Chock full of action. This is the first of of Brandvold's Sheriff Stillman novels I've read, and it's fairly far into the series, but now I want to get the first one. Very interesting and tough character. I only recently discovered Brandvold and he's got a lot of books I haven't read so it's nice to know I have some years of good reading ahead of me.

MAKE THEM SUFFER

Well howdy everyone, Sheriff Ben Stillman and Fay, Doc. Evans and Katherine, Judge Bann and his wife Prudence also Crystal whose married to Joey her childhood friend. What they don't know is that a man released from prison, who was imprisoned under false circumstances. Again greed, bribes and a bully who didn't care about others, just as long as he got what he wanted by any means necessary.
Angus Whateley and his sons were accused of murdering a very wealthy rancher who wanted the land that Angus Whateley owned and was doing well. So much so he was sending for his wife and the rest of his family..Because of what Judge Bannon and a shifty lawyer, the town banker were all inchoates against Angus Whateley, so the sons were hung and Angus was sentenced to prison for five years of hard labor. When he was released his kin from Missouri were there to accompanied him on his trail of REVENGE
for his two oldest sons.
Well we all kind of guess what the out come will be, but it didn't have to happen. This family lived on the margins of society like so many are still walking that edge of poverty or disenfranchise populations that settled the West minding their business trying to improve their lives.
GREED, GREED, BULLYING, BRIBES this what the rule and motto of the wealthy ranchers living in the West considered their laws.

Slow and a little disjointed. Ben seemed to spend a good deal of his time wandering around the wilderness looking for a horse. Or a bad guy. Or his wife. Leon his sidekick was out of the action as he spent the whole time lying in a brothel while a bunch of prostitutes fussed over his boo boo. The bad guy was a total lunatic. Understandable. However most families don't follow their lunatics off a cliff like lemmings. Suffice it to say they won't be missed by the gene pool. Which brings us to the end. A very dumb and convoluted end.

Creative Twist to Otherwise Traditional Western Themes!
Brandvold has a masterful way of breathing New life into familiar western themes of revenge, gunslicks, heavy drinkers and soiled doves gone pure in a most exciting and enjoyable manner. Lots of action, romance and excitement!

The use of words

The story line of this book was ok but a lot of the words used to describe things an average person would need a dictionary to get the meaning of the word. Some words didn't even make sense. I probably won't read any more of this author's books.

Fun series; you feel you know these people!

Ben still can't hit what he's shooting at from more than 20 feet, so why carry along a 15 shot Henry rifle?
You'll love these characters; especially Fay and Crystal.
Still confused as to why the author chooses to refer to sadistic, gang-raping, bloodthirsty murderers as "sons o' guns".
Regardless, this series is well worth your time.

I am definitely hooked on Mr. Brandvold and his Ben Stillman series which is one of the most impressive stories I have had the opportunity to follow. The stories are full of successful encounters, as well as endearing camaraderie among the good guys. This was a never ending descriptive, and somewhat different, series of unending gunfights that somehow ended in the interest of the good giys. Doc Evans does a magnificent job with his doctoring and gunfighting. A very descriptive series of ongoing excursions that left me in awe of the final outcome!

Definitely another five star masterpiece by Mr. Brandvold, which like good wine, gets better with each new adventure story of Ben Stillman and his entertaining entourage! These stories are very descriptively representative of truly entertaining revelations of old American western folklore adventures.
There are definitely entertaining episodes from beginning to end, as the Sheriff and his associates bond together in the most endearing camaraderie, as they continuously defy all odds in fulfilling their mission. Some of the most exciting storylines I have had the opportunity to follow. Too the author does an exceptionally outstanding job with his exceptionally descriptive character selections l
I, without hesitation, recommend this compassionate masterpiece to all readers, regardless of your reading pleasure. There are enough suspenseful episodes to appease anyone's desired expectations, and the sincerity of the characters will definitely pique pique your reading pleasure. Do not miss out on these outstanding stories, or the loss will certainly be yours!😤

Once again Sherif Ben Stillman finds himself facing a gang set on revenge. A judge wrongfully hangs two young men and the father, upon release from prison, is out to settle a score. Very good story but I disliked the ending where some acting was involved.
