The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
It’s a book that was well help you learn about presidents like a Abraham Lincoln. But in my choice it was not something I wanted to read but I had no other book to read.
We’re Red, Weird, and Blue! What Can We Do? By Dan Gutman. The main Character’s name is A.J. and his least favorite month is february but this is the month the story takes place and one of the reasons is President's day because of what happens at school. Then at school the principal Klutz had everybody get in line for a competition to see who would represent the school in the president’s day challenge. Before then they studied for the competition but A.j. and Andrea. It went back and forth because A.J’s friend Michael was making hand signals to the questions giving him the answers. So at the end Mr. Klutz decided to let both of them represent the school going against Dirk Schools. For the rest of the week teachers tell A.J. and Andrea facts about the presidents and even went to a different class room to study. Then the day came of the president day challenge and Mr. Porky flipped a coin, A.J. and Andrea got to answer first then it went back and forth asking the questions. Then the final question if A.J. or Andrea get the question right they would win and go to dizzyland and so would there class the question was ‘’What person’s birthday was January 17, had a wife named Deborah, played the violin the harp and the guitar, was a slave owner and died when I was 84 who am I? Andrea got mad because she or A.J. known the answer so A.J. grabbed the pencil and wrote down a name. Dirk school got the answer wrong and A.J. got the answer correct the answer was Benjamin Franklin it was a trick question because he wasn’t a president. I gave this book 4 stars because it was funny and I like funny stuff. The theme of this book is funny because of the jokes and characters in the book. I recommend this book to people who like funny books.
This book is really good let me tell you why. There is a contest between to schools 1 Dirk school 2 Ella Mentry school. They were against each other. Andrea and Arlo aka AJ were a team for Ella. And from Dork were Tommy and Morgan. Tommy just rugged his nose he didn't answer any questions like Arlo. But Andrea and Morgan were on fire. Now Benjamin Franklin was not a president. But that was the last question and the answer to it was Benjamin Franklin. Well guessed the Ans. And he got it correct and Ella Mentry won. They gotta go to dizzyland.
In honor of Presidents’ Day, two students from Ella Mentry will compete against the Dirk School rivals in the ultimate Presidents’ Day Challenge! The winning school would get bragging rights, a trip to an amusement park, and a secret prize.
The only problem, one student did not know anything about U.S. presidents, unless it involves their use of toilets! Will they be able to work together as a team?
This is part of the My Weird School Special Series. AJ and his “girlfriend “ (ewww, don’t you want to know when they’re going to get married?) have to compete against their rival school to see who knows the most about Presidents! I have to say, I learned a lot and I will never look at a certain president the same again 😳
Ah it was another great book in the series and this time it was about Presidents’ Day and did help me learn a little bit about that. It was also really funny and the competition between the two was interesting as well.Andrea and A.J really did end up pulling it off what was also really fun as I listened to this one on audiobook and it definitely helped bring the characters to life even more
It's President's Day. AJ and Andrea get chosen to do a President's Day challenge against a different school. It is called Dirk School but they call it Dork School. They have to name things about the presidents. They win because of AJ. The prize is tickets to Disneyland!
This is both educational and funny with a surprise ending. This book also includes some puzzles and review questions in the back. I enjoyed this book because I learned some things and it made me laugh. (Karen's review)
I loved the part where Andrea said that Abraham Lincoln was not a president. I would recommend this to a third grader. I didn’t like where there were to many quizzes.
