The above quote is something I very relatable as a reader and I just thought it was beautiful to read. As readers, we read to escape the world around us and dive into another one, but do you ever get that feeling that you’ll never read enough to have that feeling continuously?

ANYWAY! This was a very interesting novella within the Ryder Bay series and Jace is a very different character to all of the men we’ve come across.

Jace is an adrenaline junkie who clearly doesn’t think things through and in the end, it only gets his best friend hurt. While reading everything from Jace’s POV, I could understand why he was acting the way he was, but I think he was also capable of telling his mum how he felt and that things could’ve solved much easier and this whole situation could’ve been avoided. He definitely needs to grow up and I think his stay in Ryder Bay will help him mature.

I loved getting to see some emails from Lette because I was intrigued to see what was going on with her after reading her sister’s story. I feel as though Lette is going to be relatable in numerous ways, and I just hope she doesn’t get her heartbroken when she learns who Jace actually is. She has such a kind heart and that was shown through the emails.

I’m very very very excited to see how things play out!

I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Riptide is a novella by Jordan Ford. It's part of the Boys of Summer series, I think they are books by different authors all set in the same beach town, but mostly it reads like a prequel for the next Rydar Bay book.

Riptide is told from the point of view of Jace, also known as Bass. Jace is a thrill seeker. He longs to feel that empty angsty feeling inside of him by chasing the next high, the next rush, the next adrenaline spike. And then one day that search for the next high brings him to e-mail a suspicious e-mail for someone who can give him a bigger high, but he mistypes and ends up e-mailing with a girl called Snap Dragon. Someone who gets him and is there for him, while the whole world seems to not to care about him.

Riptide was a fast read, but quite a lot happens in this novella. We get to know Jace and get a feel for him, see him land in trouble and get to know Snap Dragon. I have to admit I found Jace a bit a difficult to like at first, he longs for the next thrill and rush and doesn't think about danger, consequences or who he hurts along the way. But then we get an insight in his feelings and how his search for the next thrill is just a way to bury his hurt. It was hard not to feel sorry for him. And I do think he is a good guy deep down, but you only get glimpses of that guy and those glimpses where what I liked. His cover up behavior just made me feel sad and worried for him. The whole book has a bit of a desperate tone at times and also sad in moments, but it's that glimmer of hope that made me curious.

I loved his e-mails with Snap Dragon. The way their e-mails without knowing who was on the other side gave them that anonymity to share their real feelings and talk about deep topics that they couldn't easily talk about with those who did knew them. And Jace seemed very lonely in a way and his connection with Snap Dragon became so important for them both. I also liked what we got to see of Snap Dragon through the e-mails, even tough we don't get her point of view I do feel like we get to know her a bit. I thought this set-up was quite interesting with how he starts to e-mailing a stranger and they connect.

There are also some friends of Jace who were interesting to read about. They seemed quite close and I liked How Jace sought more in Isaac's behavior and how much he cared for his girlfriend. I also liked his best friend. there is an event later in the book that came as quite the shock. It was quite sad and while I do believe it wasn't Jace's fault I could understand why he felt guilty. It was just so sad.

I thought the author captured the teenage emotions very well. There is something so raw about it and it has that vibe that I associate with teenage emotions. It all felt very believable how Jace acted, even tough it hurt me to see him act that way. While the novella does wrap part up, in a way it just feels like the prequel for the real story. It sure makes me curious to learn more about these characters and I am excited to read the rest of their story. The ending place is well chosen, although it isn't quite a happy ending, it is ending part of Jace's story and starting another chapter in a way.

To summarize: Riptide follows the character Jace who is always looking for his next rush in a desperate attempt to escape the empty feelings inside. No one seems to care about him and only that adrenaline rush makes him feel alive. I found it hard to like Jace at first, but along the way when we get to see some of the deeper emotions behind his behavior I began to feel for him. There are some sad parts and the book has this desperate and sad feel at times, but also hope. And it's the hopeful moments that I loved best. The e-mails with Snap Dragon were fun to read and I liked how these two character were there for another and shared quite a bit without knowing each other in real life. This novella feels very much as a prequel and there will be a full length book that continues their story. I am curious to see where it goes next and see the guy Jace will grow into.

*I have received a copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review!*

I finished the book and was left with such a good feeling inside me.
I found the e-letters between Bass and SnapDragon to be so heartfelt, and wholesome. I can't tell you much about it because I don't want to spoil the surprise but I have got to say I am very delighted that Ms. Ford managed to pull the rabbit out of the hat in such a charming performance that left me wanting more.
This is the beginning of an amazing journey, I am so sure of it.
I can't wait for the next book to find out how all this will pan out. Because I had no idea till almost the very end who SnapDragon was, and now that I know I am so anxious to read the next book.
Thank you so much for this great read. It is close to my heart.

Jace - or Bass as he is known throughout most of this book - is a thrill-seeker. He is the ultimate paradox - a bad boy who doesn't actually try to be bad and has a heart. He makes stupid decisions based on hurt feelings. His story is completely understandable and heartbreaking with how he feels. Ms. Ford has done a magnificent job of bringing him to life, to make his quandary completely relatable.

And that's the thing with this book. As a reader, I got it. I could see where Bass was coming from, and why he behaved the way he did. Would I make the same decisions? No, but then I'm not a sixteen-year-old boy with the same experiences as him.

With no editing or grammatical errors that jolted me, I thoroughly enjoyed this novella, and can't wait to see what happens when he goes to Ryder Bay and meets up with SnapDragon.

As a standalone, this is a great read. As a prequel to the next Ryder Bay story, it's fantastic! Definitely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

I easily finished this book in like three hours. I really liked this one and the author pulled off what it's like to be a teenager and how it feels to be pushed out of your family.
Jace is a partier who likes to stay out late and feel the rush of getting in trouble. His mom is pregnant and his dad doesn't want anything to do with the family. He doesn't feel like his mom's new husband is his dad so he feels like family is pushing him out. He can't stay in his room for long and has to get out and do things. He has a great group of friends though that try to keep him in line and out of too much trouble. He definitely gets into trouble though and this book didn't end like I thought it would at all. He ends up getting a card about the ultimate rush but then messes up the emails when he tries to send one while a little drunk still. It ends up being sent to some random girl that answers him and talks about her life. I loved the messages between Snap Dragon and Jace; I don't really understand how people can just say all of that without knowing the other person but at the same time it makes total sense. Even though Jace is kind of a bad boy and gets into trouble; I still loved him as a character and felt bad for him because he didn't want to get into trouble and make his mom cry but he still needed to feel the rush and couldn't handle his family life in the right way. The author did a great job at making these characters relatable and the messages were my favorite part of this story I think. I could not help but cry closer to the end when it came to what happened and how Jace's family handled it. I am super excited for the next story though where these two hopefully meet in real life. I am super curious about Snap Dragon and her life.

Jace has never felt good enough. His father didn't want him, now his mother has replaced him. At least that's how he feels, so to fill the emptiness in himself, he is always in search of a rush. When he's given an email address to get the ultimate rush, he can't resist. But when he mistakenly emails the wrong address, he finds something better. He finds an email buddy. He develops an internet relationship with a girl who seems to understand him better than anyone else ever has. Then when tragedy strikes and it's his fault, when his world comes crashing down, his email buddy is the only thing holding him together.

Riptide is a Boys of Summer novella, a collaboration between several YA authors. They are all standalone stories that take place in the same fictional town. The story starts out in Sterling Beach but it's leading to a place all Jordan Ford readers are familiar with. In August Jace's story will continue in a more familiar place and I can't wait. I think when it's all said and done Jace and Snapdragon may turn out to be my favorite couple yet. Jace breaks a piece of my heart. He's rash, thoughtless, and immature but he never meant harm. His pain and vulnerability speak to me. Time, maturity, and perspective are what he needs. And when he's ready, someone he can call his own. He needs Snapdragon. And boy does she need him. She will help heal him, make him see reality. He will help her step out of her books and stop hiding behind her camera lens. They will bring balance to one another. They will be better versions of themselves together. As much as I enjoyed their black words on a white screen, I look forward to them being together in a color-filled world.

So good

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2019...

***** There's spoilers kind of in this review***

Ughhhh!

This book was so good; gosh, I am disappointed because I wanted more from this book. But also glad it came from a guy perspective instead of only girls perspective... it's good to learn and read about the guy point of view... this story was so good; that literally read it in one day TBH!

It was sad what happened to Hayes... I was like dang Hayes... I hope that he actually can walk again and not be paralyzed... I do think that Jace is going to do good in Ryder Bay... I don't think he's going to be doing that crazy crap he was doing in Sterling Beach... because he was too reckless... I did felt like he could've told Issac and Vic no when it was there idea in the first place... the sucky part about what happened the one who didn't want to do it "Hayes" ended up hurt badly... & Jace gotten sent away; which could've been avoided if he could've listened to Hayes about not doing that crazy crap...

I guess his parent got fed up and made a good decision with shipping him away. I do hope he realizes that his mom and Tony actually do care and Tony is a way better man and father his actual dad is... but with him thinking his mom didn't care about him did affect him which I think he could've talked to her about his feelings and what she was doing was hurting him ... but instead, he ran away and gotten into more trouble...

Besides that UGHHHH I want to read "Wipe Out" like it said it's coming out in July 2019 but what date? I need to know because I want to know what's going to happen when he meets his computer texting buddy ......

Jace. A guy who felt like the only place he belonged was either with his friends or finding the next adrenaline rush. It could be climbing fences or jumping roofs. Something was missing inside him and he didn't know how to fill it. He didn't feel at place at home, with his mother, who is expecting and a new man in her life. He didn't belong with his father in France, who straight out told him that he was a mistake. His friends, well they were there for whatever ride Jace was willing to take them on, like best friends usually are.

Jace gets a card with an email address on it and the notion that this person could give him the "ride of his life." Jace types in the email address, but mistakenly types it in incorrectly. When he receives an email back, not from the person that was intended, he learns that this person might be someone he can reach out to. This girl..Snapdragon..could be the one to put him back together in a way he never thought possible. But what will happen when he tells her more? Will she still like him? Will she start judging him for the things that he has done? Who is this girl? Where is she from and what does she look like? All these questions start to invade Jace's thoughts as more and more events unfold throughout this amazing book of mystery, brokenness, and excitement.

Boys of Summer

Jace, a.k.a. Bass, is a 16 year old boy who thinks no one will ever want him and that he is always being pushed away. His dad moved overseas when he was younger,  leaving him with his mom. Now his mom is remarried and they are expecting a baby, making Bass feel like he lost his mom to Tony and their baby.

While at a party, after Bass thought it was a good idea to jump from a two story balcony into a pool, a girl he was dancing with gave him the email address to someone who could get him something to give him that rush feeling he is always seeking. After a night of hanging with his buddies and drinking, Bass decides to email SnapDragon and see what’s up.

The next morning, his computer dings to let him know he’s got a new email. Bass discovers that in his drunken state last night, he added numbers that did not belong in the email and sent it to someone else. What happened in his drunken haze ends up being a good thing as he makes an online email buddy. After a few emails back and forth they decide to keep things anonymous because they don’t want to mess up what they have with each other, which happens to be finding out that someone else out there knows what you are going through. They get to know each other, and as things turn bad for Bass and he gets grounded to his room, he turns to S and she helps him through things.

I received this as an ARC for my honest and voluntary review.

Jace "Bass" Bastion, in an adrenaline junkie, and can't get enough of the rush he feels when he pulls off a dangerous stunt. He goes to a party with his friends, a girl hands him a business card, and tells him if he wants the ultimate rush all he has to do is send an email, the first time is free. Jace is pretty drunk when he gets home, so when he sends that email, yep, you guessed it, he types the address in wrong. He starts exchanging emails with a girl he figures he will never meet, so he tells her things he hasn't told his friends. Jace and his friends will go out, this shouldn't be dangerous, but when the cops are called they will run, and there will be devastating consequences. In fact, his mother will send him across the country to stay with his aunt in Ryder Bay, CA.

While his buddies seem to be typical teenage boys, Jace is not dealing well with his mom's new husband, this seems to be the cause of his angst, and the increasingly dangerous stunts he pulls, putting himself and his friends lives in danger. Fantastic book, with action, teenage angst, and unforeseen consequences. I think this is a must read, and I loved it.

I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.

As much as I groaned at the trouble Jace got into, I really liked him. He was a contradiction. A teenager whose parents have split up where he feels like the forgotten child. Both parents have found happiness with someone else which makes him feel like he has no one but the friends who support him, no matter what. Those same friends that also push boundaries and get into situations that border on illegal and dangerous. But here is the thing, yes, he makes some bad decisions but he isn't a horrible person. Just misguided, lashing out, seeking some validation that he still matters.

After a night of drinking and paryting, one simple mistake leads to him emailing a girl that will help him see that things are not as bad as he thinks, even when things go from reckless to one of the worst nights of his life.

Pen pals can be a great thing, when those pen pals truly are people that you can relate to and whom mean you no harm. Although a short story, it was engaging and pretty insightful for a couple of strangers who "meet" through a twist of fate. I for one cannot wait for the next book when these two actually meet.

After his parents' divorce, Jace and his mother became very close, but when she marries again and becomes pregnant, he feels as if he has been excluded from her life and, as a consequence, behaves in a reckless way, since he is an adrenaline junkie.
When he receives a card that promises the thrill of a lifetime, he accepts, but ends up sending the email to the wrong person.
He then begins a virtual relationship with a girl, Snap Dragon, who truly understands his pain. While they spend more time chatting through emails, Jace continues with his reckless behavior.
But when an unexpected event threatens the lives of loved ones, Jace will need to face the consequences of his actions.
I loved the story and the characters, and I'm already looking forward to read more about Jace and his virtual friend.
I highly recommend the reading.

Riptide is the prequel novella of Jace, a teenager who is dealing with a newly pregnant mother while living an adrenaline-filled life. He loves the thrill of risky his life and doing all sorts of crazy things. When a girl gives him an email address to get his next thrill, he ends up getting something better. He emails the wrong person and ends up communicating with a girl his age. After a dangerous thing happens, his mom and step dad sends him to the other side of the country, hoping that he changes his life around. The prequel was a good start to Jace and the mystery girl’s story, I loved seeing him open up to her and finally realizing that his life was out of control. This was a quick story, where we only got Jace’s side. I thought it was a good start to their story and can’t wait to read the ending Jace’s story, which will be out in a couple of months.

I received an ARC of this book and decided to write a review.
A new series from Jordan Ford. Jace is a hellion. Seemingly carefree, he's actually bleeding inside. He seeks thrills to hide the pain. The only one who knows is Snap Dragon and she's an email buddy. Then, his recklessness leads to disaster and his parents send him to Ryder Bay to separate him from his friends and give him a little perspective.
A well-written book. You can tell that the author knows a lot about teenage angst and their convoluted way of thinking. I can hardly wait to see if Jace can get his act together. I hope he meets Snap Dragon somewhere along the way.

Loved this novella. Jace is a teen struggling to come to terms with his place in the world. His dad has moved overseas and his mum is pregnant and has no time time for him. He is in complete rebellion mode. He comes across an email offering the ultimate rush, however a typo leads him into the hands of SnapDragon. A mysterious girl who understands his pain and frustration and seems to know what he is feeling. There was angst and teenage drama and I cannot wait to see the extended version of what happens to Bass and SnapDragon when they finally get to meet face to face. This was a wonderfully written YA novel. I loved it every step of the way and wanted more. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

I absolutely enjoyed this story! It's more of a prequel to Jace's story that is coming up but it was written really well and I really enjoyed it. We get to know Jace and his struggles throughout this story. We see his insecurities and how close he is to his group of friends. He starts emailing with a girl and they just get each other. It helps them both hold on as things in Jace's world get rocked hard. I loved Jace and am really glad that we got to meet him this way and get to know him prior to his book. It is going to be set in the Ryder Bay series. This book did feel complete within itself and what it was meant to be. Things are not completely tied up and finished but they can't be, his story isn't. It does not end on a cliffhanger. I was not ready for it to be over and I can't wait to get his full story and his happy ending.

Jace is feeling really left out since his parents divorce and his moms remarriage with a baby on the way. He is a thrill seeker and him and a bunch of his friends are doing crazy stuff so he can feel the rush. He sends an email to the wrong person and ends up making a friend that he can tell everything to, as they continue to e mail back and forth they become closer and closer. you have to read the book to find out what happens next, but it is good cant wait for the next book to see where his journey takes him

A beautifully written, absolutely heart-wrenching story that truly felt like a punch in the gut and a knife to the heart, but in the best way possible. The emotion that Jordan Ford elicits from her readers is absolutely astounding, and this was an absolute masterpiece. I can not wait to read the rest of this series. As someone who is not usually drawn to this genre, I am riveted by everything this author produces.

This was a very quick read but it was such a good beginning to Jace’s story. Bass is a teenager struggling on how to fit into life with a new stepfather after being raised by a single mom. He feels left out and finds hope in his emails with “snapdragon”. It took me a minute to realize who snap dragon was but I can’t wait to see how things turn out for them!

A short tale, full of teen angst. The main character feels unwanted by his family, so he acts out. I'm more looking forward to the next book to see how his life changes. Wonder who his email buddy is, will she end up being a romantic interest? Or perhaps she's older. I think I know but I could be wrong.
Entertaining tale by one of my fave authors.

Cute summer reading. A nice easy read for those have an hour or so to relax.
This is the third novella in the series, set in the fictional town of Sterling Beach.
Very emotional read dealing with situations that anyone can find themselves in- extended families are now the norm.
Love the use of emails to get this emotion across. You really feel for Jace, our resident bad boy who is just a messed up teenager looking for affection. The mysterious Snapdragon will help him through this difficult period.

Riptide (Boys Of Summer) novella gives you a sneak peek at what will be the newest character in the Ryder Bay series.
Taking place in the fictional town, Sterling Beach this ya sports romance interlopes two beach towns across state lines. A anomalous twist with a pen pal mystery of who is snap dragon. A entertaining novella with just the right dose of gusto. Looking forward to reading the continuation of Jace & Snap Dragon's flourishing friendship.

I didn't know anything about this book going into it, but I was so glad I read it. I loved how the MC, Jace, was so raw and real, it made his angst and pain so believable. There were times it almost felt like a memoir because the emotions were so spot on that it almost couldn't be fiction.

I also loved the mystery with the pen pal and how that relationship helped him want to be a better person. Although Jace is misguided in some of his beliefs, you find yourself cheering for him to be better and wanting to know more about his life. This is a deep but fun read.
