Some picture books just radiate joy — the kind of story that makes children smile before you even start reading. Ruby the Rainbow Witch: A Picture-Perfect Rainbow Day by Kim Ann, illustrated by Nejla Shojaie, is one of those books. It’s cheerful, musical, and bursting with kindness from cover to cover.
Ruby lives in a world that looks like pure candy-colored imagination. She spends her days making new friends, spreading happiness, and — most magically — giving each new friend a colorful rainbow hat that matches who they are inside. A bright hat for a shy creature, a brave one for a hesitant friend — each gift is her way of showing care and understanding.
The story is written in lively rhyme, full of alliteration and musical rhythm that make it a joy to read aloud. It’s the kind of book that naturally gets children repeating lines, giggling at the sounds, and trying to guess what color comes next. Beneath the sparkle, though, is a lovely reminder that small acts of kindness can change someone’s whole day.
Nejla Shojaie’s illustrations glow with warmth. The pages swirl with colors that feel alive — soft purples, golden yellows, and bright pinks that make Ruby’s world feel welcoming and magical. Each page feels like stepping into a celebration of creativity and friendship.
What makes Ruby the Rainbow Witch: A Picture-Perfect Rainbow Day so special is its heart. Ruby’s magic isn’t about spells or tricks — it’s about empathy, generosity, and joy. She shows children that being kind can be just as magical as waving a wand.
Young Rainbow Witch Ruby loves making new friends. She decides to go for a walk in her candy-filled neighborhood. Young Rainbow Witch Ruby meets Cocoa (cat) at the Peppermint Palace, Butterscotch (bunny) & Fudge (friendly frog). What pitcher-perfect friends do you have?

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn black & white or colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) fantasy storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s fantasy movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

Ruby the Rainbow Witch is the story of Ruby who has many admirers of her rainbow hat so she decides to help them out and grants them their wishes of their very own rainbow hat.
This story sounded promising from the storyline but the story is sadly flat, boring and repetitive. The same page of words is repeated after every animal she passes and the way she just gives the animals what they admired but didn't ask for it leaves the story with no ups and downs or drama and it's like it leads to nowhere. I thought it would end with some big message to show why she did as she did in the book yet it was only how it's nice to do nice things for friends. Not exactly the inspiring end I was hoping for to improve the book!
The illustrations are fantastic and the colourful sweetie themed pages are sure to attract children's attention. It's just a shame that the writing didn't match up to the brilliance of the pictures. This is a beautiful looking book but really lacks in story, I wouldn't recommend but if you like a repetitive read then this may be the book for you.
Ruby is a friendly witch dressed in rainbow colors. She carries a swirly-whirly wand and wears a picture-perfect hat. As Ruby walks along in her candy paradise, she meets a frog, a cat, and bunny. They all admire her rainbow hat and humbly request her to grant their wish to wear a rainbow hat. Ruby is friendly and kind to the animals living in her world.
The illustrations are exquisite, bright and appealing. Ruby teaches her primary grade readers to be kind and giving to all they meet. I would have liked to see the plot expanded a bit more, but the alliteration and onomatopoeia make this book a fun read-aloud choice.
Excellent Book! Ruby the Rainbow Witch and her friendly friends return for another picture-perfect adventure. When a giant gust of whistling wind tosses and tumbles Ruby's swirly-whirly wand away, she gathers her friends and travels to the end of the rainbow to find it.Along the way, they meet Lollie Pop the Leprechaun and discover how fabulously fun it can be to make a new friend and work together to solve a problem. After all, that's what friendly friends are for! 8.5 x 8.5 Paperback Book.
This book is wonderful! First off Kim Ann not only did a beautiful job writing this book, but also is choosing the best illustrator - Neijla Shojaie - for the job. Whimsical, whitty storytelling with stunning illustrations to top it off. I love how Ruby makes a bunch of friendly-friends and shares with them something really important to her. It is refreshing to see a happy witch granting wishes. The landscape is gorgeous, lemonade river, cotton candy clouds and pastry paths! It took me back to my childhood with reminders of Candy Land! I am a fan of Ruby the Rainbow Witch and can't wait to see her next adventure!
It's a picture ~ perfect day in the land of sweets and candy
Children will not be able to resist Ruby the 🌈 Rainbow Witch with her twirly wirly rainbow dress and her picture perfect rainbow hat. This is a bright colourful book with a sing~songy , wish~wishy message of joy and friendship.
Fun exciting illustrations with giant sweets and candy to delight. Children will soon be joining in the reading fun as many of the sentences are repeated throughout the book.
I highly recommend this delicious treat. I downloaded it free for #InternationalWomensDay so Thank You.I
RUBY THE RAINBOW WITCH: A PICTURE-PERFECT RAINBOW DAY by Kim Ann is a short story: a quick read focusing on a young, magical Rainbow Witch, who grants the small creatures in the forest their wish for a rainbow hat. Using her 'magical, lollipop, rainbow wand', Ruby twirls and whirls saying 'as you wishy-wish', granting the animals their colorful wish. The forest creatures include a frog, a cat and a bunny.
RUBY THE RAINBOW WITCH: A PICTURE-PERFECT RAINBOW DAY is a fast paced, very colorful, short story. The images are bright and cheery; the text may be difficult to read for a younger child starting out as the font is similar to printing by hand. Suitable for children 1-4 years of age.
I read this to my girls (8 and 4) and they both loved it. I did stumble over the words but that's okay. The fun words the author used made the story exciting. Great read about making friends while having a "picture perfect rainbow day".
Author did a great job writing this and the illustrator made beautiful illustrations to go along with the story.
The book illustration is good. The storyline needs to be improved. The book sounded like a record on repeat, ruby was magically giving rainbow hats to everyone. Every character had the same line. For me the book was not that great and it wasn't bad either. My daughter even asked me to delete it, even though she loves rainbow. I gave it 3 star because of the illustrations and the efforts to teach kids that being good is a great thing.
Ruby the Rainbow Witch makes lots of new friends in A Picture-Perfect Rainbow Day. As she walks through the land of sweets and candies, she meets a frog, a cat, and a bunny and grants each of their wishes. I enjoyed the story but found it a bit repetitive with each wish granted. I’m sure young children would enjoy the repetition though.
I loved how colorful this book was. I also loved that she was happy to make everyone’s day by providing them with a wonderful hat like hers. Instead of getting upset that others wanted the same hat as her she was happy to make their day by giving them one just like hers. Great message.
Bright colored illustrations help to make this book rainbow perfect. Ruby feels good when making others feel good as well. I thought it was delightful, but the print was difficult to read on an iPad. A more standard print might be easier to read, but that is only one person‘s opinion.
I had the pleasure of working with Kim Ann on her exciting second book. Full of bright color, sweet treats and moralistic friendship, Kim's stories are a delight; I can't wait to read more of her work!
Follow Ruby the Rainbow Witch as she makes her way through a magical land, granting wishes as she goes. The bright and colorful illustrations burst from the pages.
Children will love this book! With the repeating of the same lines it’s easy for this book to became a child’s favorite book! Bonus: it teaches children a lesson too!
Colorful book filled with candy, magic, and kindness. Nice little book for children. Love the repetition of some parts of the story. This can help younger ones remember the words and try to read along.
Ruby the Rainbow Witch: A Picture-Perfect Rainbow Day is a delightful children’s book. Ruby’s journey with her rainbow hat underscores the importance of making friends and spreading joy by crafting picture-perfect hats.
Such a picture perfect book!! My 6 year old daughter really enjoyed this book! She said, "It teaches you that it feels good to help others!" I would say it was a hit with her witchy vibes as well!
This book is adorable. My daughter is special needs and it has the right amount of words to pictures to keep her engaged. She also loved the first one also.
