Smokejumper Conner Young can't wait to marry the woman who's stood by him for three years as he fought fires in the forests of the northwest. The only wound in the weekend is the lack of his best man—a brother whose murder is still unsolved. It's unfinished business that haunts him, keeping him from truly moving on.
Liza Beaumont, long time Deep Haven artist is a survivor of a brutal grizzly attack. Struggling with nightmares, she's not sure she's ready to join Conner's world. He's a hero, yes, but his life is rife with danger and stress and frankly she's not sure she has the courage to be the wife of a man who may not come home again.
When Liza's wedding invitation unearths a witness in his brother's murder, Conner's hope of solving the case is reignited. Suddenly, it's a choice between showing up to help Liza knit together their perfect day--or tracking down his brother's killer. But when his investigation finds its way to Deep Haven, and Liza's life is threatened, there may not be a wedding at all.
What happens when the smokejumpers from Montana Fire come to Deep Haven? Sparks, fire and hopefully...a happy ending.
I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.
I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.
I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.
I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. This by far has been my favorite in the series! Such a good story! Cooper and Liza are perfect for each other. I loved the comments the Pastor shared with Liza during what was supposed to be the "meeting" the bride and groom have before the wedding. There was action, cute phrases, and moments that made my heart cry and rejoice at the same time. Well done!
There are a lot of moving characters in this series and sometimes it can be a little difficult to keep up with all of them but in the end, it's totally worth it. I was able to relate to the main characters as well. I FELT and understood the thoughts and feelings they were processing.
Rating: PG Language: no profanity or use of deity in a negative way - there were some moments where I think a swear word was implied, but never spoken Recommend: YES!
Oh. My. Goodness. Don’t pick this up if you don’t have a couple of hours to spare, because you will NOT want to put it down. Susan May Warren’s Montana Fire series is one of the most action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled, emotionally intense romantic suspense series out there, and this novella is no different. It also brings together so many characters from her other series--Deep Haven, Team Hope, and Christiansen Family--so for fans of Susan May Warren’s novels, this is a must read!
If you haven’t already read Playing With Fire you might want to pick that up before you read this one, because that’s where Conner and Liza’s story begins. It will also help you understand exactly why Liza is so conflicted about marrying a man who can’t help but throw himself into dangerous situations head-first. To be honest, I can’t blame her, but maybe that’s why I’m not married to a smokejumper!
It’s an intense three days leading up to the wedding, and...um...I’m pretty sure wedding planning isn’t going to be in Liza’s future! But danger? As Pastor Dan says, “This is a crisis of faith. It’s only solved by trusting God’s character, His love for us, regardless of what He may do.” . . . “When your heart’s desire is the will of the Lord above everything else, then life loses its threat, because His love will carry us through every situation.”
Conner will give it all up if that’s what Liza needs, but is that a sacrifice she can ask him to make? That’s just one of the things they’re grappling with, in amongst making sure they don’t get taken out by snipers or fire-engulfed buildings, sharing some fabulously swoon-worthy moments, and trying to fast-track the marriage licence they forgot to apply for!
Take the phone off the hook, then sit down and buckle up for the ride!
For so many reasons I love this book. Mostly because it's the bringing together, again, of two of my favourite Susan May Warren series. Montana Fire & The Christiansen Family. You know it was so hard to say goodbye to Deep Haven, but here we are again and I've loved every minute.
Tense, gripping, edge of your seat stuff, Susan's books never fail to give you that little bit extra. Suspense, mystery and certainly nothing predictable. In fact you will be left wondering the fate of Connor & Liza right to the bitter end. What about all these other characters we love so much? Many of their put their lives on the line - this is truly a page turner.
My only issue is with the huge cast of appearances and it being some time since I read anything from Deep Haven, I felt a little lost on occasion. I have not read any of the Team Hope series, or all of the Deep Haven novels. I felt like this story is really the crowning glory of them all, and, because I didn't know who everyone was getting a mention, I felt a little disconnected as a reader. It's a minor gripe, and didn't take away from the plot overall.
Stunning book. Glad I made the purchase. Nice to take that trip back to Minnesota one more time.
I’ll Be There was simply a wonderful, wonderful book! It is connected to a few of the book series that are written by Susan May Warren. I knew Liza and Conner from the Montana Fire series and the Christiansen Family series. Knowing the background of these two characters, at the very least from the Montana Fire series is a must, in my opinion.
I absolutely loved this book! It was filled with romance, tension, and danger! This was a thrilling story in so many ways. Liza and Conner have been through so much and although they found their happily ever after in another story, this book tells what happens after that. If you have loved the Montana Fire series, then you will love this one, too. And if you loved the Christiansen Family series, the Montana Fire series is a great series to start next. I highly recommend.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
"I don't know how to reconcile my fears with my love for you."
Therein lies Liza Beaumont's conundrum, loving a man who rushes ahead to put others first, without any thought for his own safety, as he so heroically demonstrated when he rescued her from a brutal bear attack, from which she barely survived.
Yes, Conner Young is unequivocally "full throttle", and only three days away from saying "I do", to the most beautiful woman in his world, yet recognizing that Liza is still fragile from that traumatic attack and second guessing everything about their future. He has no intention of letting her down . . . . . until, a phone call changes everything.
As Conner races to find answers from the past regarding his brother's murder, it seems that Liza's generous invitations to their wedding has not only drawn friends, but dangerous enemies as well. Is Conner equipped to keep Liza safe while assuring her that his love is unconditional? And can Liza trust that "when her heart's desire is the will of the Lord above everything else, then life loses its threat" . . . . .. can she truly "raise her Ebenezer"?
Enjoy this adrenaline laced blend of Susan May Warren's "Deep Haven" and "Montana Fire" characters, bearing witness to a glorious love affair born out of weaknesses. "Come thou fount of many blessings".
I've read all the Christiansens and Montana Fire. Still need to catch up with Deep Haven and Montana Rescue. (I've also read the series Noble Legacy and Team Hope)
Make sure you can read it in one sitting. You won't want to put it down.
I'll be there by Susan May Warren is a delightful tale of a wedding gone wrong. Most people are anxious for their wedding day, but Liz has every reason to be upset. From the night terrors to the sniper shots hitting her and her fiancé, Conner, Liz feels their marriage is something that shouldn't happen. From the first chapter, Warren dragged me into the familiar setting of Deep Haven with the return of familiar characters from a number of different characters who appeared in her past series. I really enjoyed seeing familiar characters and settings. The romance between Conner and Liz was sweet, and I couldn't wait to see if their marriage would actually occur. The high tension of someone shooting at Conner as the past rears its head brings a lot of ducking and running for cover sprinkled with conflict across every page of the story. The excitement filled my suspense-loving heart. I had a hard time putting the novel down. It flowed quickly and captured my imagination. I hope Warren writes more stories with returning favorites.
I'LL BE THERE is Ms. Warren's newest book, a self-published page turner romantic adventure. i enjoyed reading this and literally read it all in a few hours. I did have parts where I "knew" what would "happen" and there were other parts that caught me by surprise.
Fans of Susan May Warren will devour this latest story, and it's a good way to tide yourself over while waiting for her new full-length book A Matter Of Trust to release in July.
Don't miss I'LL BE THERE. Ms. Warren is my favorite contemporary romantic adventure author and my fifteen year old daughter loves her books too. "I purchased this book. All opinions are my own."
Smokejumper Connor Young is getting ready to marry the woman who's stood beside him for three years, artist Liza Beaumont. And while she's still struggling with nightmares as she tries to recover from a vicious grizzly bear attack, she keeps telling herself that the panic she feels at the thought of what Connor does for a living will fade once they're actually married. But when Connor gets a chance to dig into the mystery of who murdered his brother, is the ensuing danger too much for Liza to take?
I loved how this book went beyond happily ever after - so few books do that! It was wonderful to explore some of the complex and deeper issues in a relationship beyond the marriage proposal. As usual with a Susan May Warren novel, the spiritual issues feel authentic and deeply ingrained in the story itself. This can be read as a stand-alone, but it's much better to read as a follow-up to Connor and Liza's original story in Playing with Fire.
Filled with adventure and emotion, I'll Be There is a moving tribute to the value of promises made and kept by the people we love and by the God who loves us. Another winner for Susan May Warren.
Oh, wow! There is just something thrilling about starting a Susan May Warren novel! For fans of Warren, this novel is the culmination of something beautiful and exciting. Warren brings together an ensemble cast from Deep Haven, as well as her Montana Fire, Montana Rescue and Team Hope series! Seriously, this story has long been anticipated and was no less amazing than I expected it to be!
So, get ready to be completely engrossed, on the edge of your seat and utterly delighted by this one. If possible, try to start it when you have several hours to just be alone with it, because I promise you it is hard to put down and stop thinking about. This one has all the feels; suspense, action, romance, faith, hope and more... I see the seeds for some new story lines in here!
I would recommend reading Playing with Fire, Book 2 in the Montana Fire Series first. Connor and Liza meet in another novel but the meat of their story is found in the aforementioned book. Truthfully, Connor and Liza show up in several of Warren's novels (individually), but you do not have to read them all to get this one. I can however, highly recommend all of her earlier books, they were wonderful!
(Sigh, I am still in the ahhh moment over this one! Loved it!)
I finished this book in 2 days! The last time I were able to do that was before my baby when I had a full day just to read...
So, if you are like me - love series and especially love series which connects with other series because yes, your favourite characters makes an appearance, you will love this book. And if you love action, danger and a sweet love story, you will definitely love this book.
The first series I read from mrs warren was her Team Hope series, where I was introduced to Conner, then I met him again in the first book of the Christiansen series where he made an appearance, after which I mailed the author to ask if it was the same Conner and was happy to learn he will have his own story, which started in the Montana fire series and was completed in this book.
Micah from Team Hope and a few favourite Christiansens from the Christiansen series played important roles in this book. I haven't read the Deep Haven series, but there is also a few characters from that series, so that series just jumped onto my TBR.
Apart from the fast moving action, adventure and danger, the characters (Liza and Conner) both had to work through some personal issues and fears and it was a sweet journey.
Recommended to fans of the above mentioned series, and romantic suspense.
This delightful crossover novel brings together the Deep Haven community Ms. Warren's readers know and love with the brave smoke jumpers from the Jude County Hot Shots. Conner Young and his firefighting brothers in arms (or axes) travel to Deep Haven for his wedding to the lovely Liza Beaumont. Meanwhile, it seems Liza has invited the entire population of Deep Haven to the wedding and can't find a venue big enough to hold everyone. Conner is determined to keep his promise to be at the wedding, but unfinished business hangs over his head. As the bride and groom keep asking themselves why they didn't just elope, something sinister rolls into Deep Haven. Will they make it to the altar in one piece, or will one of them sacrifice a deep, heart-felt love for the other's happiness?
Amazing book that constantly kept me on the edge of my seat. Lots of suspense and sweet romance. I adored Liza and Conner! They have waited a long time to have their HEA....and have to overcome insurmountable obstacles....I HIGHLY recommend this inspirational romantic suspense! The message of faith in this book inspired me incredibly. I love this book!!
This book is another great story from Susan May Warren. There was adventure, romance, suspense, drama and through it all there was God's never-ending love, and acceptance. Have you ever struggled with a fear so strong it cripples you or have you ever grieved so deeply it hurts, but didn't want others to know you were falling apart? That's what the main characters in this story were dealing with as well as trying to pull together a weddings which seemed to have roadblocks left and right. Through all these things Susan May Warren paints a picture of undying love and hope. My heart was overwhelmed with several different emotions while reading this story. It was a book I needed to have tissues handy. I highly recommend picking it up.
I loved I'll Be There! I have thoroughly enjoyed this whole series (Deep Haven/Montana Fire) This latest book is Liza and Conner's story. Liza is the pottery maker from book #2 Playing With Fire and Conner is one of the fire jumpers from Montana. I have loved all of the Christiansens and their extended family in Deep Haven. The books all have characters you fall in love with and stories are packed full of action as well as high emotions. I love the way the spiritual message is carried throughout the whole book not just woven in at the end. These books can be read as stand alone books, each tells a complete story, but it is so much better when you know the story of each person in the book. (In my opinion) If you like a good, clean love story that has a spiritual message, you will love this book and the whole series.
Conner Young met Liza Beaumont several years ago while fighting a fire in Minnesota. They are set to be married in three days.
Unfortunately, if it can go wrong, it is going wrong. Liza is having panic attacks, they can't find a reception venue big enough to hold everyone, and her dress is the wrong color. Although Conner has a hero complex and is always there to save the day, he finds he can't let go of finding his brother's killer after he gets a clue.
Once it is all over, Liza isn't sure is strong enough to stand being Conner's wife, worrying about him, having him rush into danger. As the author puts it, Liza has to love God enough to marry Conner.
This novel has more action than most of Warren's stories, but it surely is a page turner.
Action packed days written into pages that was leading into a wedding day at Deep Haven. Names dropped from other series meeting up on this day with drama, what else could go wrong? A new character Seth seems a good guy to get his own story sometime Susan? Romeo also. I wonder in Gage's story if any of these guys showup? Next book to read.
Wow. Just wow. A great read full of adventure and non stop action. To me the best part is that Susie May Warren has a deep abiding relationship with her Lord and savior that resounds in her writing. You grow as a reader and I promise God can speak to your heart through her words she penned under HIS anointing. Loved see characters from the Deep Haven series. Her best writing involves family-whether it's blood related or through circumstances.
Loved Lisa and Conner, both as individuals in other books and then ultimately as they became the H/h of their own story and survived to commit their love finally and completely to one another. In this book, I really began to doubt along with Lisa if they could make it. How to live day by day with your one true love constantly being face to face with his potential death. This was a great and very realistic look into those struggles and how faith and trust in God played into that. I also Totally loved the joyful surprise revealed in this one. Already looking forward to the next book by Susan May Warren!
This was a nice follow up to Conner and Liza's story. The whole terrorism story was a little hard to follow, and got somewhat far fetched toward the end. However, I enjoyed the romance side of it and especially loved the ending. I would still love to read Pete's story, so hopefully there will be more stories of these guys in the future.
This book is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Connor and Liza's story with all the twists and turns!! Along with myriads of other readers, I enjoyed the reunion of so many favorite characters from previous stories!! AND I loved the encouragement to one's faith through the crisis of theirs! This quote by Pastor Dan was just one of my faves... "When your heart’s desire is the will of the Lord, above everything else, then life loses its threat, because His love will carry us through every situation." HIGHLY recommended!!!!
Oh. My. Goodness. Deep Haven and Montana Fire in one novel! What a pleasure this book was! I love Susan May Warren's books, anyway, but this was just pure wonderful. We see all the old friends from Montana Fire, all the Christiansens but two (I missed them!) and it is truly superb.
Susan May Warren always includes the most powerful spiritual messages in her books and she did not disappoint in this one. Will we love God and trust Him enough to tread where we are unsure? Where we can't see how the path will work? Oh goodness, I loved this book.
Connor Young and Liza Beaumont are days away from their wedding when everything starts happening. Again, Warren delves into emotions so deep the reader feels them in her own heart. I seriously wept through the last 15% of this book! Full out ugly crying. Some sad, most joyful, but I wept! This was an experience, not just a good read. Wow! Don't miss this one, folks. Truly a joy to read and highly recommended.
Another Deeply Moving, Wonderfully Woven Story!! The only problem I have with this author is that I never want her stories to end! I always want MORE! Like her other novels, this story is based on a hymn, which had me singing it throughout the book. One of my favorite quotes in the book is: “The Ebenezer…was a stone that Samuel set up after God protected them…It means, ‘THUS FAR THE LORD HAS HELPED US.’…These scars are your Ebenezer marks.” And I love this line: “God is trustworthy, before, during, and after our wounds.” This book is such an accurate portrayal of what marriage should be, and how God uses it to help us understand our relationship with Him. And another favorite quote is: “We come to Him, but HE RUNS AFTER US.” This book helps us think about embracing "God’s love in the midst of your scars.” I HIGHLY recommend this book and this author!
A fantastic blend of two of my favorite series, the Christiansen family and Montana Fire. I was super excited to return to Deep Haven. Susan May Warren knocks this one out of the park with a fast-paced quest to get Conner and Liza to the altar. But Conner's trip is interrupted by some unfinished business regarding his brother's murder, which he can't help but investigate. As others have stated, it is really hard to put this story down and return to real life. The romance and suspense kept me engrossed in the story until the very end. Well done!
Oh boy... thanks again, Susie May, for making my life incredibly difficult!🙄 I currently find myself trapped in the real world, missing all of my Deep Haven, Team Hope, Christensen, and Smoke Jumping friends! Seriously, I’m not actually sure I can move on with my life.... I’ve got so many things that I NEED to do, and all I WANT to do, is reread this over, and over, and over again!
It left me speechless; with tears in my eyes and a very, very happy heart!!😊 The way Susan May brings so many of her characters together in this story is really just the most beautiful thing! Nostalgic... taking us back to remember all of their stories and the amazing adventures that we got to take with them! This is seriously one of my favorite stories. Ever. All I want to do is pick it up... relive Conner and Liza’s story all over again! Maybe go back and reread everyone else’s too and leave real life behind for a while!😉
I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone that has read some of Susie’s past books! I feel like you really have to in order to appreciate all the characters! I haven’t read all of the Christensen books and now am going to go back and do just that so I can appreciate all of those characters even more!😊 Love, love this story!!♥️♥️♥️
Wow. This book tore at my heart strings, mended it, made it overflow with happiness and then repeated the cycle...a couple times.
I was excited to get to read about Connor and Liza's wedding! They are my favorites from the Montana Fire series and I was looking forward to a sweet wedding story.
I should have known that Susan would make it wayyyyyyy more exciting and dangerous than that!
At the same time, however, I loved that we got to get Connor closure on his brother's death. And having all of the Montana Fire guys, plus some other past characters along for the ride?! That just made it even better.
As always, Susan kept me on the edge of my seat from the moment the investigation started, to the very last page of this book. I absolutely loved every second of our hero firefighters, making sure that justice prevailed...and that Connor made it to his wedding.
This series has been so special, too, because of the faith themes. They continue to speak to my heart more and more with each story. It's an incredible feeling I hope I never get used to with Susan's stories!
Once again Susan May Warren delivers a brilliant novel that seamlessly combines faith, romance, suspense, and a charm that comes from familiar characters and settings.
I'll Be There is a Deep Haven series and Montana Fire series crossover. It is also the second book to follow the characters Liza and Connor. At first I was a little worried about continuing Liza and Connor's romance. I do love a happy ending. Haven't Liza and Connor suffered enough? But their story had so much more to offer.
There is no end to the twists, tension, and wedding drama, woven throughout with Liza and Connor's faith journeys and their journey as a couple. The are also so many familiar faces from the Deep Haven series, the Montana Fire series, the Christiansen Family series, and even the Team Hope series, so fans of Susan May Warren's writing will love this story. It also introduces a few new characters who I would love to see get their own story.
