Four years ago, Allie and Aidan parted ways. She had a new life that didn’t include him. He had a secret he couldn’t share.

Aidan:

It broke his heart, but to save her, he had to set her free.

Shielding Allie and his family from his new life is the only thing that keeps Aidan going. That, and his special bond with his partner, Naomi. Together they have an important job to do.

Convince the Milan Initiative they can be trusted to lead an army of Syntrophos—an army that is loyal to Aidan alone.

But betrayal is like a cloud hanging over them. It lurks in every corner, leaving Aidan and Naomi unable to trust anyone but themselves.

Allie:

Reeling from the loss of the most important person in her life, Allie’s spirit is broken. Her only anchor in the storm is her Syntrophos, Darius McBrien. With Aidan’s inexplicable absence, Allie distances herself from the McBrien family, finding solace in an unexpected friendship.

Determined to keep her indomitable sister, Livia behind bars where she belongs, Allie moves on with her life. But as the brewing war in the Dreamworld reaches new heights, Allie and Livia must work together with Navid and Quinn to stop the dream walker who threatens the very lifeblood of the Dreamworld.

Allie has been warned. Someone close to her will betray her. But her clairvoyance didn’t come with a rulebook and Allie has no idea who she can trust.

Melissa A. Craven (the "A" stands for Ann—in case you were wondering) was born near Atlanta, Georgia, but moved to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of seventeen. She still thinks of Cleveland as home, so it was only natural for Emerge to take place there.
Today, she is back in Atlanta—for some reason she can't seem to stay away from the ungodly heat that makes her long for things like "lake effect snow" and wind that will knock you flat.
Melissa decided a long time ago that the “life checklist” everyone else was clutching so tightly in their fists, just wasn’t for her. She does everything backwards because she is weird like that, but then, she is an artist and artists are notoriously "unique" and "quirky."
She is an avid student of art and design, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of West Georgia in 2009. She worked as an interior designer for several years, but she's always thought she might like to be a writer when she grows up.
In her spare time, if she has any, she enjoys shopping for derelict furniture she refinishes to exercise the interior design part of her brain.

Everything I've been waiting for.

The story:
We know a bit about Allie and Aidan's separation from the previous book, but only from Allie's point of view. Here, we get the full story. Aidan is a powerful immortal. When his true strength is betrayed and the coalition comes after him, he has no choice but to agree to anything they want him to do in order to protect his family. Soon, his mission becomes about more than that as he's thrust into the role of leader of a small special force team. They're only kids, yet he has to train them for unspeakable asks, in hopes that one day they can overcome their captors and return to the people they love. Only, the ones they love aren't sitting at home waiting for them. They're making dangerous moves of their own.

What I loved:
Everything. This book was well worth the wait. I'll always hold Aidan's lies against him a bit, but now I understand why he did everything he did. He's noble and has a protective streak a mile wide. The only person strong enough to truly handle him is Allie. It hurt seeing them so torn apart, but I loved getting her interactions with Aidan's family without him standing in the way. Darius is just too precious, and the real betrayal in this book took me completely by surprise.
As I've come to expect from this author, the writing style pulled me in and didn't let me go.

What was just okay:
The fact that I now have to wait for the next book. Boo.

Final Verdict:
A compelling story with twists and turns to keep the reader constantly guessing and never really knowing what anyone's true motives are. Amazing characters. A creative world. And such an intricately designed plot. Truly masterful.

This book answers a lot of questions left over from the last book with Allie and Aidan, and we learn about why they had not spoken to each other in so long. I enjoyed this book, and I love how it’s building on the others, but still maintaining its own identity as well. Another great job by Ms. Craven.

5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.

4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.

3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.

2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.

1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

So this book goes back in time again and takes place beginning at the same time as the end of both Judgement (book 2) and Captive (book 3) through the end of Heir (book 4). This book is told from the POV of both Aidan and Allie.

This is the book that we learn the details of what all Aidan went through in the 4 years that he was away from Allie. We also find out more of what was going on in Allie’s life before the events of Heir start up. We also discover why Aidan left when he did, and it is such a beautiful and heartbreaking reason.

This series just keeps on getting better and better. The story line is so unique and has so much depth to it. Seeing how interconnected so many of the side storylines are across the books is just mind blowing. There is just so much going on in the Immortal world. I am excited to see where the story goes in book 6!

This was such an amazing read. Although the fantasy journey continues this was an enjoyable and exciting episode that tied up quite a few loose ends. It makes the ongoing epic saga more solid in terms of stability of the storyline.
This is one heck of a magical fantasy adventure series and Melissa is simply an awesome writer.

Can’t wait for the last 2 books in the series. A wonderful escape from the stresses of everyday life.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Allie and Aidan are back for the continuation of their story. Lots of action, danger, intrigue, surprises and betrayal. Glued to the end to see what would happen and what surprises were in store for these two. A lot of stuff from the series ends up here as plans and craziness meet. Who would make it to the end was my burning question. Loved the suspense and intrigue. So hard to put down.

I’m shooketh

Um I have no words I’m so shook. One of the best books ever written period. No lies all facts, the tea is that this book slaps in ways many other books just can’t. This book had me crying soft and I enjoyed it immensely.

Absolutely Fantastic. I lived how this book answered questions on why Adian and Allie stopped talking for so long. The twist in this boom was a big shock. I wasn't expecting it at all.

Loved finding out a bit more about what happened to Aidan, but I feel like, for the most part, the storyline was covered in the last book. I want to know what happens next.

When is the next book out?

Another great read

I have thoroughly loved this series from the first book in. I am not usually a fan of series with 4+ books-I often feel like the author is trying too hard. That is NOT the case with this series-if anything you get more hooked on the story line and the characters! Can’t wait for the rest!!!
