Care Bears: A World Made of Love Love-A-Lot Bear is flying over his friend’s houses (Good Luck, Cheer, and Wish) with his heart-shaped balloon. Sometimes he calls out to them and tells them he loves them and they wave and blow him back kisses. Love-A-Lot is thinking how the world is made of love but then he spots a cloud that’s dark and stormy and has rain droplets coming from it. So, he flies down to find out what’s wrong.
He hears a sneeze but doesn’t see anything. A grumpy voice says that’s because he’s standing on him. He looks down and still doesn’t see him through the darkness. The voice says he’s standing on his cloud but he’s UNDER the cloud. So, Love-A-Lot asks can he come down and see him and the grumpy voice says he doesn’t care.
What he sees is an unhappy bear holding onto the cloud by one paw and dangling in the rain. He’s frowning. In alarm, he asks the bear if he’s cold and he says does it matter. They don’t call him Grumpy for nothing. Love-A-Lot says well they don’t call him Love-A-Lot for nothing and he cares. Grumpy suggests he fly away and find someone else to love a lot. So, he decides to go get his friends much to Grumpy’s disapproval.
He asks Cheer Bear to bring her rainbow, Wish Bear to bring his magical wishes, Good Luck Bear brings a 4 leaf clover for luck, Friendship Bear brings two smiling daisies, Funshine brings the sun to dry up all the rain, Tenderheart brings a single heart to show he cares, and Bedtime Bear brings the moon so he’ll have sweet dreams.
They arrive at his cloud and sing peaceful songs and lay out their gifts. Funshine clears up the rain and soon his cloud is white and sunny. Wish Bear places diamond-like stars under the cloud. Good Luck puts a 4 leaf clover in his pocket and Bedtime Bear sings him lullabies while the moon and Cheer bears rainbow beam on him. Love-A-Lot gives him hugs and kisses. They all look at him but he doesn’t smile or laugh. This upsets them because their special gifts don’t seem to be enough. Love-A-Lot asks if they did something wrong and Grumpy says of course they did. He was happy being grumpy and wet and now they’ve messed that up. Love-A-Lot then realizes Grumpy wasn’t really unhappy. He was happy being unhappy. The other bears don’t understand it but they accept it and they leave him to it (and take their gifts). Before he leave Love-A-Lot kisses Grumpy and then he apologizes. Grumpy says that’s ok. As he leaves, he thinks the world really is made of love.
My Thoughts: This little book had a very BIG message! I could REALLY relate to Grumpy. There have been times when people have thought that they thought they knew what would make me happy, but really, I wasn’t unhappy to begin with. It might have seemed strange to the other bears but that’s just who he was. I’ve also felt that a time or too with family. I may have things about me that aren’t like them or think how they think but that’s just who I am. Or as Grumpy said that’s just my nature.
Rating: liked this story because simply put sometimes like Love-A-Lot found out you can’t use your own standards to justify what happiness should be. And for some people it's not stars, rainbows, and sun-shines, and moon beams. Even though those all sound nice. You can't judge a person's happiness by what make's *you* happy.

A book and record book. I think this story worked well for what it is. Aimed at Care Bears fans, age 6-8, it tells how Love-A-Lot Bear first meets Grumpy Bear and enlists the help of the other Care Bears to use their powers to make him happy until he tells them he's happy being grumpy. The illustrations are all black and white, and if I were a kid, I'd have treated this like a coloring book.
