In Forrest Mount verschwinden Schüler.

Picking up a short time after the events of book 1 Revolution finds our group in disarray. They know they need to do something, but are really unsure how to go about doing what they need.
Ollie is struggling with his own insecurity, and also feeling that people are fighting his authority. However, when it counts Ollie shows his potential.
In this instalment Ollie and the Haven are forced to enter Forest Mount in order to try and establish the whereabouts of Jack’s brother. What they discover is a shocking conspiracy to take over the running of the country.
Except things aren’t quite what they seem. The reality is more shocking than we imagine, bu5 it certainly opens up some interesting potential for the next part.
Huge thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this prior to publication.

The second in Simon Lelic’s THE HAVEN SERIES for readers aged 11+ is another fast-paced action thriller filled with high stakes and jeopardy. However, while Lelic does tackle some of the unbelievable developments from THE HAVEN, plenty more emerge in this book and it still suffers from a lack of character depth that leaves side characters as pretty much interchangeable and the antagonists are cartoonishly drawn such that I’m not sure I’d read on.

This is a strong second book in an incredibly underrated middle-grade series – it’s got everything going for it, such that it baffles me as to why it’s not better known (the series and the book!) Even more action-packed than the last, Lelic creates a strong sense of atmosphere and fills the book with enough suspense and cliffhangers to really keep the reader on their toes. Our protagonist (Ollie)’s character undergoes some great development alongside, too, which offers some realism and relatability to the thrilling adventure.
