Check out more manga and graphic novel reviews @ Perspective of a Writer...

As the sixth volume of a manga my rating is affected by the previous volumes! See my review of volume one... and my review of volume two... and my review of volume three... and my review of volume four... and my review of volume five...

On her 16th birthday, orphan Himari Momochi inherits the ancestral estate she’s never seen. Momochi House exists on the barrier between the human and spiritual realms, and Himari is meant to act as guardian between the two worlds. But on the day she moves in, she finds three handsome squatters already living in the house, and one seems to have already taken over her role!

Going into this volume 6, I was gratified that the superior storytelling continued to impress backed up by the gorgeous artwork. The mangaka is using all of her skills developed over the last 5 volumes to enhance, enhance, enhance the story!! The frames twist and turn using different techniques that make the story feel lush.

The plot was TOTALLY unexpected! We swing in a direction I wasn't expecting... so much so I didn't see that twist coming and boy was it a pay off! Himari is focused on in this volume to a huge extent which I enjoyed but then when the story twists to focus on Aoi I was just as engaged by the mental place he was at...

The injection of Nekobaba the big cat ayakashi really added a ton of tension as she obviously was pushing Himari... while her arc was short (within the volume) I really enjoyed how it played with the romantic relationship in a really touching but understated way. The sudden addition of a cute family oriented comedy chapter tied everything together in a satisfying way while you understand this is the calm before the storm...

This is just what a volume that comes between big story arcs should be!! It gives us a view inside the minds of our two leads, Aoi and Himari in a compelling way... i.e. through story. Humor is also banked on in a fun way that offsets the fact that this is a story build up volume. I wouldn't skip this thinking its unnecessary, as we NEED to understand each characters POV for the coming story storm!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

BOTTOM LINE: The mental places of both Himari and Aoi are laid out as we wait in the calm before the mega storm!!

This has been one of the volumes in this series with the most depth so far. I wish we would have gotten this kind of dept much sooner in the story. I feel like we already missed out on some great opportunities that way.
I'm going to continue to keep going with the series for now. We will see how I feel in a couple of volumes.

This volume just really dragged for me, I’m not enjoying the storyline with the new teacher character, the other new character was okay but I wished there was more to her.

It was a long road for this but I've been a busy bee these couple of day. I like how the story is not just merely a love story, there is a main plot on the story to free Aoi from the Nue and the Momochi house curse.

I love when were are introduced to a lot of different characters I LOVED NEKOBABA. This also is giving a Card Captors Sakura feel, in the sense of character not being what the really are. Like Mr. Nachi reminds me of Eriol Hiragizawa from CCS his vibe is like melancholic rain that is hiding the sun just like Eriol. I could be just me but I'm intrigued and want to know what will happened now.

I was able to check out volumes 6-10 from my local Joint-Use library before the new Year of 2019. I was looking forward to continuing with this series. As always, the cover is beautiful and the first couple pages in full color were nice. From when I last left off and at the beginning of volume 6. I was heartbroken that Aoi rejected Himari's love confession and that the mark on her hand washed away with just bathe and then everyone forgets about it like it was normal. I was so confused while reading the first half of this book, but I eventually started to realize what I was reading along the way of the second half of this book. Takamura Nachi is an interesting and mysterious character. I really can't tell if he is a good or a bad guy. I also want to know what is the connection to Aoi is and also the mystery of the Kagome Park Ghost Story. I may have been a little confused with this volume, but I had a great time reading this book. I was surprised and a little creeped out/scared with the ghost stories and the children's games (For example Kagome Kagome - "Who is that behind you?" and Hana Ichi Monme - "I want that child/Which child?/Let's talk about it"). The reason being that I've watched too many scary movies English and foreign with children games or children involved and it scary to me; even when reading about it. A sort of ominous feel. The part with Himari's feeling and sorrow along with that mirror was what confused me and then the story just continued onward. I also thought that everyone would've remembered Aoi's family (NANAMORI) expect Aoi, as at the beginning of the series is explained on how he was erased as if he didn't exist because he ended up becoming the Nue. This was why I rated this book 4 stars, more like 4 1/2 stars instead of 5 stars. I still liked this volume though. I'm looking forward to reading further into this series.

With Aoi having rejected Himari's confession, both of them are in a state of distress - she is saddened and confused, while he is distracted. At this time, Himari's school gets a new teacher who focuses on the occult, and an interest in the Momochi house, who shows her a mirror that lets her see inside a person's heart. She is tempted to use it to see Aoi's feelings but decides not to; however, something feels weird about the people around her, and she has to fight against the mirror's magic. Back at Momochi house, they have a visitor return, a nekomata who is fond of Aoi and protective about him, and who tests Himari to be a suitable presence in the house. Here, we again see another aspect of parental affection among ayakashi and humans, as the nekomata is crafty but still motherly in her machinations. Himari's intentions to free Aoi from Momochi house also comes into question, as the nature of his transformation into the nue once agains places doubts on how much human he still is. As a whole, this volume doesn't really advance the plot that much, but the introduction of the new characters, especially that teacher, certainly leads to more potential threads of the story.

The Nekomata Yokai shows up because of how Aoi rejected Himari's love and acceptance for her. Nekomata doesn't know the exact reason Aoi is acting strangely, but Yukari does. Nekomata insists it is time that for Aoi to get married to an Ayakashi wife and Aoi dislikes the idea quite a lot.

Himari is now tasked with finding a hidden hair accessory. Nekomata really doesn't approve of Himari since she is a merely human. Nekomata slowly but surely understands the intention of Himari and begins to trust Himari. Although who wouldn't trust Himari, she is truly a hardworking high school student.

Mr. Nashi, the newest teacher, is somehow in connection with Aoi Nanamori. Mr. Nashi has a very close appearance to Aoi. It makes me wonder. Is he somehow related to Aoi? He seems to be a teacher in disguise, but is his first or last name Nashi?

Could he be...?

Nashi Nanamori...?

In Volume 6 of The Demon Prince of Momochi House, Himari must deal with revelations from the end of volume 5. Meanwhile, she meets an interesting new teacher with an interest in the occult and an ayakashi who views Himari as unfitting as the mistress of Momochi House.

In manga, it always seems to be suspicious when a new teacher arrives on the scene--especially one who likes to collect old, mysterious objects and likes to tell ghost stories. Needless to say, I have my suspicions. And Neko-Baba is quite funny, if a bit unfair to Himari.

Despite what she knows about Aoi now, though, I love that Himari continues to persevere in her quest to help him.

This volume really gave more leading guy history but at the same time it continues the overall story by adding characters and adding new twists and turns to the story. I appreciate that there is plenty of time between one volume to the other and the artstyle allows the house to be atmospheric and beautiful. The only issue I had with this particular volume is that its beating around the bush about some of the main parts of the plot. I guess there still needs to be more buildup or something that needs to occur in order to finish the series but I'm still enjoying myself. Because of these points I have to give this volume a 4 out 5 stars.

This volume was probably one of the most interesting bc we finally get some real sense of (the) overarching plot of the story rather than what has always felt like little vignettes.

I’ll cast aside the whole instalove for now, though it made me laugh out loud.

The bonus story really confused me, though. Was it trying to suggest Hayoto is some kind of Ayakashi? Or is it that Kasha used the bones of a dead boy to make a “doll” that resembled Aoi’s friend??

I love this mangaka’s art and the overall premise but narratively they could use some help from time to time IMO... still, this is a fun, light read for a nice distraction, and since the volumes aren’t too expensive, I’ll keep reading... plus, I am eager to see if my theory about the teacher will pan out or if I’m wrong...

This is probably a more interesting arc than the last one. Nachi is trouble. I really enjoyed the mirror chapters—very interesting manifestation of Himari’s desires and fears. I couldn’t help but notice Yukari has some exceedingly skinny arms. Sometimes, Aya Shouoto has some peculiar perspective issues. The story is definitely engaging, but the art while beautiful at times is also disappointing. The ends of chapters often seem hurried and incomplete. Deadlines, amirite!

I found this volume a little harder to follow than the others, but I think it's because how it splits the story to fit in the published volumes. The ending was really good for this vol yet again, and I am very curious to learn more about Mr. Nachi, who apparently remembers Aoi! I think the author does a good job of keeping Aoi mysterious and otherworldly, but not so much so that he isn't relatable. This volume also featured a giant cat god called Nekobaba, so there's that.

Hurrah! Fun adventures full of danger in the world of ayakashi! We're finally getting into the actual point of this story. I love Nekobaba, so fluffy~ And with the introduction of a mysterious new character, we FINALLY have an actual villain. Kasha doesn't count. He's more like a trickster, prankster, etc. He's like Loki. His alignment is chaotic neutral (borderline neutral evil but not quite).

The best part is...the romance isn't completely central. It's a subplot! Where a good romance should be.

This series has 16 volumes.

Who is the new mysterious teacher to AOI!!!!! I want to know.lol. And why is he coming in trying to stir up trouble. And why is he creepy as hell.
Anyway the story is getting more crazy and it is unclear what more they will reveal and how things will go. I just wonder in every book. I mean they keep talking about how Aoi is losing his humanity and he's not part of the human world and all these things. Himari is firmly rooted in the human world. Soooo yeah.

Semi spoilers..... Okay the ending has left me confused. Has she met Aoi's dad or is it Aoi? At first I thought the teacher was Aoi, but now I am unsure. However I am very pleased that he was in a slump because he rejected her. That must mean that he loves her in more than just family..... At least I hope so.
