Sora Burge doesn’t have any fight in her anymore. After breaking the most important shifter law, she knows her fate is in the Tarian Pride’s hands. She’s counting down to the trial, but something is coming for her. Something she never thought possible. When Ford Owens, the man she used to love, shows up, she can’t believe what he’s become. Something killed the human in him, and now he’s a terrifying monster who will take on the entire Tarian Pride to keep her safe. But how safe is she, really? Because Ford doesn’t have any control over the animal he’s become.
Ford Owens had carved out a stable life in the mountains away from everyone. Work, eat, sleep, Change, Change, Change, hunt. But when a call from his past comes back to haunt him, he’ll have to venture out of his mountains and to the aid of a lioness he used to know. He’s not the man he was. In fact, he’s not a man at all anymore. And that first terrified look on Sora’s face says she knows he’s unsalvageable now. But if his mistakes are to mean anything, it has to be to help the girl he used to love.
Because she doesn’t know the dark deeds he’s done…but it was all for her.

T.S. Joyce is devoted to bringing hot shifter romances to readers. Hungry alpha males are her calling card, and the wilder the men, the more she'll make them pour their hearts out. She werebear swears there'll be no swooning heroines in her books. It takes tough-as-nails women to handle the shifters of Bear Valley.
She lives in a tiny town, outside of a tiny city, and devotes her life to writing big stories. Foodie, bear whisperer, ninja, thief of tiny bottles of awesome smelling hotel shampoo, nap connoisseur, movie fanatic, and zombie slayer, and most of this bio is true.
Bear Shifters? Check Smoldering Alpha Hotness? Double Check Sexy Scenes? Fasten up your girdles, ladies and gents, it's gonna to be a wild ride.
Oh. My. Lord. I don't think I have ugly cried this much in a long, long time. Ugly cry. Like someone died crying.
If you read further, you will get potential spoilers. You've been warned.
It starts out on Sora's termination day. None of the New Tarian pride want to kill her, but she's not making Ronin's job any easier by giving him an out. Giving him a way to let her escape death. She's a broken woman who has accepted her fate. She only turned Katy because she wanted her to have what she had with the love of her life. Just as the end begins, a monster roars into her life and changes everything.
Ford has become a monster. A Dark Lion who cannot be controlled. Cannot be tamed. Cannot even be around another male without the killing instinct overcoming him. When Sora's brother reaches out to him to tell him it's now or never, he doesn't hesitate. He rides in like death on wheels and lets the entire Lion world know - Sora's death isn't happening, but yours is.
If I have to be your fucking backbone until you find your own way again, okay. And if it makes you hate me in the process? I'm okay with that too.
I celebrate the day I discovered T.S. Joyce. She has become the one author that I don't even have to know what the story is about - I'm reading it. 10 stars wouldn't be enough praise for this story.
With Sora's actions in the last book I was very excited to read this one. I hated how this one opened, with Sora having no hope and not taking the help her Pride really wanted to give her. It's a good thing her brother took things into his own hands and brought the secret weapon, Ford.
Ford brings his own brand of broken, but somehow the two of them together manage to not only fix themselves, but find a way back to a real life, one where there can be people around.
I loved how this one ended, from the battle to the declarations, to the serene nature of the pictures helping all of the ladies see their inner strength!
I love this author! I think I’ve read almost every book she’s written and will continue to do so in the future. This story of Ford and Sora just made my heart flutter and brought tears to my eyes. I have wanted Sora’s story for awhile and I am not disappointed. Broken beautiful people! ❤️
Oh my god woman you did it again. I don't know how you come up with these situations but you never fail to capture emotions we have all felt at some time or another. Your stories bring us into them keeping the reader on the edge of their seats to see how it's going to come together. Some of the quotes are so poignant they get you in the heart. Can't wait for the next instalment.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. Ford gives great pep talk and Sora is a damn good match for him. I'll eventually read the rest of the series - thankfully this book tells you enough about the past to not be lost without spoiling all the plot points of the previous books in an overly long recap.
The story of one beast of a lion and a broken lioness. Shes given up, but he hasn't. Fixing her is his job and he won't let her bail or fail. She thinks she's being rebroken...the question is for better or worse?
T.S. Joyce has been able to give us a book that shows the different sides of strength. She brings characters that I wish were my neighbors to life and let’s us see good and bad, broken and whole. I love this book and can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Favorite of the Tarian Pride series so far. Sora and Ford's individual and united stories of healing were touching and profound. They're a special couple.
Good resolution for both Sora and Ford -- at some points, I wasn't sure how they'd make it through all their darkness, so good job pulling it together!
I love this author and her shifter series. They are rough funny and raw. No candy coating and I'm always impatient for the next one. Perfectly imperfect
Ford Owens had ever loved one woman and when he lost her, he was never the same again. Now he was living a quiet life without any connection to his past. But one phone call from his old friend and the brother of the woman he loved, Orion Burge changed everything.
Sora Burge, a former Queen of the Old Tarians. Now she's a part of the New Tarian Pride, she was once a strong and fierce Lioness. But after what she went through at the hands of Cassius, she was broken and scared. She did something that was against pack laws, she turned, Kannon's mate, Katy (TARIAN OUTCAST).
Her act was punishable by death, yet her Alpha Ronin (TARIAN ALPHA) let her live. No one in the pride wanted to harm her, she was ready to face the consequences of her actions but the fates had other plans for her. At her trial when all seemed like it was the end, someone from her past came along. The one she ever loved, Ford Owens.
He wasn't human anymore, he changed and his inner beast was a monstah. Both Ford and Sora were not the same people they were before. They were both broken but the love they had for each other was still there. He help her and her Lioness find back their will to keep fighting.
He was her shield against anyone and anything that were out to hurt her. Even against her father who only saw her as a pawn. Loved the bond between Sora and the rest of the women of the New Tarian Pride.
When Sora's father and his Deadlies Pride came looking for her, they underestimated Ford and the New Tarian Pride. Much to their undoing. The newly mates overcame their demons with each other's help as well as with the love and support of the Pride. They got their HEA.
TARIAN PROTECTOR is the fourth book in T. S. Joyce's NEW TARIAN PRIDE series. What a beautiful, intriguing and emotional rollercoaster ride. Wonderful job by T. S. Joyce. 5++++
There have been stories set in the Damon’s Mountains Universe that broke my heart – TARIAN PROTECTOR not only broke my heart it ripped it out of my chest and oh, so slowly healed me back better than before. I don’t even know how to convey the emotional impact this story has on so many levels so I won’t try I’ll just let you discover the shattered souls of Sora and Ford for yourself.
If life had been kinder to them in their youth Sora, a lioness shifter and Ford, a human might have finished their happy ever after lives by getting married and living in peace. But life isn’t always kind and they were torn apart by a power-hungry father and a mad leader who knew no end to the cruelties he could inflict on the members of his Pride or others. The Sora that Ford once knew was slowly replaced by a woman he wouldn’t recognize – and the man Ford once was has been taken over by his Dark Lion after being changed. But the heart knows its true mate and even when Ford had isolated himself from the world when Sora needed him he was there for her. The funny thing about being a savior, you’ll often find yourself saved as well whether you intended for that to happen or not.
I have loved getting to know the true members of the New Tarian Pride, the real Pride not those who hide within and do damage from the inside out. The Tarian Pride showed their true colors in TARIAN PROTECTOR and I enjoyed every heartbreaking, healing moment of my time with them. If you love not only a good Shifter Romance but a touching, emotional, heartwrenching romance as well then you’ll want to pick up TARIAN PROTECTOR. You will not be disappointed.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
As always T.S. Joyce has did it again....this book was really good. In fact this whole Tarian Pride series is phenomenal. The author has a way of making you invest in all the characters and their HEA's. I hated the Tarian Pride from past books. They always seemed irredeemable and cruel and I had no vested interest in seeing them evolve. But now that we have the New Tarians and the 'Old Tarians' and Council are dead.....I'm excited to see their progression into something new, something more than what they have been allowed to have.
Ford and Sora story was heartbreaking but vital. The world is a cruel mistress and we have to take the good with the bad. But what if the bad out ways all the prior good? What if death seems a better alternative than living in constant numbness? What if the darkness is all you crave and the sunlight turns to poison on your skin? That was Sora's life until Ford remined her of her worth. He showed her that her presence is enough. He didn't try to fix her, coddle her, or even placate her. He just put her in front of a mirror and told her to choose herself.
I cant wait for Orion's (Sora's brother) story....I hope his mate is Annamora!!
This is the fourth book in this series. While they can be read as stand alones I think they are better read in order. Sora broke a huge rule in the last book. She turned someone against their will. She had the best of intentions when she did it but that doesn’t change what she did. No one wants to punish her but she is at the end of her rope and doesn’t want to live anymore. That is till someone from her past shows up and she is forced to face how she feels. Ford loved Sora once. She is still the love of his life. He gave up everything for her and still doesn’t have her. Sora and Ford aren’t the same anymore. Can they help each other get better and find a way back to each other? The new tarian pride maybe find themselves in another fight. I love this book. Really, I love all of T.S. Joyce’s books. All the books go together like one big series. By now I am so invested in these characters and they are fantastic. I can’t recommend this book or the series enough. They are must reads for sure.
T.S Joyce has a way of making her character's soar. She writes broken in such a unique way. There is no words to describe the turmoil her characters go through. The men are Monsters, but their women are able to handle that darkness. The females are seemingly destroyed but their men give them the inner strength they need to put themselves back together. I have never read someone who can do broken and stability like T.S Joyce.
Sora and Ford are no different. I absolutely adored how Ford even though his monster was strong put everything on the line to save Sora from herself, to be the pillar of strength she needed to get stronger. And I loved how Sora got strong enough to make Ford want to be better himself. There is no better thing than their bond, I felt the emotion poored into their story.
While they weren't my favourite T.S Joyce couple, Grayson & Genevieve hold that title, however, Sora and Ford definitely have massive heart and a deep bond that was never broken and has stood the test of time. Second chance's are for everyone.
Well this is more like it from this author. I finally feel that these New Tarians will be an amazing pride and will show the lions how to have better lives going forward. Without the antiquated ways and laws that abused and bullied the lion shifters, both for the decent males who wanted better and the females who were used like bargaining chattel. A gripping read, full of emotions both past and present, angst, hurts and redemption, all bought to a culmination in blood and bonding. Very interesting how Ford and especially his dark lion behaved at the end. Glad Sora and Orion’s father and their old pride are dealt with. Poor Ford. His lion was obviously going rogue due to not having Sora in his life. Dark Lion, a fitting name. Nice to see Sora get her spirit back and I was glad she didn’t go back to her old self but became a new her, the perfect match for Ford and his alter ego Dark Lion. Terrence’s actions ware no surprise, no wonder he was always causing unrest. Read through Kindle Unlimited.
TS Joyce is one of my "Pause everything else and read her latest now" authors. She never fails to deliver laughter...and sometimes tears. The Tarian pride is a little less "funny" than Damon's Mountains, but it is amazing in other ways. The characters are troubled and they're struggling to rise from the ashes of a fallen, broken, and traumatized pack.
Sora and Ford loved each other a lifetime ago, before Sora was sold to the alpha, Cassius, of the Old Tarian pack. She was used, abused, and almost destroyed. After turning a human against their wishes in New Tarian Pride #3, she faces trial and being put down. Her brother Orion reaches out to the only person he thinks can help her...and help her heal. Ford.
Ford thought Sora was lost to him forever. He was a human turned lion, and the last thing he has is control. But when Sora needs help, he doesn't hesitate.
In the end, these two rekindle their romance and heal each other's broken heart.
Tarian Protector is the fourth book in the New Tarian Pride series, and the best of the series so far. Sora is a lion shifter who was in love with Ford, a human, until her father traded her off to another man for an alliance. Sora has always regretted her decision not to change Ford and run away with him. Years later, Ford shows up to save Sora and she realizes he’s not the same man she remembers.
I loved how protective Ford was of Sora and how he pushed her to become the woman she once was. He gave her the confidence she needed and believed in her when she deserved it the most. Underneath her shield, Sora was still a strong person who just needed a little help remembering how special she was. Once Sora started getting better, she was able to see that Ford needed her too. Both Ford and Sora were broken, but together they began to heal each other.
I loved the sweet ending, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book about Sora’s brother Orion.
I’m looking at a woman who ain’t done yet. You’re still alive, still breathing, and as long as that’s happening, it’s on you to find your fight.
Oh my gosh. This story was terrifyingly beautiful. My heart broke and was glued back together. I absolutely loved Sora and Ford. This is my all time favorite couple. Sora was sold for an alliance between packs. Sora had a bond with a human but that's not aloud in the lion prides. Ford became the monster that they feared he now lives in hiding because of the monster inside him. Only one person could bring him from his seclusion. Sora! This time though his Sora is just a shell of the woman he used to no. He will help her get strong again then he will leave her to live a better life. But it's never that easy when they come for her it will take the whole pride to keep them safe including the dark lion!
Every time i read one of TSJoyce’s books i think, this is the best one she’s ever written. Then she goes and writes the next book! Like all of her books this one is an emotional roller coaster. There’s heartbreak, anger, kindness, betrayal and love.
Sora, one of the rescued lionesses from the Old Tarian Pride was sentenced to death for turning a human at the end of the last book. But she’s so hopelessly broken all she wants to do is die, she’s counting down breaths until they come to kill her. Her brother Orion is trying to give her the will to live again, so he contacts the old love of her life in the hope that he can save her.
Ford, Sora’s lost love, and former human now monstrous out of control lion comes riding in, not a second too soon on a mission to save her. But he’s going to need to save himself as well.
Wow!!!! This story is a page turner literally from the very beginning. I really didn't see Ford coming but I am so happy he is here!!!! Sora is a broken lioness ready to die at the hands of the New Tarian pride, despite been given many chances to scape. The last thing she expected was Ford, the man she lost long time a go to came to her rescued. This was a breathtaking story with the fantastic epic introduction of Ford in Sora's life and the epic introduction of Ford as a member of the New Tarian pride. Freaking awesome book!!! Packed with action, tension, betrayal and hot red romance. My favourite book in this series so far. But please don't take this flaky sentence as a disregard to the other books because I tend to proclaim the same every time I finish reading any book from T.S.Joyce. Highly recommended
So this afternoon I fell on the woodenstairs and bounced down them on my tailbone, somehow holding onto my coffee cup but throwing the coffee up into the air to cover the stairs, the walls, the ceiling, both landings, the railing, my body, my face and my hair. After spending the rest of the day in the ER to make sure I hadn't broken anything (nope!), I was a tad grumpy.
Then, my day was saved! I opened my kindle to find something to distract me from my woes and was alerted to a new release from TS Joyce. Hooray!
Joyce's books never fail to entertain me. There are times when life calls for a full immersion into cute- sexy- funny- romance- adventure brain candy. This author will never know how many of life's trials she's gotten me through. Thank you. :)
I wasn’t planning on reviewing these books at all, but given the fact that I’ve been completely OBSESSED with them for the past month, it feels wrong not to write something. So in the end I decided to write a general series-wide review that I’ll put up on each book because that’s how much fun I’ve had reading these.
OKAY listen. These books are straight up trash. They are. Romance drama trash to the max. But there’s no denying how freaking entertaining these things are. They’re hilariously funny, extremely cute, filled with action (some more than others), and packed with grade-A soap opera drama. Some of the novels are better than others, but if you need to go brainless for a while and just read something fun, these are the books you need.
All the characters are out-of-this world awesome, but the real thing that sets this series apart is the world building. Joyce has created such an elaborately rich universe with all these characters and I am 100% here for it. I love love love how everything overlaps and that we get to see all of our favorite characters even long after their books are done.
To help keep everyone straight, I even created a family tree spreadsheet like a NERD (Willa would be so proud) which you can view here. Just beware of spoilers.
FINAL WORD
These books are insane trash and I’ve loved every second. If you’re needing some laughs and romance, look no farther my friends. It’s worth the Amazon Kindle Unlimited free trial just to get your hands on these.
This MFC is dealing with some serious trauma. She moves forward through some tough love from the MMC. I might have liked to see more compassion for the abuse she had gone through but she finds herself in the end.
I like that this pride is changing the whole world of lion prides.
This was my favorite interaction. For a MFC that has been as mistreated as this one, safety is the key,
“Make her feel pretty, cared for, and special,” Rose rushed out. “How about I make her feel safe, safe, and a little more safe? I’ve got one trick. That’s me maxing out.”
And this declaration of love,
“I don’t care about lion rules, Sora. I care about you. Literally…fuck everyone in the entire world but you.”
And this statement works in RL too,
“No more leniency on men who treated women like mud just because it was tradition.”
This KU library selection is Sora's story and it begins with her Death Day, a result of her turning a human against her will. But Sora's brother has managed a life line for her by calling an old friend, Sora's purple line, a monster who was once human. Ford Owens once loved Sora, back when he was human, before she was sold by her father into an arranged marriage with Cassius, the now deceased alpha of the Old Tarrian Pride. But since then Ford's become a monster with an uncontrollable black lion who can't be around other males without trying to kill them. So he lives alone, isolated, until he gets a call from an old friend about the one female he cares enough about to risk everything.
Every book in this series is great but i have to say this is my favorite! Ford and Sora are everything to me and my heart broke and melted and then got put back together again with these two! Poor Sora was just about to give up on life when Ford the only one whose ever had her heart shows up. He shows her that shes stronger and more resilient than she knows and will not give up on her. She too tells him that shes not giving up on him or them. I really loved these two and everyone in the Tarian Pride so much. Just absolutely love the fact they both are stronger than they realize with each other and the entire pride behind them!!!!
Wow waiting for Sora and Ford’s story was totally worth it! Completely enthralled the entire time and couldn’t put the book down. I think we all go through obstacles in life but rising through it and the person we’ve become and developed into is who we were always meant to be. What Sora and Ford has to go through in order to come together in Tarian Protector is life... I was moved by one particular quote in the book “don’t know where you hide your wings, but I want to spend the rest of my life finding out.” Ford You will never be disappointed choosing to read any of T.S. Joyce’s books! They get better every time I reread them.
