Why choose just one if she can have them all?Princess Katrinetta is about to embark on her Choosing, a time when every province in Yewforia will select one man to send to Castle Wrenbrook where he will have the opportunity to show his value to the beautiful, intelligent woman who will someday rule the realm. Katrinetta is tasked with the duty of choosing just one man to spend the rest of her life with.
In the realm of Yewforia, a man's highest honor is to please a noblewoman. When that woman happens to be the princess, being a part of the Choosing means everything.
As Katrinetta becomes more acquainted with the Representatives, it becomes clear she can never choose just one of them! Cassius is powerful and knows how to make her laugh. Jate is gentle and shy. Reeve is mysterious... and that's just three of the men who have pledged their hearts to the beautiful princess!
Despite her feelings for the new men she's grown to adore, Katrinetta is also in love with the one man her mother, Queen Rona, would never allow her to be with. When Eliason is blocked from the Choosing, Kit is desperate to find another way to keep him in her life, even if it means defying her mother and the realm.
Realm of the Chosen follows Princess Katrinetta as she embraces the love of her men and establishes herself as a benevolent ruler, one who will vow to protect her people and do what's best for them, no matter the cost.
Full of steamy bedroom scenes, romance, love, and intrigue, Realm of the Chosen is a reverse harem romance for mature readers.
While I appreciate the new and innovative, this premise pushes boundaries, and not in a good way. I'm trying to think of how to review without spoilers (which usually isn't challenging). Let's go with, men are required to provide sex to any woman of the upper classes if they ask for it, poor lower class women have to go about things the old fashioned way. And the guys better do the best job of it they can. The universe rolls on men providing women pleasure. If she didn't make it sound like the guys, for the most part, are all too happy to oblige it would feel kinda rapey. Women rule, men are around to serve in various ways: guards, stablemen, sex partners. The plot becomes extremely predictable pretty early on - sweet heroine, evil person who must be taken down, which guys will be chosen. There are a few hot scenes. Just be prepared to suspend all belief and be ok with knowing what's going to happen for the most part before it does.
I'm a little of two minds about this book. I really enjoyed the cultural set up of a society run by women where men are reduced to objects of desire with little or no purpose in society. Waters' call for equality by taking a closer look at what extremist feminists of our era are saying about men and women and what that could look like in practise is a really meaningful message and I'm so grateful for how well she's done it.
On the other hand, this book could have done with a bit more polishing. There were too many irritating errors for it to be as enjoyable as it should have. But worst of all, the ending was disingenuous. The twist didn't come as a surprise at all. Too much was given away and Kit, the main, character was too passive, brushing off a load of things she noticed but never had the guts/presence of mind to examine more closely. The ending is also cut off because of this fad of creating series. It just didn't do it for me and ruined an otherwise enjoyable read.
First: I did enjoy this series well enough, I just wish there was more depth. While the book was decent enough, it definitely wasn't a book I couldn't put down. It was just a bit slow and quite predictable. Throughout the series, I don't think there were really any moments I was taken by surprise. The heroine is typical, as are many of the heroes (though I do have a soft spot for Cassius). And, for it being a reverse harem, it seems the heroine and the author finds it a bit hard splitting time between the heroes. Be prepared to grow attached to one of two characters each book and then have them be largely ignored. For instance, the first few men introduced I was a fan of, but then the remaining men didn't get enough time for me to really like and there wasn't a lot of appearances by the characters previously introduced.
This is a hard one for me to rate, mostly because I didn't like the FMC. This was third person, which is already a hard sell for me in a romance book, and the only other POV we get is Eli's, another hard sell for me in a romance book. But I could have forgiven that if the FMC was less... naive? Childlike? It was difficult to read about someone being almost forced into lots of sex with strangers who read like a teen. I know she was young, and very sheltered, but she read so juvenile. Blankka and Jecob were so obvious and yet she somehow had no idea? And her other maids never thought to more overtly warn her about either of them?
I'll read the second book because the premise is interesting and it's not one I see a lot of in RH, but none of this really hooked me.
One of the issues I had with this book is that it is labeled as a reverse harem but it didn't seem to be. Any other reverse harem book I have read, the female character has relations with more than one man at a time and that did not happen in this book. While it is a trilogy and it may happen in the next two, I felt a bit mislead.
I did wonder if men are so worthless in this society, why are they even allowed to court the Princess? Why not just pick one to stud her and move on to more important tasks? What happens if a Royal baby is born male? Why are they given such an important job as guarding the Queen and Princess?
XXX! ADULT CONTENT, READER DISCRETION ADVISED. Everybody has hardships. Some are more desperate and life threatening than others. Everybody must live with the consequences of their decisions. Sometimes they are more life threatening or longer lasting than one would expect. Kit is a princess. She lives at her mother's pleasure. One wrong move and she loses her head. Blankka is a maid, jealous of all of the privileges the princess enjoys. Without the queens scrutiny she could live a relatively peaceful, if not hard, life. Who would you rather be, the privileged princess in constant fear of her life or the maid's peaceful hard life?
OMG! I love, Love, LOVE the world Sadie Waters created in this trilogy. A queendom ruled by women where men are valued mostly for their brawn and their ability to pleasure a woman? Sign me up! Where can I get my visa to this magical land? Not only is Ms. Waters’ world wonderful, but her characters are also well developed, lots of great tension and conflict, and the whole series is filled with swoon-worthy sex scenes. I read all three books straight through and then was sad that it was over. My only disappointment was the number of typos, which pull me out of the story. But I still highly recommend the series!
I loved this book-- until I realized Waters was going to pull this excuse for an ending. Then I lost all respect for her as a writer. Not willing to waste more time or money to satisfy a curiosity I am putting off the story, and the author. Don't bother with this book unless you don't mind being manipulated. If so expect to enjoy 🪨 writing, delightful characters with highly individual personalities (except for Mom who's a bit stereotypical) and a slower pace than perhaps is routine.
I thought this book was really well written and engaging from the first. The plot keeps you turning the page until suddenly you're at the end! The characters really have depth. Several times I found myself seething at something the Queen had said or done and had to remind myself it was just a story! I can't wait for book two. Without spoiling anything... you'll know why when you get to the end!
I read the entire book and no reverse harem. I kept hoping to read some great sexy time scenes, at the least. Around 80% thru the book something finally happens. I'm glad the book was free. Very disappointing. And this is only the 1st half of the story, you'll have to by the next book to find out who the princess chooses
Enjoy Yes the story. Two friends who care deeply for each other that know in their heart they can never be together due to circumstances well beyond their control. A vengeful mother and queen who holds all the power to make life miserable for the pair. Complex love story, but what is not complicated about love?
As it was in the beginning so shall it be in the end...Kit and Eli/Princess Katrinetta and Eliason Goedwig...Clearing to Choosing...Commander of the Guard to Newly elected Representative of Eastbury. Wow. Can't wait to read the other 2 books in the series. Loved by the Princess and Ruled by the Princess.
I' haven't ever read a reverse harem story, so this book was incredibly unique and interesting, as well as very well-written! I love romance, and this story is full of emotion and love that is just out of reach, which definitely makes it a book I couldn't put down. I will definitely be reading the next in series!
The story is very well written and I enjoyed reading the book. The characters are well developed and the relationships are given time to grow. There are many twists and secrets to come and I look forward to reading more.
Very nice one, but I felt like the book was too long and we didn't even get to know the guys past their names. The story focused on different guys who wouldn't even turn out to be an important part of the story.
This book is awesome!!!! It mad me cry a little and smile!! Definitely a book that I would recommend be read. Looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
I really love this take on a monarchy and the process of choosing their significant other. I love the story and the characters are wonderfully complex!
