Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle: Guided Sessions and Practical Teachings

Rate this book
Discover the timeless Presence beyond thought in this collection of meditations from Eckhart Tolle

We tend to think of meditation as a formal practice we block time out for each day. But what if every moment of your life was your meditation?

For Eckhart Tolle, meditation shouldn't be approached as a chore or a means to an end. Rather, meditation is something that you live. "The aim of meditation," states Eckhart, "is that it eventually becomes your normal state of consciousness." Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle points the way toward this quiet, constant state of Presence - where practice gives way to the realization of your innermost identity.

This retrospective collection gathers rare talks and classic meditations from Eckhart's extensive teachings, many of which have only been available to retreat participants. Over the course of eleven sessions, Eckhart leads you in meditations for breaking attachment to the stream of thought, easing suffering, discerning your "formless" self, and embodying Presence in every single moment.

Here Eckhart will guide you in

The power of asking "Who am I?" as an inquiry practice Why Stillness is much more than quieting the unruly mind The true source of all creativity The evocative poetry of Steve Taylor Why awakening is a process of unlearning your assumptions and biases The infinite space hidden between your thoughts Recognizing yourself as embodied Presence rather than an accumulation of narratives Understanding the movement of chi or prana in the body The joyous simplicity of present-moment mindfulness How to rise above the thinking mind rather than sinking below it In Essential Meditations with Eckhart Tolle, you will find not only teachings about transcending the thought-based self, but a direct experience of Stillness itself.

Eckhart Tolle is a German-born spiritual teacher and internationally bestselling author whose work has profoundly influenced the contemporary spiritual landscape. Born Ulrich Leonard Tölle in 1948 in Lünen, Germany, he experienced a transformative spiritual awakening at the age of 29 after years of depression and anxiety. This profound shift in consciousness marked the beginning of his journey as a spiritual guide and thinker. Tolle abandoned his doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge to explore and embody the stillness and presence he had discovered, eventually becoming a spiritual teacher based in London and later in Vancouver, Canada.
Tolle rose to prominence with the publication of The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment in 1997. The book, which emphasizes mindfulness and present-moment awareness, resonated with a global audience and was later championed by Oprah Winfrey, catapulting it to international bestseller status. In 2005, Tolle released A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, which expanded on his earlier teachings and explored the role of ego in personal and societal dysfunction. The book also achieved massive commercial success, further solidifying Tolle’s reputation as one of the most influential spiritual authors of his time.
His teachings draw from a variety of traditions, including Zen Buddhism, Christian mysticism, Sufism, and Hindu philosophy, though he remains unaffiliated with any formal religion. Tolle emphasizes a non-dualistic approach to spirituality, focusing on the importance of presence, inner stillness, and the disidentification from ego-based thinking. His accessible language and calm demeanor have helped millions integrate spiritual practice into daily life.
In addition to writing, Tolle has delivered talks, retreats, and webinars to audiences around the world. In 2008, he partnered with Oprah Winfrey to produce a groundbreaking webinar series based on A New Earth, attracting millions of viewers. He also co-authored the illustrated book Guardians of Being in 2009, further exploring his core themes through the lens of animals and nature.
Tolle currently lives in Vancouver with his partner, spiritual teacher Kim Eng. Together, they continue to teach and support global audiences through online content, publications, and events. Widely regarded as one of the most spiritually influential figures of the 21st century, Tolle’s message of inner peace and awakening remains as timely as ever.

This collection of separate ET mediation related audios is a good companion for ETs teaching library. These audios were taken from talks and private sessions and all relate to different direct pointing ways that the author delivers his teachings. I liked how there are lots of pauses in the audios and time to reflect. These are not formal meditation sessions though, and they are more like quiet reflective talks and satsang which could work for some people. The content is a lot closer to the Advaita style of teaching and free form meditative reflection (vs formal sitting styles like Vipassana etc). While I can’t fault anything with these audios, they need to be taken slowly over time, at some times they may do little to lead the listener into stillness or beingness and actually become quiet monotonous, while at other times a few sentences could hit the spot and lead in to direct presence.

Whenever I tell Alexa to play a book by Eckhart Tolle from my Audible library she opens this one for some reason. So I've listened to it quite a few times even though I own like 15 different books by the author. They are essentially my favorite way of meditating. I'm a huge fan of Tolle's work. I often listen to it even slower than the original recording, which other people have told me to be unbelievably boring, but I love it. It calms me.

Docked a star for diminishing marginal utility from listening to Tolle one too many times, but i needed another dose. Hence.
