DEEP COVER

While posing as black market arms dealers in Istanbul, Dan Morgan and Peter Conley are propelled into a high-speed chase, on the run from dozens of police – only to be arrested. But it’s all part of a plan for the agents to get themselves thrown into a Turkish prison. Their mission: to extract a scientist who masterminded that nation’s new missile guidance system—advanced technology that Turkey’s president intends to trade with North Korea in exchange for nuclear secrets.

To prevent a Middle East war and deadly crisis on the Korean peninsula, Morgan and Conley must execute a finely crafted prison break to get the scientist out. When an enemy from Morgan’s past threatens the operation, the two agents face a desperate fight for their lives, with the fate of two hemispheres hanging in the balance.

Always a fan when Leo Maloney adds to his Dan Morgan series, I rushed to get my hands on this piece. While Dan has been through many a mission with Zeta Group, the addition of his daughter, Alex, to the team has added new intrigue and depth to the stories. Posing as illegal arms dealers, Dan Morgan and his partner find themselves in Turkey. They flee the authorities for as long as possible, but allow themselves to be captured and tossed into jail, which is all part of the plan. While incarcerated, Dan must locate a Turkish-American scientist whose nuclear know-how could be beneficial to the Turks, particularly if they extract it through torture. While Dan seeks to infiltrate the deepest parts of the prison, Alex and her own partner are working on an extraction plan to ensure they can all leave the country with ease. Working in tandem as best they can, Dan and Alex locate the scientist and work to trick the Turks, while not toppling the apple cart of international diplomacy. Dan has flashbacks to his last time in Turkey and one man who will surely remember his face. With time running out and plausible deniability, Dan must lead everyone out of the grasp of the Turkish authorities or face likely torture himself. A great novella to add to the series, which is as explosive as anything I have read lately. Recommended to those who like a fast-paced thriller to fill their time between larger reading projects, as well as the reader who enjoys Maloney and his Dan Morgan series.

It is nice to have an eclectic mix of authors and genres on which to pull when the reading bug bites. Leo Maloney has been able to keep me intrigued fro the start of the series, always finding new and exciting ways to keep the stories relevant and exciting in equal measure. Dan Morgan plays the central character in this story, though there is little backstory or development. Morgan uses his grit and determination, especially when placed in tough situations. Eager to work under the radar, Morgan serves Zeta Group effectively on its various missions. Other characters in the story prove helpful to push the story forward, particularly Alex Morgan, who is making a name for herself in the series. While the apple of her father’s eye, Alex is strong willed and seeks to carve out her own personality. Maloney does well to develop this series and keep readers interested, taking Zeta Group all over the world and placing the likes of Dan Morgan in unique situations. With short chapters and a narrative that never lose its momentum, this instalment of the series works well as readers await the next full-length piece that is sure to impress. Maloney keeps the plots fresh and the characters believable, allowing the reader to feel as though there is a dose of reality in what they are reading. I’ll be back for more and hope others will as well.

Kudos, Mr. Maloney, for a great addition to the series. This is sure to garner new fans whose curiosity has been piqued!

This was a homerun for Leo J. Maloney. What a great book Deep Cover is. It's like everything you want with Dan Morgan at his best. Thanks to #Netgalley and #KensingtonBooks for giving me the opportunity to read this exciting thriller with all kinds of problems and solutions in it. I really like and recommend this one.

Wow what a brilliant and action packed novella! It felt like I was watching a movie. Well written with action from the beginning to the end.

a Scientist from NASA, Dr. Erdem, has been thrown in jail in Turkey. He was working on nuclear power systems for satellites, and deep space probes and the Americans want him back. Our 2 hero's Morgan and Conley will have to think on their feet to achieve their objective and with some help from their colleagues this makes for some entertaining reading.

Thank you to Netgally and Kensington Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have read the first three books in the Dan Morgan series and I wasn't too impressed. There was so much unnecessary wording that they made the book a lot longer that was necessary. But, well then I thought maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. So, I decided to read the last book in this series called Deep Cover because it was a lot shorter. However, it followed the same track as the rest of these books, example: It used up two chapters, #15 & #16, to tell the reader what had happened 15 years prior the what they were doing now. These two chapters could have been left out of the book completely, and would not have been missed. I won't bother to read the other four books in this series because I know now that they will be written the very same way. I don't understand why a writer finds it necessary to write about what is on the damn walls of a room when they walk in, the reader don't need to know the color of the damn curtains on the windows, it just don't make any sense.

While I was reading the first three books, I kept hearing his boss always talking about how he is the best agent she has. So, I have to ask, if he is the best agent she has, why does he always end up putting himself in positions that a really good agent would never put himself in? He doesn't recon any rooms he enters, he just walks in, and as usual there is one of his enemies in there that gets the drop on him, then he has to figure out how to get out of that situation. I could understand this happening once or twice in a story, but with Dan Morgan it's a regular thing. As much as I hate to say it, Mr. Maloney's books don't interest me, so I'll pass on the rest of the Dan Morgan series.

Thank You,
Mr. Sunde

Recently finished "Deep Cover", the 8th installment in Leo Maloney's "Dan Morgan" series; and very similar to the prior books, this one was written with the skill and talent of a seasoned, and incredibly talented thriller writer. One of the things I believe that sets Maloney apart from others is his ability to develop his characters to the point where the reader truly knows and cares about each individual character. And its for this reason (among others) that I patiently wait every year for his next book, as I cannot wait to see what the cast will be up to next. His Protagonist duo in Dan Morgan & Peter Conley are second-to-none when it comes to badass-GoodGuys in the Thriller World. Their strengths and personalities play perfectly to one another, and when Maloney is in the zone, there's seemingly nothing that these two cannot achieve or overcome. I especially love the Team's sense of humor, which often times shines in situations in which you'd least expect humor of any kind. And Morgan's skills and traits of a leader, who inspires loyalty from all those around him, makes you love the guy even more. My only qualm with this book was that it was a pretty short read, especially when compared to some of the other books in the series; but, with that being said, another attribute of Maloney's writing that I believe helps set him apart, is his ability to not get lost in all the minutia that oftentimes bogs other writers down, and makes a book too wordy. Each and every one of his pages are crucial to the overall story, and when it comes to incredible story tellers/authors who know how to paint a picture, Leo J. is at the Top. Well Done Mr. Maloney. Can't wait for the next one!

Author Leo J. Maloney http://leojmaloney.com published the novella “Deep Cover” in 2020. Mr. Morgan has published more than a dozen novels. This is the eighth book in his Dan Morgan Thriller series.

I received an ARC of this book through https://www.netgalley.com in return for a fair and honest review.I categorize this book as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of violence. The primary characters are Black Ops agents Dan Morgan and Peter Conley.

Morgan and Conley are in Turkey to free a scientist from being held in prison. They are posing undercover as arms dealers. They have a deadline for their mission. They need to extract him before his missile guidance system knowledge can be traded. North Korea wants it in exchange for nuclear weapon secrets.

After a shootout with police and a high-speed chase, they find themselves held in the same prison. The plan is for their other team members to compromise the prison computer system. That should facilitate their escape. Of course, nothing ever goes by the plan.

I enjoyed the 2+ hours I spent reading this 114-page thriller. This is one of those thrillers that is fun to read. Just don’t think too much about the plot or reality. This is the fourth book by Maloney that I have read (Rogue Commander, Dark Territory, and War Shadows). The others were also in the Morgan series and have been consistently enjoyable. This one was a little shorter than previous books in the series. I like the chosen cover art. I rate this novella as a 3.8 (rounded up to a 4) out of 5.

Starting with book 8 is a chance that reader might not be able to catch up with the characters and their back ground. Leo Maloney writes a very easy political thriller for readers to follow. The story is a little to unbelievable at times as the story makes it way from countries all over the world.

The story doesn't stand out among so many different great political thrillers filling book stores.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of Leo J. Maloney Deep Cover.

Another masterpiece.

Again we are led into an undercover operation with Dan Morgan and his colleague Peter Conley who have undertaken the challenge of rescuing an American scientist from a Turkish jail.
They meet the challenge head on and after having to change their plans at the last minute, they still manage to escape with some help from other members of Zeta.
Great storyline written by a master storyteller.

Review of Deep Cover (A Dan Morgan Thriller)

Dan Morgan and his partner are on assignment in Turkey to rescue an American citizen who was arrested and charged as a spy. They have a problem because. Fifteen years earlier they were on a mission in Turkey and the warden was a soldier then. I couldn't put the book down I had to know what was going to happen.

Great Thriller! I couldn't believe how much story and how many twists and turns this book packs into the novella format. Besides taking readers into one of the new political prisons in Turkey, it includes a flashback to one of Dan Morgan's previous missions in Greece that provides a fascinating look at his early career. Highly recommended!

Compelling and Full of Surprises

My husband has been giving me the Dan Morgan books, and I’m officially hooked. As usual, the story is fast moving and exciting, but I was particularly impressed by how topical this book is—tackling the current political climate in Turkey. This is a great series that never ceases to hit the mark or surprise me.

This book is the very definition of a compelling action-packed thriller. The author clearly knows what he's doing and draws the reader in from page one. A really intense read with a great hero. I'll have to back and find out what Dan Morgan was up to in his earlier stories.
I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.

This is book 8 in the series. I had a hard time reading this one as I found it not very believable. It has a simple storyline so is easy to follow and is a quick read I’m afraid it didn’t hold my attention very well.

Not the best written story. Too basic, little drama, no unexpected turns. Just ok. Not a Clive story by any means.

Dan is back, I like his stories better than Alex as it boggles the mind that a barely 20 year old can be black ops!

This was very short- like a novella

Not worth the read

Short story sold as a novel. Almost 15% is filler pages and previews of next book. No side plots, no twists, no suspense.
