“Pretend to be my wife. Just for the weekend.” Some people would have laughed and walked away. But when the word 'wife' comes out of your boss's mouth, you sit up straight. And when your boss is a silver fox with iceberg-blue eyes who clearly loves leg-day at the gym—his butt is seriously amazing—you don't just sit up. You jump. You shiver. You say yes. 48 hours-- that's how long I'm supposed to behave like we're man and wife. He wants the whole package, too. I've fantasized many times about kissing him before. That doesn't make me less nervous about sleeping in the same bed... Soon, I forget that we're playing pretend. He'd never marry someone like me. I'm only his wife for now. What if I want it to last forever?
Is it just me that gets irrationally angry when the character IN the book doesn’t match the character ON the cover of the book?? On the Amazon blurb it says that Luke is a “silver fox”. On page one of the book, it’s says that Luke is “like a Nordic God. Tall blond and angular.” Yet on the front cover he is dark!! It drives me a little bit bonkers, if I’m being honest!!
So the story was good enough and I actually really liked the idea of it. What put me off was the constant “come for me, Wife.” “Put your cock in me, husband.” Yes, we get the idea, they are trying to make everyone believe they are husband and wife, but it kind of went a little overboard!
I gave it 2 stars because I genuinely liked Luke and Celia, I just found some of the dialogue to be slightly cringe...and the cover and character descriptions didn’t match up!!
This was a a good book been awhile since i read a penny book.
Lets start off that i love both MCs!! Luke's dirty talking and gentlemen charm and Celia for her fanfic writing and being so sweet. Celia has been crushing and fantasizing about her boss Luke for about a year but she knows she can't cross that line and he wouldn't wanna date someone like her.. so she's friendly and a hard worker.. and when he's out of the office she writes dirty hot fanfic about what she wants Luke to do to her ;). When Luke ask her a huge favor be his pretend wife for the weekend for a bet against his friend she agrees and boy oh boy!!! He told her he likes to be competitive and lets say things went from 0 to 🔥 Celia knows its just for the weekend to enjoy all the dirty fantasies without getting her heartbroken she hopes.. but the big surprise is when she finds out the bet was all a lie.. Luke didn't need a pretend wife he truly wanted to have a weekend away from the office with Celia. Luke has been crushing on her since the first day and thought she didn't like him (lord lol) until he finds that dirty secret ;) and well everything is history.
I'm sad we never got a epilogue to find out what else happens to them :( yeah he ask her to for real marry but i needed more.
No ow/om drama, no cheating, sexy times, slight secondary charas, no virgins

What annoyed me a little in the beginning was the constant Husband and wife calling. Normally I find that adorable and sweet, but in the beginning it was a tid bit much. After a bit I liked it again. I know for a fact hot tub sex isn't as fun as in the book, but I still found it pretty hot! It all sounded pretty hot!
I love how he asked her to be his wife and how fast it goes. I'm a sucker for those! To be honest I actually had a feeling about the plot and I loved it! It definitley was very steamy!
I believe this must be the very first story, written by Penny Wylder, that the heroine is so so so naive, it hurts... Let's pretend to be married and kiss and have sex and scream louder than usual, and it's all pretend, and I didn't just say it cause I wanted to 'fuck someone for free.' Ok, I know that's not how the story went at the end, but she didn't even stop for a second and thought of the reasons, taking the bet as an 'ordinary' thing. C'mon, girl! Wake up!
Other than that, if you're looking for a good foreplay story, read this and get some loving baby! Show your moves to your loved one and give him the lap dance in a jacuzzi, that he has never had before! But be careful... Our hero and heroine proved that it might casually end up in sex in public place... Bleh... Some things should be left in the bedroom, Penny!
This actually made me wanna gag or throw up for real. It was so so annoying. I mean I knew what I was getting myself into so it's entirely my fault. But also and to be completely frank this is not a good book. It's an average, way too typical, overly sweet, disgustingly accepting of overbearing, disrespectful completely unnatural behaviour, one dimensional sex fantasy (resembling bad fan fiction). And that's all it is.
Not much more can be said about this book, but it was über adorable and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Would have been stellar if it was a full-length book and there had been some relationship and character development.
But if you're in the mood for something hot and short, this just might be for you.
Wife for Now by Penny Wylder is a deliciously tempting, unique, steamy, sexy sweet boss/assistant fake wife romance. It is an amazing romance that will have you wishing you could read Celia's fanfic about her boss Luke. What little that was included in the story was Hot!!! This was such a great read- I was rooting for them to get their HEA. I would have liked there to be an epilogue because how the story ended seemed rushed but the overall story was fantastic so the rushed ending didn't detract too much. This story had twists, drama, heat, chemistry, passion and romance. It's a classic Penny Wylder romance!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋💋💋 Another really good , pretty hot book from Penny . A make believe marriage, a hot boss, and a beautiful weekend away , is it all just for kicks or does something else factor into this getaway.
It just felt unreal, can’t really relate. This secretary/assistant is in love with her boss. Has written stories abt her boss. For a 1 yr she has been wrking for him. All of a sudden one day he ask her to be his wife (pretend) he made a bet a few yrs ago with his best friend on who would get married 1st. & his friend is currently engage. So the issues: this is ur best friend u made this bet with is going to believe u are all of a sudden “married” like seriously?!?!? Yea I stop after chapter 4... I just couldn’t relate or even understand the punch line of this story. It took me 2 days to read up to chapter 4... normally I finish a book in 2 days. So I just gave up & moved on the the nxt!
Provocative, hot, and a recurring fantasy for many. Instant wife to the handsome boss for a whirlwind weekend of lust and luxury couldn’t get any better.
This little fantasy is executed with elegance and smoking-hot passion. Celia is the efficient secretary who harbours a secret crush on her hunk of a boss, but Luke seems oblivious to her heart's desires until the day he proposes marriage... for a fake weekend.
Well, the fake part lasts only for the drive to their destination as all their dirty ideas jump from their imagination into hardcore bedroom activity. Yay!
If the husband and wife scenario works for you, this is spot on. The words pop up every ten seconds to spice up their very sexy interactions.
Even though the story is short, the plot still has more than just not-at-all-fake intimacy. Office romance, a clever ruse, some secret hobby and a paradise venue where the truth, and love, finally blooms. Nice ☺
Wow! This new release by Penny Wylder is H.O.T.!!!!! My kindle just dropped out of my hands and onto the floor in a gigantic puddle right now. Wife for Now might have taken the lead as a new favorite from this author for me tonight.
As you might surmise from the title, the premise is of pretending a marriage for the weekend between a hunky boss (I couldn't help but love this guy!) and his lovely assistant who also has been secretly fantasizing about him since they met a year ago. Why are they pretending? That's what you'll have to find out for yourself. It's a short, VERY steamy novella length story that is as sexy as it is sweet but I'm not going to lay out the whole thing for you, just read it.
It's fun, romantic and almost has a 'sweep you off your feet' feeling to it. Reading this put a big smile on my face and sometimes, a low drama, no angst love story is just what you need to make your night. That's what Wife for Now was for me. LOVED it. Maybe you will too!
An early copy was provided and happily received. This is my honest review of it.
Your boss, the guy you've been secretly lusting over for the past year, the one who inspires all of the fan-fiction you've secretly been penning at your desk in your spare time - yeah, that guy? So what do you do when he approaches you for a personal favor, a very up-close-and-personal favor: would you pretend to be his wife for the weekend so he can win a bet against his friend? I mean, seriously, what could possibly go wrong as opposed to what might possibly go right in this scenario? Normally, Celia is work appropriate at all times (unless her boss, Luke's, back is turned, then all bets are off since his backside is as perfect as his front). When Luke pops this question to her completely out of left field, she's stunned, but willing to do anything for him. Luke, of course, doesn't realize that anything means EVERYTHING, but the sparks certainly fly during their weekend getaway!
A pleasant surprise and change of plot. What happens when all your fantasies about your boss you've put to words finally come true? Could it be nothing but a dream or is there a real chance that he feels the same way about her.......falling for her from the first moment he met her?
The way their relationship came together might be a little different but if the outcome is what they both wanted, does it really matter? This was a steamy and beautifully written short read and quite enjoyable. Definitely, plan to read again!
Oh what a unique love story! I was so enthralled by the romance and developing love between Celia and Luke that I read it all in one sitting. The author so accurately describes the various settings that you can easily visualize them. It is so sweet that you are rooting for them from beginning to end. I received an arc from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Celia and Luke are so cute together and made for each other. A super hot boss you've been crushing on. The chemistry that's explosive. A fake engagement for a week? This story is so fun to read and the characters are so much fun. I read an advance reader copy and voluntarily chose to review.
This is a first read for this author and won’t be my last. It was not at all what I expected but much better although I worked out the storyline very quickly. It was a hot and fast read and you’ll love it. I loved that this was all instigated by her boss, he knew what he wanted and took. You’ll love this!
This book cannot be the advertised 300+ pages. The pages skip anywhere from three to six page numbers per page. (Now before I am asked about my font size and kindle, I have a kindle 8 and read on the smallest font--but I checked. The only time the page number are in sequential order is when the font size is the 3rd largest). Secondly, the average read time is 1.5 hours, please check any other book that is upwards of 300 pages and you will see a read time of more than three hours. I read this book in just shy of 30 minutes and I read at about 150-200 pages an hour. So you definitely don't get what you paid for. To add insult to all this, it ends at 85%. Now as to the writing, if you are looking for a smutty book that's only to be read for the sex, there are much better books out there. The characters were flat and boring, the story was predictable and the dialogue was cliche and trite. The author tried to go for a dom/sub type sexual relationship however it read as forced. Honestly, there are much better books out there, I wouldn't bother. I hate writing and reviews, I try to see the positive in all books because I know authors work hard at their craft. But this just felt like it was meant to trick us.
What can I say, I absolutely loved this book by Penny Wylder. Celia is the personal assistant for successful Luke for a year now. She’s harbored a secret crush on him and writes about her fantasy relationship with him on a hot, sexy anonymous website, and what a hot sexy fantasy affair they have. To her surprise, Luke asks her to pretend to be his wife one weekend when he is to meet his buddy who he has had a wager as to who will marry first. His friend is to marry shortly and Luke says that he is too competitive to let his friend win, hence the marital farce withe Celia. She can’t resist the opportunity, so she agrees to everything, including being intimate with her “husband.” It’s a perfect weekend until she discovers Luke has some fantasies of his own. While the storyline was rather predictable for me, the hot, sweet romance was oh so fulfilling. I never tire of a Penny Wylder HEA and this one is so sweet and adorable, I just couldn’t get enough of it. I highly recommend this book and this author!
Luke is charming and romantic. Celia is smart, sweet and secretly dirty. His plan to need a pretend wife is a good one and Celia is quick to say yes. They have definite chemistry and jump into the sex instantly with no holding back. The heat and passion are all there and written in the typical Wylder fashion “Hot and Steamy”. What was missing was the cat and mouse. Suspense and holding me on the edge of my seat. I got plenty of steamy sex, thank you, but I needed some hold my breath and drama. Even her finding out his secret lasted only a few moments. That in my opinion would have taken this book to a 5 star. Still a good read and one of my favorite Authors!!!
All right, I can buy into the idea of an assistant who develops a crush on her boss. But in what universe does the boss of a multi billion dollar corporation fall in love with the woman who answers his phone, gets his coffee, and takes care of his laundry?
Not to worry--I read the whole thing without complaint, despite the fact that the story just kept getting sillier and sillier. Now, that's what I call writing!
If you have a hard time suspending disbelief (buying into a story), this may not be your cup of tea. For those of us who just ask to be entertained for a little while, it's right down our alley.
No big themes here, nor mighty messages. Three stars.
