’s or the propositions in the dressing room.

--------

“That hussy should be fired,” Brysen said. “She’s not even good.”

“Yeah, but Royal said she’s banging the director,” I pointed out. “So, it doesn't matter.”

--------

“Have you seen him yet?” the blonde asked the girl next to her.

The other one squealed. “Yes! I mean, I didn't get to, like, say anything to him. But I saw him through the window on my way to the trailer.”

“That man is so damn fine,” Blondie said before biting down on her lip. “Oh, the things I'd do to him.”

“You know, I heard he banged a few of his extras from A Spartan Tale,” the other girl stated. “Maybe we have a chance.”

--------

A video then played of Heather’s interview with them. Women of all ages gushed about Declan and how they couldn't wait to catch a glimpse of him. Some talked about his previous movie roles and how much they loved the films, and others could only talk about how hot he was.

--------

“Isn't he dating that Jennifer what’s-her-name?” Blondie asked with a scoff.

“Just rumors. But even if he is, we're hotter than her.”

--------

When I'd accidentally got a bit too excited one day after shooting a scene where I wrestled with another Spartan, I'd played it off that I was turned on by one of the half-naked helot girls walking around set. I was sure to fuck her in my trailer with the windows open, banging her so hard that the thing rocked a little…and I'd had to picture that guy the entire time.

--------

I got the sense they were checking me out as I led them to the aisle. One, because they kept giggling. And two, when I turned around, the shyer one’s face was beet red.

“Uh, well, this is it,” I said. “If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.”

“We will,” the confident girl responded, not taking her eyes off me.

Okaaaay. Not creepy at all.

I walked back to the counter and pretended to check something on the computer, just so I wouldn't be awkwardly standing there, seemingly not busy and available to chat. The girls found a book and came over to pay. The flirty one kept smiling at me as I handed them back the book along with the receipt.

--------

“What time do you get off?” she asked, leaning forward.

“Four,” I answered.

“Want to meet up?” She pressed her boobs to the counter, flaunting them. “We can grab a bite to eat and go back to my place.”

“I'm gay,” I blurted out.

Her cheeks reddened and she snatched the book from the counter before turning and walking away.

The other girl grinned at me, clearly fascinated by something, and then I saw her Yuri on Ice bag.

Ah, that explains it.

I nodded to her, and she giggled before rushing off to catch up with her friend.

--------

“Is Beth still thirsting after you?” I asked.

A crease formed in the middle of his forehead. “Yeah. She makes me dread going to work, Kye. How many times do I have to tell her I'm not fuckin’ interested, you know? And I feel like I can't even tell anyone but you and B about it.”

--------

“Good morning!” I said from behind the counter as two girls walked in.

One of them shyly waved as the other one ignored me. I was used to that. But then when the one who'd initially ignored me looked my way, she perked up.

“Hey,” she said, approaching the counter.

Ah, so now that she knows I'm hot, she suddenly wants to talk.

--------

“Some suspect that the alleged couple’s having issues,” Beth added. Her low-cut blouse showed her perky tits and she kept angling them toward the camera. “Heartache in Addersfield, maybe?”

--------

“You're right,” I said, watching the water ripple in the pool. “I think I'm going to talk to someone. Like a therapist or whatever. Someone I can talk to about all my fucked up thoughts. The bitch that made me this way is gone, but she still controls me.”

--------

“Coffee’s on the house today,” she said with a bright smile. Then, she leaned forward. “You were also seen with him at the airport a few months ago. I saw it in my favorite gossip magazine. Is Declan as hot in person as he is on TV?”

Yeah…there was no getting away from him.

“Thanks for the latte.” I grabbed it and turned away from the counter. I was in no mood to answer her.

--------

“Kyler! Come to the bluff with me.” A girl named Dana grabbed my wrist and started dragging me up the hill.

Since I was the adrenaline junkie of the group, people sought me out to do things with them, especially the girls—and sometimes guys—who were scared to do something.

When we reached the top, Dana released my wrist and jumped in place before making a small squealing sound.

“Ah! This is higher than I thought,” she said. Her long black hair brushed the top of her ass, even while in a ponytail. I doubted she'd ever had her hair cut. She wore a silver cross around her neck, and her swimming suit was more modest compared to the other girls.

“You're way too nice, Kye,” Brysen said, lying in the grass with big sunglasses on that made him look like a mutant bug. “That girl has no idea you like dick. She totally wants some of you.”

--------

This portrayal of women as airheads, bimbos, ditzy, unable to control attraction to our Mc's (and more) just isn't necessary and pulled me right out of the story. I hate-read most of this book because I wanted to review it (I don't rate or review DNF) but I did read the whole book.

What do YOU think? Am I over reacting? I certainly don't think so, but I'd be interested in your opinion.

Turning the women in your book into sniveling, sex crazyed bimbos isn't a good look on anyone.

1 star, not recommended.

I should really learn to read blurbs more carefully. I saw a review of this where the person described this book was adorably cute and I just one-clicked. My bad!

This book has two major plot points which I hate. One is that one of these guys is a closet case and refuses to come out because he’s famous. The second is a long separation where the closet case needs to get his life in order before he can finally start a real relationship. Ugh, I so hate these two things.

So while this book had its decent points, it still ended up frustrating the heck out of me.

What I liked:
- Kyler was pretty cute. I loved how clumsy he was on the film set, and how shy he became when he was with Declan.
- I loved Kyler’s friends. Especially Brysen. I so want to read his book.
- The romance was sweet (when they were not separated that is).

What I disliked:
- Declan. I just didn’t like him. I wanted him to grow some balls.
- The whole famous movie star thing (if I’d read the blurb I would have known this, so I have only myself to blame).
- The separation.

So if you can do the closet and the separation thing this book is not bad.

I’m going to pay better attention to the blurb next time.

I've only read Axios: A Spartan Tale by this author and loved it!
When I saw this one I jumped head first and even if the beginning seemed OK, it just didn't end in my favorite shelf. It wasn't really bad, but it wasn't great either. Maybe I had too high expectations? I don't know. Maybe it was Declan who pissed me off real bad. And I didn't hate him for not wanting to come out, it was the way he kept refusing to admit what he really felt for Kyler. Denial at its best!

And what I hated with a passion would be their separation... It just didn't sit well with me. Even if Kyler was ready to forgive him, I wasn't!

We get a nice ending and overall it was a sweet and low on angst story. Maybe it's just me here who didn't enjoy it. It was hot though, but that's just it.

A lot of things annoyed me in this book but the only thing I wanna point out is that people don't use twitter to 'share their day to day lives' anymore. And that too when it's checking in or sharing pics??? That is so 2012 and it's mostly just instagram now (and maybe facebook for some, but I don’t trust those people). It was weird reading this for a novel published in 2019.

Rest, a lot of it was just tropedom done okay. So passable!

Fluffy romance between a traumatized closeted actor and a sweet writer.

I’m so torn on my rating. I wanted to give it 2 stars because I’m disappointed in this author, but gave it 3 stars because I feel like I have really high expectations for her. Her books are so good and usually have a darker element to them that I love and found missing here. I’m going to try not to be too hard on this book, but it wasn’t what I wanted or expected from this author.

There’s a lot of internalized homophobia from one of the MCs. A lot. The trauma that caused it was hard to read and made me sad, but somehow the internal dialogues and reasonings for his choices didn’t translate well. I didn’t like this character. You’re not supposed to like him, but he had very few redeeming qualities and never progressed. He was fixed after 2 months of therapy guys! And he was so comfortable being 100% open and even comforting the other MC in an interview. It rang false.

Beyond the dislike of one of the MCs, the writing wasn’t up to par. The overuse of calling a side character a “twink” (“twinky body” 🧐) and constantly calling the prostate the “sweet spot” made me question whether this was the same writer who has absolutely captivated me in the past. It also really bothered me how the women were characterized in this book. It wasn’t at all what I expected and was somewhat offensive. I get the fangirling and hyper sexual behavior for the movie star MC, but the scene in the bookstore with the other MC was just gratuitous and weird.

Don’t even get me started on the separation…

Well, I think I just convinced myself to give this 2 stars after all. I tried not to be too hard, but I really couldn’t come up with anything I loved to mention about this story.

TW: homophobia, internalized homophobia, parents kicking a teenager out, physical abuse in a relationship (not on page), physical abuse and emotional abuse from a guardian in the foster care system

This was a fun, smoking hot read. I’ve been missing out on Osborn’s books. I think I assumed they were all heavy on the angst. But this was light, just mild angst mostly from inner demons.
The setup for the series is great, and I loved the dynamic between Kyler and his friends. Some very interesting well done side characters.
Kyler and Declan were explosive together, and their romance was super sweet. They were so adorably awkward with each other at the meet cute, and it just went up from there.
I’m really looking forward to more in this series, and especially from Kyler’s friends. I’m also going to go check out more of Osborn’s books.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy.

This was such a cute, sexy and fun MM romance! It's about Declan Price, a famous actor coming to Addersfield to film for his upcoming movie and small town guy Kyler! They meet on set where Kyler is an extra in Declan's movie. They agree to one night because Declan isn't out publicly but it turns into much more than that...*wink*

I loved both main characters but I gotta say I have thing for Kyler and his friends. I absolutely adored the scenes of Royal, Kyler and Brysen together. Brysen especially has me suuuuper excited and I canna wait for his book!!! He's so flamboyant and crazy and I just know his book is gonna be awesome!

All in all, a great new series to keep on your radar if you like MM romance! This book is perfect for you if you're looking for a feel good romance with a little bit of angst and a whole lotta feels!

This was another hit for me, I've really been enjoying everything Jaclyn Osborn has released recently and she's fast becoming one of my favs!

When last dictates present

This book is a true representation of that. But in the end you’ll find you’re the only one allowing yourself to be back.

As expected, I loved this book and have loved everyone one of Jaclyn’s books I’ve read. She’s a truly, gifted author.

I liked this book, I know, crazy talk right ? LOL I felt like their story was super sweet. I liked that their little break was more than a weekend, and that Declan actually put some work into himself so he could be with Kyler. I absolutely adored Brysen, I mean, I NEED his book asap because he had the most incredible personality, I truly hope she does him justice when his time comes. I know Royal is next, and he's such a cutie too. Would I recommend this book ? Totally, and like I said, crazy because this author is a bit of a crapshoot for me. I like some, I hate some LOL

This new series is off to a fabulous start. I loved meeting Kyler and Declan. These two lit up the sheets and it was scorching. This book really shines because of the realistic struggle Declan has with his sexuality. A fantastic read with more to come.

AWESOME READ!!!!!
I LOVE DECLAN TO PIECES 😍😍😍
When Kyler was chosen to participate on the movie with his crush mega star Declan, he never though that he would actually meet the guy... and never could he imagine that Declan was not so straight as everyone believed...
All Declan could do was try to not look like a stalker, while he did stalk Kyler social media... The more than gorgeous guy, captivated Declan from the first time he did coment on Declan twitter post... Those frekles got Declan entranced from the start...
Declan and Kyler and sooooo cute!!! Kyler is a goofball and this awesome book got me snorting and laughing out loud a lot of times!!! absolutelly loved it! Can't wait for the next book!!!!

I adored these two sweet men

I never shy away from the books about a man coming out. This was a beautiful story about Kyler, who idolizes actor Declan, while Declan is dealing with some major skeletons in his closet, which keep him deep inside said closet. Kyler and Declan meet on the set of Declan’s newest movie, a run of the mill romance that Declan gets no substance from. Kyler is an extra and has fantasized about Declan numerous times. So, when Declan seeks him out, he is visibly flustered, creating a disaster that sets in motion a relationship he never dreamed possible.

What starts out as a no strings mutual attraction, it is clear from the very beginning that both boys are becoming way too invested for this to end cleanly at the end of Declan’s ‘on location’ stay in Kyler’s town. It’s not just a matter of Declan manning up and stepping out of the closet, since he has deep rooted issues in his past that prevent him from living his best life. Can their feelings for each other surpass the Hollywood spotlight and Declan’s tragic past?

I loved these boys so much. They were so real. Kyler has amazing friends and I cannot wait to delve into Royal’s story next. But what I really cannot wait for is (hopefully at some point) Brysen’s story. I have a feeling I know what is going to happen, but I will wait patiently to see if I am correct. Brysen is my absolute favorite!!!!!

Declan is a famous movie star in town to film parts of a movie he starring in. Everyone falls at his feet thinking he can get them in the door. And then he meets Kyler.
Kyler wants nothing from him (everyone wants something from him... Right?), eventually someday he would like to write books and screenplays, but hasn't asked Declan to help in any way. He's the first to treat Declan "normal", special but not in a movie star way.

I feel so bad for Declan, he was in foster care and one home (the one he probably spent the most time in), he was severely abused. It's now coming through as an adult, which makes relationships with another person really, but especially a man nearly impossible.
Sadly, he was told being gay was a sin and it was literally beat into him. And then he meets Kyler and that changes everything.
At first it's a friends with benefit relationship and nothing more (how often does that work out? Right?). At some point it became more.

The entire book from start to finish held my attention. Perhaps because it was a man trying to find his way. To live his life proudly as a gay man.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Jaclyn Osborne's writing tends to be a hit with me. Even if I dont LOVE the book, I always at least like them. This fell in the like category for me.

Declan is famous and spends the majority of the book cursing himself in his head and being paranoid about people finding out he's gay. Ky is a challenge for him, as in he can't ignore him and stay away like he normally does.

The age old tale of fuck buddies becoming complicated by feelings occurs, but it still doesn't stop Declan's fears. Or the months long separation between the two before Declan pulls his head out of his ass and gets the help he needs.

One real bright spot in the story is Ky's bestie Brysen. His outrageous blurty personality is my cuppa and I can't wait until his book. (My hope is he ends up with a certain body guard hehe). He definitely provided some fun comedic relief from the agnst.

I’ll notice you, babe. And I’ll totally scream in the theater, ‘That’s my bestie!’ Then, I’ll throw popcorn in the air like confetti.”

Royal is the 3rd bestie in Ky's tripod of friends and it appears book 2 is about him. I def liked this start to the series to continue on. 3.75 stars

An awesome start in a completely new series!
Declan is book 1 in the new Love in Addersfield series by Jaclyn Osborn, and what a way to start!
I loved both characters: Declan is a world-famous Hollywood star, who is deep in the closet not only, and not mainly, due to his career, but also because of his internal struggles coming from his past that make it difficult for him to acknowledge who he is, even to himself.
Kyler is an outgoing, proud young gay man.
When they meet on the set where Kyler is cast as an extra, sparks fly, and they give in to their attraction swearing to themselves this will only be a fling since Declan cannot come out and will leave anyway (yeah, you can guess how well this works, right? NOT).
Anyway, the book is quite low in angst level, even though there are some tear-inducing moments that leave you quite stunned (never read anything from Jaclyn Osborn without crying, anyway...), but it's surely a page-turner and very easy to read. And it leaves you with all the fuzzy feelings...

Declan’s book was so good! I loved how Jaclyn takes the characters and puts them through the wringer yet they are so perfect for each other! I love how Kyler is a Declan fanboy it when they start spending time together, he treats Declan like a person and doesn’t let him pay for everything or use his connections for Kyler to make his dreams come true. I always dislike when the characters are in the closet and it ends up hurting the second MC but this book does it so well. The secondary cast is phenomenal and I adore Brysen!! He’s so funny!! I love how well it worked out for Declan and Kyler in the end!!

Learning to fly without fear

A good start to a series that promises to be another great read from the author.

Declan and Kyler could not have been more different with Declan a big Hollywood in-the-closet actor and Kyler an outgoing introvert at heart who is openly out. The struggles that kept Declan being his true self is much like what everyone else is experiencing, more so for those who are struggling with their sexuality in this unpredictable world. He needed someone like Kyler who loves with all his heart and self to realize that being true to who you are will give you the freedom to fly towards the sun without any fear of being burned.

Kyler was adorable and his clumsiness in the beginning made me laugh.

Declan and Kyler had explosive chemistry and their emotional connection was intense yet beautiful.

Loved this story, definitely buying it and look forward to reading Royal’s story next.

Brysen was definitely a handful but I eagerly look forward to reading his story: where hopefully he’ll find a worthy daddy to keep him in line.

Such a fantastic start to a new series. I loved Kyler and Declan. There was so much hotness in this book. There were a few moments when I wanted to hurl my kindle at a certain character or two, but I refrained. My favorite scene was the short, simple but, oh so sweet "lake scene" toward the end. It was just simply perfect. And, maybe that moment right after the lake as well. :P

I hope to hear Brysen's story soon. He's gonna be one of my gay best friends. I just know it!!!

4.5 Stars! I throughly enjoyed this book even though I shed a lot of tears... It was addictive to keep on reading & not stopping, haha. I loved Kyler right away I liked Declan, got mad, disliked him & finally loved him, lol. He was making me emotional & my heart hurt for him. My heart hurt for Kyler as well a time or two. I needed to hug those boys hard. They're a great couple!! Looking forward to reading Royal's book next!

Ayyyyy, this was cute, a little insta-lovey in the beginning, and I would have loved to see them connect with each other a little more instead of just being told they spent time together. That being said, I think the rest of the book did go on to show Kyler and Declan's emotional relationship. Apart from the two leads, I think Gideon, Royal, and Brysen were good supporting characters to their friends.

Declan by Jaclyn Osborn is the first book in The Love in Addersfield series. An actor in the closet finds love and the strength to come out with his truth. I really liked Declan and Kyler, they were sweet but with heat. The story was entertaining and worth the read.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Very Enjoyable

Declan and Kyler were likable, engaging characters. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Freckles and his Spartan, even when they were at odds the feelings were still there. Brysen and Royal were awesome friends and I can't wait read their books. All in all a very enjoyable read and great series starter.

Great start to a new series. Kyler and Declan is one of my favorite new couples. I loved how they were so different but you couldn't picture them with anyone else. Sweet and sexy connection, each of these guys working though something to come into their own. Also enjoyed all the side characters weaved in. Can't wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.
