*Note: It is supposed to be adult, but I never ran into anything that made it adult.
I had to quit at 34%. I just couldn't continue with this story any longer. There are numerous jumps in the story. These literally occur from one paragraph to the next. There is no flow.
The dialog is stilted. There is no character build, no world build, just 'Stuff' happening willy-nilly.
Three and a half Ok well this is the first in a series and sets up quite nicely for more stories about these shifter princes to come. I enjoyed that each of the four brothers was given a slightly different personality although admittedly we only really spent quality time with two of the brothers. I found the set up for this story quite bizarre as originally there are five brothers but when the eldest ascends the throne the remaining four are automatically banished. So this explains why they are on a ship bound for another planet when they are shot down and end up at a remote outpost where all aliens are considered to be enemies. Luckily there's a plucky medic on hand to rescue Zaruv and help him track down his missing siblings and that's really when this story takes off . Ok I didn't believe in the romance admittedly but the basic premise of the story has legs . The sex is fairly immediate and plentiful and at times reminded me of old SE Smith books about dragon shifting aliens but the ending leaves the author with more stories to write about this world and the characters she has introduced.
I thought I'll be reading about a blue dragon who transform into blue skin human but as the saying says, don't judge a book by its cover.
Anyway, Zaruv is the second eldest son of the decease king, exiled together with his dragon transforming brothers, ambushed and escape to another planet, met a nurse called Jennifer, fell in love with each other, did a rescue mission, confronted the abductee of his brothers, win the fight, celebrated, sent his brothers to home planet, travel to outpost, think and talk... Next book...
I guess that summarize it. I don't know what glued me in with this book, but I guess with its singsong plot or its up and down sequence it makes an easy read. A story that you will not think just read, read and read. I guess it's what is all about to read.
Title: Zaruv Series: Aliens of Dragselis Book 1 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Zara Zenia Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Genre: #SciFi #4Stars☆☆☆☆ •••••••••••••••••••••••• This was interesting I liked it but some parts seem to run on and on, then it would speed up and then it would drizzle down and then speed up so I gave it 4-star for that reason. Prince Zaruv is Dragselis Alien a Dragon Shifter who has four brothers, the King his father dies, it was the ruling for hundreds of years that when the brother becomes king he would exile the rest of his brothers. King Mulkaro took great pleasure in sending his brother's away. They were sent to a different planet with a fancy resort, they would be taking care of them the rest of their lives in the luxury they were accustomed to. Their ship was attacked so they took off in four different pods, hoping they would escape before their ship exploded, they didn't make and the parts were scattered through the planet. the Planet Vaxivian catered to humanoids consequently they were a scared of Dragselis. When Prince Zaruv came too in the free clinic, he enlisted aid from his nurse to find his brothers, sneaking out of town to go look for his brothers. Jennifer is is a humanoid nurse for free clinic when she got word that a ship crashed, she snuck out of the outpost to see if she could be of help bringing back the one person in the pod but she had to sneak him in because the people didn't like strangers. Jennifer's nosey neighbor had turned them in. Would they escape to find the other brothers? Or will they go to jail? Will fate bring them together? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Love the overarching storyline. The alien planet was well described, but was worth no description of their home planet was mentioned. I did find the sex scenes a bit too syrupy with the terms used, but it didn't stop me from completing the book.
Only 1 star. Not enough to round up, but not an angry read either. Still...
The writing. Oh, lord, the writing. It's stilted and simple and feels very amateurish. Word choice is repetitive (how many times did she scream in conversations when she was irritated? Most commonly used verb for her in conversation. Definitely a yeller). Nothing really pulled me in, and I never engaged with the characters. Very little character development. The world building is inconsistent and felt almost totally absent in places. Being able to picture a place well is important, especially in fantasy and sci-fi stories. They aren't set in our normal worlds, right? Overall, felt like it was written by a high school student or a very new writer.
The grammar. Besides the simplistic writing, the commas were killing me. Does no one teach comma splices anymore?? Whole sentences are separated by periods, not strung together with commas. It makes it hard to read and can dramatically affect the flow of the story (and sometimes the meaning). It can be done occasionally for effect, like in a stream-of-consciousness sort of passage, but when it's done throughout, it means someone didn't know better.
Inconsistencies. Ragal was the mellow, easy-going brother when we meet them on the ship at the beginning. Then he's called hot-headed later. So is he or isn't he? Same with the king. He goes from 'a good man but weak' to someone arrogant, mean, and . Even the word for Dragselians was misused at one point.
Insta-love. But not the tolerable kind. Felt very forced.
The cover. H isn't blue, either as a dragon (gold) or a humanoid (tan/olive skin and auburn hair), his hair is long, and his wings aren't feathered. For a striking cover, it's got absolutely nothing to do with the characters in the story. Minor irritation, but still!
With all that, why was I reluctant to give it only 1 star? Well, the premise is actually pretty good. Scattered brothers, worlds at war, plucky human mate in the mix (is she his mate!?) - all of that could have made for a really good read, with enough of the political drama left to bring us into the next book in the series. Not at all what happened here.
In short? Despite the hanging threads of political intrigue left at the end of the book, I have absolutely no interest in the next books in the series.
Very Entertaining Sci-Fi/Shifter Romance. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I'm not one to usually read/listen to Sci-Fi/Shifter genre, but I'm very familiar with the narrator's work and was interested in listening to Tracy Marks performance in this genre, which she didn't disappoint. This was my first experience with Zara Zenia as a writer and found this story very entertaining and leaving me wanting more. I'll either have to read the rest of the stories in this series with my Kindle Unlimited or wait for them to be released to audio. I hope they continue to have great narrators read the books, otherwise I'm afraid they won't be as successful or enjoyable. I started to listen to another Sci-Fi book by this author with my Audible Romance Package membership and didn't finish because I couldn't stand the narrator who wasn't known to me. Using great narrators can be the key to a successful and enjoyable audiobook experience or not. This book is written in both male and female POV's but only have the one narrator performing both. I'm usually not one to enjoy the same narrator performing both POV's unless it's one of a very few narrators like Andi Arndt and Tracy Marks who can pull it off. PSA: This audiobook leaves it open at the end, not with a cliffhanger, but the knowledge that there is more to come for these characters and wanting more. If you like Sci-Fi's or Shifter genre romances, or just love Tracy Marks as a narrator, this is a great listen.
I gave this book 5 stars for several reasons: 1) The world-building was complete and I was never left wondering if I skipped a page or a chapter. 2) The characters each had their strengths and weaknesses. Our heroine was definitely not a limp lily. 3) The story moves along at a good pace. 4) The romance was hot and steamy 5) I now want to read the next book in the series!
When I think back over the book, I will remember how protective Zaruv was towards his younger brothers. Brothers often fight, but these brothers had too much on their minds to waste time with trivial shows of 'manly strength'. He extended his protectiveness first to Jennifer, and then the city, and eventually her small settlement. He gained the trust of strangers easily. The brothers found humor even in dire circumstances. Zaruv enjoyed letting Jennifer be part of the action (unwillingly sometimes).
Even a desert planet can have dangers in both the environment and among its inhabitants. Who betrayed them and sought their deaths when they were willing to go into lifelong exile?
I adore the escapism of Sci-Fi. And this story was a complete story of some length and detail. If you love a mild erotic romance with some mysteries, I think you will LOVE Zaruv by Zara Zenia.
I received this book as an ARC, but the decision to read or not, review or not was left up to me. GO GET THIS ONE FOR YOUR ALIEN COLLECTION!
Zaruv and his younger brothers were headed into a cushy exile on a resort planet, which was their own planet’s tradition once a new king took the throne. It was a long trip in close quarters and the siblings’ nerves were fraying. Then Zaruv spotted unidentified armed ships approaching. They ran to the escape pods as a missile was fired on their ship.
Zaruv’s pod crashed on Vaxivia. Jennifer – a nurse at the clinic -- and the boy who found the pod transported him to Jennifer’s apartment so she could give him medical treatment out of sight of the hostile guards. He realized that if she found out what he was – a dragon – she would be afraid and there could be trouble. But somehow he trusted her and told her who and what he was. Then he asked for her help finding his brothers.
The story line is pretty good, though unusual. Exiling the kingly competition probably makes sense when you think about it! But the brothers are shot down and have to find each other. Can they? Can they avoid the hostility of those on the planet they crashed on? And if they survive, how will they escape to their original destination? Will they find out who the traitor was who sold them out to the enemy? I recommend this book because it’s different and catches the readers’ interest. I am looking forward to the rest of the new series!
I picked this up for free on Kindle and I’m glad I didn’t buy it. Next to no world building, very little character development and once the MC’s realize they love each other (in less than a week 🙄) Jennifer turns a bit clingy and loses her ability to be without Zaruv.
My heart skips a beat “No! I won’t let you go! I can’t be away from you, Zaruv!”
Lady, you’ve known him about 4 days....
While she’s acting like this, Zaruv turns into a p***y/controller. It was hard to listen to him after the “big fight” He wants her to travel across the galaxy to his planet but then says “I know I’m asking a lot. Don’t keep me waiting”. Listen pal you just asked her to completely upend her life for you. You can give her more than 30 seconds to decide.
Another thing that annoyed me was the book didn’t resolve anything. After the “yes I’ll go with you” it just ends. Then the last 20% is previews for 2 of the authors other books 🙁. Bad enough we get a cliffhanger but don’t make it seem like a long book if you’re just going to put filler in at the end. I was in the mood for a fun shifter novel and having not read an alien series in a while I thought I’d give it a try. After finishing it I really wished I’d kept scrolling 😞.

This is a cute, sweet Alpha Alien🐲 Adult Sci-fi novel. It's a fun, sexy, and quick read. I enjoyed it immensely! The XXX scenes are a little hokey, but they get the job done. They are a three out of five in hotness factor. Recommend.
This intriguing Sci-Fi alien dragon romance is a fascinating start to a new series and a enjoyable read. This plot is quite suspenseful & the world building is excellent. The characters have strong, individual personalities and they are realistic with their emotional feelings. There is: alien planets, humans, Infernian aliens, Dragselian aliens, a alien dragon shifter (Zaruv) & his three brothers (Ragal, Pavar & Karun), a caring human female nurse (Jennifer), A devious elder brother & king (Artax), intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, humor, secrets, adventure, action, exile, danger, enemies, threats, a unplanned detour, anger, crash landing, injuries, suspicions, emotional feelings, jealousy, attractions, memories, strange rules, manipulations, discovery, irritations, misunderstandings, betrayal, confrontations, bonding, plans, a cruel ruler (Vega), devious plans, unexpected help, conflict, riots, revenge, doubts, assumptions, suspicions, radio blackout, passion, trust, love & some steam. I look forward to future books in this series & would recommend this alien romance.
I enjoyed this Aliens of Dragselis Book 1. It is off to a great start. This is the weird fate of 4 princes of Dragselis. On their home planet their father has died and the oldest son has become king. The four younger brothers are now exiled from their home. It seems as though a spy has told someone of their route and shot them out of the sky and into escape pods. This is Zaruv the second oldest story. Jennifer is a nurse that runs a free clinic on Vaxivia. She helps keep them patched up on a planet that makes life hard. She volunteered to go there in order to help. She finds Zaruv's escape pod and takes him back to her apartment. Zaruv must find his brothers soon. He talks Jennifer into helping him, and so the adventure begins. This story is well worth reading and I give it 5 stars. "I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy without pressure to do so".
Zaruv and his brothers have been exiled from their home world by their eldest brother, who is the new king. But their trip to their new home takes a wrong turn when they are fired upon. They are separated and Zaruv has no idea where his brothers are.
Jennifer is a medic at an outpost. She is made aware of the crash by a youngster and she gets Zaruv to her home to treat him, out of the way of xenophobic eyes. But he is determined to find his brothers and they set off to locate them. Along the way they meet some friendly and not so friendly locals and investigate the local ruler who may not be all that he seems!
A great twist on the usual stories. Exiling brotherly competition for the throne to a pleasure planet sounds good in theory, but what if the exiling was to become a little more "permanent". Highly enjoyable read and I'd read the rest of the series.
Zaruv (Aliens Of Dragselis, #1) is a Steamy read. Zara Zenia does a wonderful job world building. This action packed story was an unpredictable read that I liked. I've perused Zara's books before and really liked them, but this one seemed to drag a little for me. Jennifer's selflessness and stubbornness, I loved. Zaruv and his brothers plight, I could empathize with and understand. But the emotions weren't really there for me. I WANTED to really get to know Jennifer and Zaruv so I could bond with them and NEED them to be together, and do what they must for his brothers. I just couldn't and, to be honest, that sort of frustrated me.
Will I read more of Zara's books? Of course! She is rockin'! She pulls the reader in and takes them on an amazing adventure with characters that become friends. I think she's an incredible Author.
As usual, this author does a great job jump starting a new series in this genre. Zaruv and his brothers have an unplanned detour. Jennifer is independent and strong and has just enough influence to try to help hide the unexpected alien visitor. Zaruv is totally alpha with a huge tolerance for his mate and she's just the perfect match for a strong alien. Their tale is unique and action-adventure packed which kept me hyped to read what would happen next. This is not a cliffhanger but it did leave me wanting to know what will happen with the rest of the brothers as well as what's really going on on their home planet and how they will figure all that out. I enjoyed reading this interesting & very entertaining story.
Zaruv is a prince he is with four of his brothers his Father the King died and his older brother is in place for King and the other Dragons are going to a planet to be in exile for awhile but they get abused and crash on another planet and is brothers go in different places. Jennifer lives in the outpost and there are not a lot of women more men she is a nurse and keeps people patched up that is when she meets Zaruv and takes care of him and then they go on adventure to find his brothers before something happens to them and he is falling in love with Jennifer as they find his kin exciting and funny and sexy read loved it fast pasted and fun Michelle I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Zaruv, dragon shifting alien prince, and his three brothers are on their way to a luxurious life in exile when their spacecraft is attacked. They crash on a hostile backwater planet settled by humans. Jennifer runs a medical clinic at a remote outpost. When she's told about the crash she goes to aid the survivors. She meets Zaruv , and it's insta-lust. The couple draws closer as they struggle to keep away from hostile humans while searching for Zaruv 's brothers. The complex politics and historical animosity between aliens and humans throws danger in their path, and provides lots of suspense and action, while the steamy romantic interludes keep things hot. Good start to the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review. An exciting action adventure story and romance. Zaruv and his three brothers, Ragal, Pavar, Karun on their way to Artax when attacked by their enemies the Infernians and crashed landed separately from each other on the planet Vaxivia. A little boy from an outpost saw a crash and notified the medic Jennifer. She and the little boy went to the site and rescued Zaruv. He then went looking for his brothers. Jennifer and Zaruv were on a dangerous mission. Spending time together Zaruv realized that Jennifer was his mate. Little did they know that the danger they were in was just not on Vaxivia but back on their home planet Dragselia. What an exciting read I can't wait for the sequel. Highly Recommend
A tradition among Zaruv's people is to ship off any excess family that might challenge a newly crowned king. Zaruv's brother had sent them away for fear that the people of the kingdom would prefer Zaruv to be king. During their flight to another planet, they were attacked by some unknown ship and crashed. Found by some children, they race to tell Jennifer who is the medic for the small anti-alien town. Their adventures as they look for Zaruv's bright and attempt to figure out who is trying to kill them makes up the remainder of the story. To say more would ruin the surprise for you. You need to read it yourself.
2.5 stars. I am not sure to make of this book. The cover indicates one thing and I read a little different thing.
Zaruv, the second son of the king of Dragselis, is exiled together with his brothers on an island, for life. They are attacked and escape in separate pods to a planet. Jennifer, finds Zaruv, saves him, somewhat and they embark on a saving mission on the planet. While at it, they fall in love, find their enemy (one of them), the end.
I wanted to find a better alien story but looks like I failed again. The plot was ok. The love/insta/mating was, ok. The story line was ok. Everything was ok....not much to comment on.
Jennifer is working at the clinic at the outpost when she was told by the son of a friend that a spaceship had crashed in the nearby wastelands. They go to investigate and find a large, handsome humanoid male person. They take him back to her place where he informs them that he was traveling with his brothers and needed to find them. His name is Zaruv and he and his brothers are princes of their planet. Can he find his brothers and will they be alive? Can Jennifer resist the overwhelming attraction she has for this alien man? Read the book to find out what happened.
An intriguing start to a new and interesting series. Zaruv , Karun , Pavar and Ragal, four Alien Dragon brothers are sent into exile by their eldest brother, the king. This book has adventure, action, suspense and love, and although it is a stand-alone of Zaruv and Jennifer's story it does end with a somewhat cliffhanger, as it leaves you wanting to know what happens with the brothers, and questions what's going on on their home planet. I voluntarily reviewed An Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I really enjoyed reading this story. I appreciated that it was a love story at its core, but there was more flesh to it than two people pair up and do it. I enjoyed the building of the relationship and the colorful characters. I give it 4 stars because while I enjoyed the book and remember some thoughts I had about the review, the details didn't stay with me. Honestly, this a well-written adventure love story and I highly recommend it. I wish Amazon would let us do quarter stars off, because this is as close to 5 as you can get!
What a Fabulous story. It is full of action, suspense, drama, and hot romance. Zaruv and Jennifer have a lot of chemistry that combines together quickly. Jennifer at times is a little annoying only because she tries to be more than she is. However, she is spunky and stress the rest is easily overlooked. Zaruv is very much an alpha male who plays his role well. Tracy Mark's narrative is decent but at times sounds like she is trying to hard to make it sound good . Otherwise, she is clear spoken and sounds wonderful. This is definitely worth reading and listening to.
