So when the town womanizer washes up dead in a bone-dry room, Cas is included on the list of most likely supernatural suspects.

If a killer on the loose isn’t enough to deal with, Cascade’s power is threatening to go supernova, the hot guy she’s dating is being super-secretive, her cat-guardian is disappearing on all-night benders, and tempers are flaring bright between shifter and witch citizens.

Crystal Springs is on the verge of erupting. Will Cas survive the rising white-hot flames or be set ablaze by a relentless killer on a mission?

"A Witch Too Hot" earns 5/5 Hot Flashes...Entertaining Fun!

Fifty-years-old and dealing with "hot flashes"? Ok. I can identify, but learning you're a witch...that's just plain cozy fun! Paula Lester/ME Harmon have penned a delightful book in their Crystal Springs Cozy Witch Mystery series highlighting a mature woman's trials and tribulations when discovering she's a witch, a witch with powerful abilities, and control issues. With a third-person narrative, not my favorite perspective, but done well, Cascade Lorne learns of her magical abilities, but the heat she seems to be generating is dangerous, she's at a loss as to how to control her new powers, and she runs into difficulties securing a mentor...case in point: the mud pool! It's more problematic when her neighbor is found dead...drowned in a dry, musty room...she's now a suspect! Although I prefer the cozy murder to occur sooner than it did and there are a lot of extraneous issues that make this book busier than I'm used to, I really enjoyed this book with its vivid descriptions, wonderful and quirky witches, familiars, and shifters, engaging storylines, and dialogue that does well to illustrate mood and personality. Definitely a "hot" thumbs up!

For a late bloomer Cas certainly has style and a truckload of magic.

Plot wise interesting, Graham and Cas's budding romance seemed to be on track, the murder mystery as good as expected, this book was a great read. Hilarious, series and fun, we thankfully find out what type of a witch Cas is at the end of the book.

Can't wait for the next one.

Cascade Lorne was dripping wet and felt like she would self-combust soon! The A/C repair man had told her not to lower the temperature below 66 degrees, but she couldn’t stop sweating. At 50, she has discovered she is a powerful witch. Does she now have to suffer through hormone-induced hot flashes too? As she starts to go outside, her door chimes and she makes her way back to the front door. Her shifter neighbor, Graham Noble, stepped inside and immediately asked about the heat! She was relieved he felt it too! But he thought it had something to do with her powers and she was the one over-heating the house.

A loud crash and grumbling at the back door made Cas laugh as her cat, Echo, came through the new cat door. He agreed with Graham about her extreme temperature, adding that her metabolism may be in overdrive trying to control her magic and not knowing how, in which case she could internally combust! Her succubus neighbor, Mr. Percy, had offered to feed off of her, draining her excess energy until someone can teach her how to control it. But she shuddered at the idea. When she finally agreed in desperation, it seemed to work for her, although she would like have to repeat this periodically at some point. Ewww.

When Cas checked a website to find out about one of the siren candidates she read of in the news, Desi Dewman, the man himself arrived at her door because she clicked on the computer screen. He took her to Mudtown to meet Primo as a possible mentor, but Cas ruined the man’s mud pit and they had to leave.

Graham got tied up at work, so he was meeting Cas at the Fall Fling. She asked Echo to go with her to the old ski lodge where the party would be held. When Graham showed up, a woman was with him, supposedly just the sister of his old friend Ray Feldspar, but Cas was still a bit jealous. They danced until they heard a crash and saw Ray and Sheriff Lloyd in a fight. Graham took Ray and his sister outside while Cas looked for a ladies’ room, finally going up to the second floor to find one. Then she decided to explore the upstairs since it was deserted. As she headed back to the staircase, she stepped in a puddle of water on the floor with no obvious source of a leak until she spotted water running from a closed door. She tried to push it open and found Desi Dewman’s dead body in the dry musty storeroom!

Cas sat with Graham, waiting for Sheriff Lloyd and a few other officers to finish their examination of Desi Dewman. She wondered if the sobbing Auburn Moss, Desi’s lead real estate agent, might be the woman Desi had told her he was meeting? The Sheriff came downstairs and told them Desi had drowned in a dry room; obviously, the work of a water witch. Then he pointedly asked if that was Cas’ element – and strongly suggested she may have committed the murder being upstairs alone with Desi! How can she defend herself? Can she find the real murderer and remove the suspicion the Sheriff dumped on her? Or will she now become the next target of the vicious killer?

This was a fun book with crazy characters that didn’t always act as the reader would expect. It was nice getting to know some of them; and some of them not so nice! But the reader will enjoy the humor interspersed in the story line; and there is definitely enough action going on to keep the reader intrigued. Grab your copy and find out who murdered Desi and why!

I am loving this series. This s book two in a fun, quirky and unusual series, you don't need to have heard book one but I would recommend that you do because if cozy mysteries with a touch of magic is your thing than you are in for a real treat. I love the whole fact the main character is a lot older than the usual teen witch who has just grown into her powers, this adds to the story and really makes the series stand out for me. The cast of characters are fun and varied and include talking cats as guardians, shifter boyfriend, a power draining neighbour and ghosts as administrator and of course different types of witches. This often leads to humorous situations as the main character has no control over her powers. The mystery was good and even though there wasn't very much of an investigation the book still held your attention mainly because you want to find out what Cascades powers are or who wins the election. Really looking forward to the next book in the series and hoping that there are a lot more to come.
Cascade is still trying to get a grip on her powers but things are really heating up. If she doesn't find a mentor soon and learn how to harness the power she could quiet easily blow up. The council is too busy trying to find a replacement for the dead siren and hold elections for the position, to help much other than to send her to see different types of witches. All prove disastrous but not as deadly as attending a party, where Cascade stumbles over the body of one of the candidates. She promptly becomes suspect number one. Then she is horrified to find out her name was put forward and accepted as a candidate for the siren job. She can't control her own powers and up until a few weeks ago she had no idea magic was even possible. Why would anybody put her name forward? It seems that a lot is at steak to get the position and with sides being chosen someone is willing to play dirty to get the right candidate elected. But did they go as far as murder? And if so is Cascade herself in danger? This is not the right time to start doubting what your boyfriend is up to but with him breaking date and having secret meetings Cascade can't help but wonder if he is involved. Can she solve a murder, run for the job of head siren, find a mentor and save her relationship all at the same time avoiding a killer?
I liked the narrator and I am glad the author has stuck with the same reader for both books so far. I like a series to have continuity with the narrator especially when they do such a good job.

There’s No Fury Like A Witch Scorned
Cascade Lorne is a brand-new witch at fifty. Unlike most witches in the town of Crystal Springs, her crazy-powerful abilities are dangerous – and everyone in town knows it.

You know it's a bad day when your witch powers are so out of control, it causes the temperature of the room to sky rocket and your familiar tells you that there is a danger you will explode and disintegrate.
Poor Cascade needs to find a mentor who will be able to help her control her powers and it will also help if she knew what sort of witch she was; air, fire, earth, water?
This is such a fun read that had me laughing out loud.
we follow Cascade through trying to find a mentor, finding out who killed the town womanizer and trying to clear her name as she has been accused of the crime!
I adore the characters as they are so quirky and not what you expect.
Love this story line and plot as it is so much fun.
I can't wait to read more in this series.

As a woman of a certain age, I love that the heroine of this book is a fifty-something, with all that that entails and so much more! Cas has recently discovered that she has magical powers, but she has no idea how to use or control them. Some of her friends in their mixed-magic community are helping a little when they can, but her magic doesn't act or react as anyone expects. The council hasn't been able to give her a mentor because of an important election that they are in the midst of. When one of Cas’ neighbors is found dead, she becomes a suspect. She also has a romantic interest and wants to run for siren (that election I talked about). To say that Cas has a full plate is an understatement. Her talking cat, Echo, is meant to be her guardian, but he spends a lot of time away.

As you can tell, this is a busy book! In fact, I think it is a little too busy. The murder doesn't happen until the 30% mark, which doesn't give a lot of time to develop the intricate subplots necessary for a good cozy. A lot of time is spent on the political aspect of the story, which is an intriguing look at the politics of race and disenfranchisement. The book is actually well written and engaging, as I was drawn right into Cas’ world and all the things that were upsetting her figurative applecart; I just thought that too much was going on that didn't have to deal directly with the mystery or Cas herself.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

At 50, what female raised among humans would expect that the cutsey habit of calling hot flashes “power surges” could really turn out to be a literal thing? Poor Cas.

Dealing with her own gigantic powers, as well as some extreme turmoil in witch / shifter relations, leaves her very hot, vulnerable, and targeted by special interests groups.

Charming Graham seems to be too stereotypical, even if he is distracted by trying to help his friends, he clearly has not made Cas a priority. He seems bigoted, pre-occupied, and not really worth her time as a beau. Honestly what is wrong with good looking males of any species not spending time on a date focused on that date? If he is too busy focusing on “important “ things and people maybe he should be spending time with them, and Cas could spend time with folks actually interested in making time for her.

Being caught at the short end of the broom seems to be leaving Cas as a big target with unreliable skills to protect herself- and limited skills to protect other from her.

A continuing bumpy road to whatever is next for Cas!

Getting more bang for your money

A quick read that has everything - a murder, a cat who spends more time on the tiles than at home, a Council election, a disgruntled population, a Sheriff who is more interested in getting his own way than justice and a witch who lends a new meaning to "having a hot flush". Some humour, some seriousness and the search, we all contend with, to improve ourselves and our strengths. Loved the images of a cherry soda tidal wave or a volcanic eruption that spews yellow fluffy balls.
She's still waiting for a mentor but it looks as if that is on hold until after the Council election takes place. A date out with Graham leads to her finding a dead body, seeing his attention becoming wrapped up in a beautiful young woman, knowing her element isn't earth and being firmly placed on the suspects list by the Sheriff. As she learns more about her community she finds herself placed as a candidate and learning she not an water or fire witch but also she finds out more about the dead man and the people around her. Will her new knowledge draw the attention of the killer? If so can she defend herself with her baby efforts at magic? What type of witch is she?

Cascade Lorne is having problems keeping her untamed magic at bay and her body keeps heating up. Just what the brand-new fifty-year-old witch needs. Everyone knows her powerful abilities are dangerous and that she is in need of a mentor to help her learn the tricks of the trade. But she soon discovers that she isn’t having any luck when she fails the earth, water, fire, and wind witch tests.
After being invited to a party of a super-rich realtor running for high siren, Cas finds the womanizer dead from drowning in a bone-dry room. The police think it is a water witch extracting revenge, but Cas seems to also be on their radar as she discovered the dead body.

Somehow Cas finds herself added to the siren race and must now try to uncover a murderer. Things are not easy as she finds her boyfriend super-secretive and her familiar disappearing and returning the next morning quite drunk. Who can she turn to get her powers in control and helps solve the murder mystery?

With a touch of whimsy and humor, a handful of quirky characters, some turmoil and romance, and lots of madcap adventure, I found this to be a perfect little cozy mystery.

A new witch at fifty and with powers she has yet to control have got Cas worried. Throw in a new shifter romance, well sort of, a talking cat and everyone wanting to find out which kind of elemental witch she is. Then someone nominates her to be on the governing council and oh yah, she finds a dead body. Being the main suspect does not help at all.

This book is simply fantastic. It is a paranormal Witchy mystery and so.much more. The characters are extremely well developed, interesting, personable and with unique flaws. The story line is smooth, easy to read and keeps you involved until the last page. It is surprising, witty and laugh-out-loud hilarious. The situations Cas are creative and unique that make you wonder what is coming next. The mystery is complex, full of twists, turns and intrigue. Cas grows and develops both her magic and sense of self. This story is delightful, it is also well thought out and well written. The imagination and creativity of the authors is evident in the how well written the story is. I can not wait until the next book in this great series.

I loved this book as much as the first! I love that this is not a young woman, I love the challenges that come with being an (ahem) older new witch, the challenges faced by cascade are different, than with books in this genre with the young character, Being of a similar age to Cascade I can relate (as much as one can to a fictional witch sleuth!)
I love the relationships she is building, even with Graham being seemingly sneaky and not entirely honest, she takes no prisoners she is not to be walked over! She was afraid of the creepy Mr Percy but has come to realise their is more to him, the same with echo, echo being her guardian, well as much as a talking cat can be a guardian!
It was fun to see Cascade trying to find her element, the water element incident being my favourite I think!

This is a great series, it has great humour and tight writing I highly recommend it!

My ad to become a witch:
Over 50, know difference between hot flash and power surge. Do not know what type of witch I am. Will need teaching also. How do I apply? Please?!

Now take this book and add a murder equals a fantastic read. If you like cozy mysteries with a bit more edge then this is for you.

I can honestly say that you can read this book without having read the first. There is just enough hints to let yo follow the story just fine. (I am not sure that the same may be true of the next book though - will have to wait and see.) I eventually plan as you will to go back and read the first. I want to know why she got her powers so late in life. Also what is the actual relationship between her and her sister (half). Also maybe the definition of a guardian will be there.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

Cas is a witch who is a real late bloomer- she came into her powers at 50, is extremely powerful, but cannot control her power. To not burn up with it, she has a succubus feeding of her from time to time. In this story she is trying hard to find a mentor while at the same time someone put her up for the election of one of the witches, who govern all of Crystal Springs. And as if this would not be enough - she also tries to find the murderer of another candidate to the election.
A busy story-line , but it works well put together. the story is really entertaining, with a few surprises and some unusual characters.

Cascade Lorne didnt find out she was a witch until she turned 50 - and although everyone says that her powers are exceptional, she has little control over them. When someone nominates her to go up for election as a siren - and she is made a murder suspect, she knows she must do all that she can to learn the control she needs - and to find out what really happened. But who can she trust? Graham who has asked her out seems to be involved with Lumar - and Cas doesnt know where to go for the truth! Will she find it? I loved this story - it made me smile!

Middle age woman gets witchy powers. Cas is 50 and finds out she is a powerful witch. She does have a problem though, well a few actually, first she can't control her powers, making her body put out heat in her surroundings that is unbearable. Second, the council is too busy with an election to assign her a mentor to teach her how to control these new powers. Third, there is a murder, and Cas is a suspect. Did I mention Echo?, lol, he is her familiar but isn't around much. Do things work out for Cas? You will have to read to find out, be prepared to laugh.

Cas is burning up...like heating an entire house, burning from the inside out...burning up. Her magic is cycling out of control and she doesn’t get a handle on it soon...poof! She’s led to different mentors, but...mess after mess. Then someone is murdered. Drowned in a dry room.

I loved this book. I especially loved that the witch in the story was in my age group and not a teen just doing into her powers and going through all the stuff associated with teen angst. I understand hot flashes all too well! Lol! Can’t wait for the next book!

Magical Mayhem Mystery

Cascade is adjusting to the shock of receiving full magic at 50. She and Graham are involved, she is friends (of a sort) with her succubus neighbor and she doesn’t tolerate magical bullies.

When another death occurs as she is searching for a magical mentor to help her find her path and speciality with the elements, she is determined to find the killer while somehow ending up on the town ballot to run for Council - though she didn’t sign up!

But magical mayhem tends to follow Cascade everywhere and this is more of the same. An entertaining novel with engaging characters, and an absolutely worthwhile read

At the young old age of 50, Cascade discovers she is a witch - now she must learn to control her powers. Throw in a dead body, a mystery, some romance, politics, and race relations and you have an awesome book! THis was the first book in the series that I read and I did not feel lost as there was plenty of information given throughout the story. I will, however, go read the first one in the series as I want to know what exactly happened.

Cas finds her powers overwhelming and she hasn’t learned to control them yet. The Council is too busy with election activities to assign her a mentor. Between hot politics, hot powers, and hot flashes, finding answers to troubling new developments, Cas may even find her life in danger. A Witch Too Hot was very enjoyable and I recommend it.

A newbie witch at 50 years old, Cascade has strong powers that she can’t control. When she discovers a body she is a suspect in the murder. She needs to find out who really killed Desi to clear her name, while being nominated to run in an important election. I loved it! While it was great as a stand alone, I want to read the first book too! ! I’m looking forward to the next one!

Poor Cascade can’t catch a break in magic or love. This is a good series and the characters are awesome. Although, this is a witch book, Mr. Percy is my favorite character. He’s not a main character, but he grew on me. I absolutely love Echo. He’s a hoot and I hope to find out more of his story. I would recommend this book to anyone who love supernatural cozies.

Cascade Lorne gets her witch's powers at the age of fifty and has no idea how to use them or what she is able to do. This book takes you on great ride and the mystery takes so many turns that you are never see coming that I had a very hard time putting this book down. This is the second book in the Crystal Springs series and I can wait to see where book three takes us. It was a great read.

Hope for us middle aged gals!

Cascade is on the cusp of life. Newly divorced and soon to be fifty, is she at the end or just getting started? Everything changes when her hidden magic is unlocked. But her magic is an untamed colt, kicking and bucking and trying to toss her to the ground. I really like this series. Getting ready to dive into the 3rd installment!
