"Once upon a time..." ...my best childhood nights had started with this wonderful phrase!
Ever since I can remember, I loved a good story!
All started thanks to my beloved grandfather! He used to read to my sister and me, stories of mighty princes and horrifying dragons! Even now, sometimes I miss those cold winters in front of the fireplace in my hometown, Texas!
My best stories though were the ones from the Bible! Such is the spiritual connection that a cozy warm pass through my body every time I hear a biblical story!
My childhood memories were not all roses, but I always knew that the strongest shelter would be always there for me! It was Him!
Years passed by, and little-Chloe grown up reading all kind of stories! It was no surprise that I had this urge to write my own stories, and share them with the word!
If I have a God's purpose on Earth, I think it is to spread His love and wisdom, through my stories!
I was very excited to start reading this book. It sounded so good, but I had trouble progressing in the book. It starts off very slow, and the town seems interested in certain things, but this comes on the tail end of a really bad man running the town. Age and status as single shouldn't be high on the list of priorities. Good morals and work ethic should. It sounded like most people did what they had to to survive when Percy was running the show, it made it less believable that they would put those lines in the sand. The other thing that bothered me was the Insta love between the main characters. It felt like it was instantaneous, there was no back round or build up, just I love her/him and I am going to marry them.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Lily is a great leading female character as she tries to win over the residents of Placer Creek. She is qualified to be the school teacher but they think the teacher should be married! Newly appointed Sheriff Spencer has the main male role in A Sheriff to Save Her. Lily and Spencer are great role models whether chasing cattle rustlers or befriending a teenage girl. I recommend A Sheriff to Save Her to anyone who enjoys light historical fiction. I received an advance e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
After getting rid of the old corrupt sheriff Spencer want to become the sheriff and turn the town to a godly place once again, starting with giving the town a new name! The town is concerned that he’s not married! When Lily’s parents are killed in a fire ate but the former sheriff everyone is to scared to take her in so she seeks a room at the boarding house/ saloon! She desperately wants to be the new town teacher but the residents are concerned because of where she is staying and the fact that she is single. Spencer tried to stick up for her to no avail. They decide to marry so both can have the jobs they want! They think it will work because they already have feeling for each other. The instant they are married the town becomes more forgiving of Lily. As soon as he’s named serif he has to deal with rustler s stealing from his families neighbors ranch and trying to keep them at his family’s ranch. This is his first test will he stick by his family or work hard to find the real rustlers. There was a lot of drama, adventure, information and lessons to be learned in this book. It had plenty of characters and was surprised to learn so much about all of them that they seemed like real people! I thought having so many characters would be overwhelming and confusing but it added to the richness of the story. It had wonderful characters and a wonderful message. It was a nice clean book not like most filled with sex. This had multiple storylines weaved together like a beautiful tapestry! I really enjoyed this book!
A Sheriff to Save Her by Chloe Carley is an enchanting tale of old California. Percy Smythe has just been deposed. Well, no, he wasn't king in anybody's eyes but his own but he ran the town as if it were his personal kingdom. Including placing any spare woman he came across into a brothel, know as the boarding house. Of course, they weren't all working girls but that was hard to convince a town full of frightened people. One of them was Lily Franklin, the daughter of the preacher and his wife, the same folks that Smythe had killed and burned their house down around their ears. Now that the cavalry has disposed of Smythe and gotten Spencer Sutton accepted as sheriff, next on his agenda was getting Lily appointed school marm. The town wouldn't have it. She was only 19 years old, unmarried, and a resident of the boarding house-teaching their children. Horrors.
There were lots of things that needed to happen before Placer Creek became the town it should be. And lots of people helped make that happen. This fast paced book sees the sheriff marrying the pretty little school marm and proving himself worth of the town's respect. With good characters and a good story the transformation moves forward, including the friendly natives nearby and welcome newcomers joining in. A Sheriff to Save Her is an enjoyable read, as are all Carley's books; one a reader will not regret. I recommend it.
I received a free ARC of A Sheriff to Save Her. All opinions contained herein are my own.
I can't imagine how difficult life would have been during the time of the settlers. This story definitely was one where it opened my eyes to things I hadn't even thought of as being problematic. Lily was forced to live in a brothel after a tyrant who owned the town killed her only relative, taking the land as his own. Thankfully, she was spared the horrible lifestyle by the other women there protecting her. That didn't help how the rest of the town viewed her though. As Lily wanted to start a school in the town, the citizens refused unless she would get married. The new sheriff, Spencer Sutter, had a crush on Lily, and vice versa, so they decided to marry in name only so she could help the town and teach the children. There were many hardships and dangerous encounters through this story, but through it all, the love between Lily and Spencer continued to grow! I really loved reading their love story! I received an ARC of this book from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.
This was another great read from Chloe Carley. She is such a good storyteller. My favorite Chapter was 13 where Spencer and Lily agree to merry. I like the fact that Lily proposes marriage to him and then apologizes to him; but then is surprised when Spencer says yes. There are many twists and turns in this book that will literally keep you on the edge of your seat. This book is part of a series but it works well as a stand-alone. There are no cliffhangers. It is a clean read. However reading it as part of the series adds depth to the story. The principles in the story are Spencer and Lily with focus on their romance; but there are two other significant romances going on this book. I like very much the positive way Author treats the relationship between the Indians the residents of the community. I also like how each of the characters exercised their faith and called upon God in times of trouble and then offered prayers of thanks when prayers were answered.
Spencer Sutter is named Sheriff of the newly named town after the Army arrested Percy and his henchman Charlie for numerous crimes in the town and surrounding counties. Spencer became acquainted with Lily Franklin when she arrived on foot and in bad shape after a twenty mile walk 🚶to inform them his sister-in-law was taken by Percy and Charlie away from town after she was beaten again. In order for the townspeople to accept Lily as a teacher, they expect her to marry as a condition for her to accept the position. Her father was the preacher there until he and his wife perished in the fire 🔥that left Lily homeless and since none of the townspeople would take her in, she had lived in the "boarding house".
ONE AWESOME TREAT!!! Oh man! Talk about running smack dab into a brick wall. Chloe hits pay dirt with this jewel. A whirlwind of unpredictable mishaps and adversity triggers all of your emotions exploding to life skillfully. One riveting storyline and impressive plot showcase all the trials and tribulations along with a few striking twists that propel this bad boy to a whole new level. The characters are authentic, alluring and so realistic with depth and qualities that blend and flow smoothly. The scenes are written with such realism it makes for one impressive backdrop. Amazing job Chloe, thanks for sharing this little baby with us.
I enjoyed this wonderful adventure telling of the rebirth of a community. I loved the change in the hearts of the characters--from prejudice to true community, building relationships, a schoolhouse, a new life for the main characters. Indians, cattle rustlers, babies, families, all come together in the telling of this adventure. And don't forget the extended epilogue! I highly recommend this exciting book! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
If you enjoy Historical Romances than you will definitely want to read this book. Placer Creek needs a new sheriff and teacher. Its much easier to be the sheriff than the teacher with everyone having preconcieve ideals about the young woman wanting to be the teacher. The rebirth of this small community was a joy to read about. I found this to be very well written, and I loved the interactions of the characters in the book. I would certainly recommend this book to those searching for a good clean Christian read.
“A Sheriff to Save Her” could have had 5 stars if just a bit more editing had been done. The story, however, was entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed getting reacquainted with old friends. While this is a stand-alone read, there is continuity that I appreciate from a former book and I’m hoping the trend continues! Miss Carley tackles some societal prejudices very well and she keeps the action moving. I had not been much of a romance genre fan, but Chloe Carley is helping to change my mind.
A beautifully told story about settling the West, the trials the people went through with the Indians and bigoted neighbors! Percy Smythe, the previous self imposed ruler of the town, was not the best advertisement for new residents. When Spencer Sutter was named the new Sheriff, he had his work cut out for him. Lily, who had lost her parents, wanted to be a school teacher, but the townsfolk frowned on a single lady teaching their children. Would she be able to change their minds or would she have to move on?
I received an ARC of this book from the author, Chloe Carley, and this is my voluntary and honest review. I loved this love story about Spencer and Lydia. I was happy to read that Spencer was sworn in as the sheriff and that the town finally became a great place to live. This is a great book to read if you like clean romance. I look forward to the next book by this author.
I couldn't even finish this book. It was too wordy and all the author did was repeat, and repeat, and repeat, and repeat, and repeat. For Pete's sake, we know there are cattle rustlers. Did you really have to devote 2 chapters to his riding the west side of the ranch? You told us what he found every two miles out of a 20 mile section. Don't you know how to be concise???? And I really thought this was a romance. Where is the romance???
This was a great book to read and enjoyed every minute of it. The way you continued with the story line after the cattle rustlers were found and killed. The story continued in a most dramatic way and then the add on that came after to finish the tale was a real great idea with nothing left to chance. Thank you for a great story. This is my review and in my words only. It was a free Arc read as well. Norma Gorrill
Book two in a series is my favorite of all three. The extended epilogues are an extra in connecting the stories. Lily and Spencer are definitely the sweetest couple. As with the others, the combination of action and romance are well balanced. The characters are believable, no one is perfect and the prayers for guidance are realistic for what someone would say in this dramatic setting. Overall a good read.
This book, as well as, the previous book in the series are very good. The hero, Spencer, and heroine,z Lilly, are strong and faithful. Ms. Carley has written excellent stories with strong Christian values. I recommend this book and series to everyone who loves "love" and strong characters.
Town people are not very inviting but the new sheriff is working on that. They need a teacher but are not willing for her to be single. Spencer knows Lily is a fine woman and is willing to take a chance on her. His example helps the town start to trust her and each other. You'll find mystery, revenge, and love is this delightful tale.
This was a very good story. It is a clean well written and I highly recommend reading this book. It's about Lily who wants to be a school teacher but the town thinks she should be married. Spencer is the sheriff in town and they think him too young too. He has feelings for Lily. This is a sweet romance of people needing each other. I was given a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
This is a truly amazing book and I loved it. This is a Christian Historical Romance. I loved the main characters. I highly recommend this book. Ms Carly is an amazing writer. Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed.
Sheriff Spencer has taken the challenge of changing the attitude of a town used to being under the rule of an evil man. Nobody speaks to others. Everyone is fearful. He is drawn to Lily, the focus of the town's hate. Can he help the town and Lily? A fast moving adventure and clean romance. I love it.
This book in my opinion lasted to long. It was like the author wanted too tell to many stories all at once. Oh and don't get me started on the Extended Epilogue, I can't see well enough to read so thank God my kindle is able to read to me. But couldn't read the Extended one :-(
Loved this book. Danger, love, intrigue and the coming together of renewing a town that was once a horrible place to live. Cattle thieves, love, rebuilding a town and danger are all in here. You won’t be disappointed.
I loved this story of a town trying to succeed but a selfish trìes to control but it never happens. The army establishes a Sheriff who becomes busy and gets neighbours to start helping each other. A hard life if you lose all your family but in time your heart opens up to love. A great read.
A nice love story about two people who needed each other to be seen as acceptable by the town. The heroine is sweet and funny. She has a great heart and loves Jesus. The sheriff is strong and protective of his wife. This is a sweet love story that illustrates loves gradual growth.
this is a good story, if you like cowboys you will enjoy reading the book, i was give a copy of the book but this is an honest review. the book show the harship and the happeness that everyone goes through. the author has written another great story
I really enjoyed how the whole town gets turned around by a few standing for what is right, taking on responsibilities and confronting wrong behaviour and attitudes. I especially liked the marriage vows and the prayers.
