I see my other lives, a career in the Marines, those damn hand-written tests in law school, a business consultant, as if they're stories from a book. I see my books as if I lived there, as if I were friends with the characters. All things we remember are behind us, only those we imagine lie before.

I'm not sure which place I prefer, but I don't have to choose. They live together in my mind. My books have some award nominations, they have bestseller tags across multiple countries. I write about justice, honor, and loyalty because that's what I care about. My stories are mostly set within worlds that haven't been, but could be. We have to be ready for when those times come.

No matter where I went, I always had a book with me. Thanks to 21st Century technology, I now have hundreds of books loaded on my phone and always with me. This breakthrough allows me to binge read my favorites. How many books would I have read on deployments had I not had to have a physical book with me? I paced myself so I wouldn't finish too quickly.

We aren't encumbered like that now. I love the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. I have been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, I aspire to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared me to.

Through a bizarre series of events, I ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. My wife and I get to watch the northern lights from our driveway. Our dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach fifty below zero. We have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.

It's all part of the give and take of life. If we didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

Departure from the norm…

This books sees TH and Char on vacation while the rest go on to a “parade”. Lots of action in CM was definitely channeling Start Trek vibes with this vacation.

Discovery: A Military Space Opera (The Bad Company Book 6) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Look out KU - the Queen Bitch is back and she's got company - apart from the eponymous Bad Company, that is!

Twin themes involving THW and Char's (literal), adventure holiday that soon becomes vastly less than relaxing, plus a bonus plot line revolving around Bethany Anne's arrival, (to mete out justice across many galaxies and the wider Universe she rules with her sword of justice) and the younger Bad company members' assistance in an urgent, but separate, mission at hand in their parents' absence, creates a fabulous, engaging, thrilling all-action space drama.
Craig Martelle and Michael Anderle, the fabulous twin Princes of the Military Sci-Fi/Supernatural Fantasy Universe, have surpassed themselves (yes, I know it should be impossible, but nevertheless...) they've done so, yet again.

According to Craig's Author's Notes (yes, I DO always read them), this book can be a standalone, especially for new readers, and I can totally see why but, for me, it made perfect sense that TH and Char were going off for a romantic vacation, as the suggestion was aired between them in the previous book.

As an aside, I'm really proud of myself for remembering this, as I have crazy memory problems, so Yay! I'm sure it's the love of these books, and especially these characters, that help there!

Anyhoo, back to my review, and I really loved the premise of this story. It could only ever happen to TH and Char, that their romantic getaway turns into a fight for their lives and, in typical TH fashion, he chooses brute strength to try and escape. Lol

I really loved the sub plot with Christina in control of Bad Company while the Bosses are away, and was as impressed as TH in her details of being prepared for anything and, as is their wont, that came in very handy when the bombs blew!

I don't know what it is about TH and Char that I love so much, but they are definitely on an equal standing with BA and Michael, as far as I'm concerned - and having BA in the story was a real bonus for me!

The ending was a typical Bad Company effort, and was dealt with quickly, efficiently, and with the kind of flair that only those trained by TH could evoke - I loved it all, and can't wait for the next episode!

But, as usual, while looking at my reading list, I see that this will have to wait, as my next read takes me back to the Main Series, which is book 25 or, alternatively, book 4 of The Kurtherian Endgame: All's Fair in Blood and War!

I do love that play on words! Lol

I'm quite happy about this book, as it'll bring me back to BA and Michael again, and I can't feel any happier than I do now 😁

This Bad Company novel tells two stories, skipping from one to the other. One story involves Terry and Char going on what is supposed to be a nice vacation. They go exploring and end up underground in some kind of facility that is large, difficult to figure out how to escape and comes with enough threatening things to keep them quite busy just trying to survive.

The description of the place is really good and I really like the story of the things they face together and how they have to figure out just what the heck is really going on and how they can escape it.

The other aspect of the story involves Bad Company members being invited to a celebration of a ruler on another planet. It's pretty obvious that the invitation is not as simple as it seems and that the group is going to have to be ready for anything, including violence. I like the way they handle that and how they get two factions to try to reason with each other.

Really good book.

This was an interesting, multi faceted story that gave us the chance to see how the Bad Company can show Honor, Courage and commitment without TH Walton leading the way. Of course, the qualities that TH made important to his troops all the way back to the beginning of the FDG are much in evidence within all of the members of Bad Company!

So while TH and Char have a vacation that’s very different from what they expected, Cory, Kae, Kimber & especially Christina prove how much they have absorbed from their training. They also demonstrate their critical thinking skills in order to deal with their usual issues when they find out that the intelligence given to them before the mission was seriously flawed.

They then go on to do what all well trained soldiers or Marines do. They adapt, improvise and overcome the obstacles in their way!

Enjoyed this great return to TH and crew! ☀☀☀☀☀

This was an awesome return and reminder of why and how the individual characters have been such an important part of making both the Nomad series and The Bad Company series best sellers. Loved the separate stories that worked together in building towards the climaxes. Was a little disappointed that Tony wasn't able to return with TH, think he might have given Ted some competition. Lol 😉 also looking forward to the next Bad Company adventure!

Different

I’m not sure if I liked this book or not it leaves me with more questions than answers which is not necessarily a bad thing but anticipating a “war” training for it making new uniforms all while terry and char are on vay/cay then falling into a self sustainable fall out shelter that wats to kill them this might just be a little to much of a stretch but all of that said if lime to k ow BA’s true role so... it definitely did what a book is supposed to do open you up to more?’s

A vacation to remember

TH and Char are on vacation it turns into a trial for survival. They have the advice of BA (or do they) to help them through. Meanwhile an invitation to the Bad company for a Military Parade to the Flayse is a lot more than it first seems. They will need all there training with TH to win the day. TH’s interaction with new aliens always drives the story along at a great speed. You will await the next one with anticipation.

Terry and Char go on vacation...

Amazing story with amazing characters. This book is full of action and mysteries; one of which you will not learn about until the final pages. Terry and Char will need a vacation to recover from their vacation! I have read all the Bad Company books and I have enjoyed every single one of them. This book does not disappoint. If you read this as your first Bad Company book, I can guarantee you will want to read the entire series.

They head for Venus where the space service is mostly automated aNd end trapped in a bomb shelter on one of the Venus moons. They have to fight off robots of many types. While trapped they have hallucinations about the Queen. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Another solid book in the series.

I have read all the previous books in the TH series and I enjoyed them all. I have read all of these books as well and I’m still enjoying this series. There is plenty of action and humor and good character development in this book. What I still do not understand is what happened with the original Bad Company crew that Nathan put together.Maybe this can be answered in the next book.

Intrigue and mystery...

Awwww, this series has come to an end, I need more Terry Henry Walton. He is an amazing character who sets out to do what he says and when a person has a purpose they achieve and TH is one such person. I liked how this book was a little different to the others in this series but still had the kick ass action and a whole lot of intrigue. Bring on more TH and Char!!

To much stuff after the book

I have read all the books of almost all the series and there is to much stuff after the book. But the books are wonderful. Could b more swearing marines cuss a lot and navy and army. Keep writing good words. More Beth Ann would be nice.
Bad Company is one of the best. Terry is so old fashion he is cool.

Not up to standard.

Was very disappointed with this book. Plot and dialog were below what I have come to expect in these series. The War Axe plot line was good. The secret base/broken elevator was very badly done. Dialog for two main characters and even BA were just aweful. Far too many loose ends in The plot at the end for my taste.

So amazing how Michael reminds me of Quentin Tarantino with his ability to make me laugh right after some incredibly poignant scene where characters I've grown used to and feel like I know are ripped from the story.... just amazing writing and my 2nd time reading the entire Kurtherian Epic.

Down the rabbit hole

TH and Char’s vacation doesn’t exactly go as planned. A rather Alice-type feel, actually. They have a mystery to solve, and this wasn’t quite how they envisioned their vacation.

Meanwhile, Christina and The Bad Company have a mystery of their own to solve, and an arse-kicking to deliver.

Another action-packed adventure in The Bad Company series.

Keep it up!

Have thoroughly enjoyed both the Terry Walton chronicles as well as the Bad Company series. Space opera at its best. Lots of action and twists. If you haven't read the series, this book can be read as a stand alone book. I really suggest you read them all. It has been a terrific adventure. I hope we haven't seen the last of these characters.

Review I am old and old fashion, I like to read books not having someone else read them to me.

So far This year I have read 75 books and will end with about 150, but with that said I like your books best. Right now I am in a Hurricane#9. Hoping that I will start another book. To everyone who reads this let them know these are great reading,.

Really outstanding story

Loved how Terry was talking about BA then she appears to them when she was needed. Christina has grown and matured a lot. She handled things very well why Terry and Chat were gone. Great story.

TH and Char goes for honeymoon ...

And anything can happen after that sentence! Literally, a lot of things did happen, and now it's up to these two to deal with it, properly, violently, full of swearing. So just business as usual...

Another good book

A good addition to the TH Walton universe. I liked both of the stories in the book and also enjoyed Beth Anne being thrown in. I missed this series and was glad when Craig Martelle wrote another one. Hope we don't have to wait to long for the next.

Good to the last line!

Any Bad Company book is a great book to read. Two stories, two worlds both maintaining action, suspense, and utilizing the great characters we've come to love. Only downside is waiting for the next TH novel to arrive!

Strange adventure for Terry and Char

Instead of a vacation Terry and Char go and and get themselves trapped inside a wrecked moon. Much strangeness follows. Meanwhile Bad Company goes to a bad news parade. Good read.

Dream world

Not quite as good as the previous five books . TH & Cha part seemed to drag on a replay loop ,where as Chris's marching troops had a reasonable amount of action and a good story line.

Scratching my head.

It felt like I read two books for the price of one. Military parades do involve a lot of preparation. Thanks to their technology this one ended well. Vacations can be just as deadly. I have no idea where that plot line was supposed to go.

This book is part of the series within a series set in the Kurtherian Gambit Universe. Craig Martelle and Michael Anderle did a great job creating a world and characters you can believe in and get excited about. If you enjoy this series, try the main series, it will take you on a trip...!!!
