Burning Now
Waking up naked in the ashes of a burned out building wasn’t part of Vanya’s plan. It isn’t every day that Firefighter Gideon Sato finds a naked body while checking the debris of burned warehouse for hot spots. More surprising is that fact the man is alive and mostly unharmed. It doesn’t hurt that he’s cute too. Vanya Stravinsky is a chef at a Russian bistro. A late night attack leaves him with gaps in his memory and no easy answers to give Gideon. As the two of them begin a relationship, a web of secrets and threats from the Russian mafia lead to Vanya being investigated by the police. In a tangle of human trafficking and danger, can a firebird clear himself of accusations and rescue the right people? Or will it all go up in flames?

A firebird shifter? Not really my thing. And this didn't read like any of AR Moler's other hurl/healing/comfort goodies, so it really didn't work for me.

An interesting mystery story with a loose twist on a phoenix. Well put together with good characters.

Vanya is a chef. One night he is shot and wakes up in a burning building with a fireman staring at him.
Gideon can’t believe he found an uninjured naked man in a fire. Somehow he is drawn to him and they start to bond.
Short story, insta love/bonding between a firebird and a fireman. Interesting shifter story.

Not Bad
A mostly decent short story romance with a few grammatical errors and missing words. Minimal character development which covers the basics and a loosely defined mystery which is resolved by story’s end.

This was a nice story. Gideon feels a strong connection to Vanya when he finds him in the rubble of the fire and can’t help but keep thinking of him. Vanya tries to remember how he got into the building but at the same time needs to keep his secrets.
We see both characters’ points of view in this story and can see how they feel throughout the book. It seemed strange that Vanya didn’t know too much about his heritage or shifting while at the same time trying to explain it to Gideon. While I liked Vanya finding the one and Gideon finally finding the relationship he has been looking for I just felt as if something was missing.
The cover art by Kris Jacen is nice and goes well with the story.

Mystery, intrigue, a new twist on shifters , and two hot guys— both literally and figuratively. Gideon is a firefighter and Vanya is a firebird, a phoenix shifter.
When Gideon Sato finds a naked man buried beneath the rubble of a warehouse fire, little did he know that his life was about to change. The man, Vanya Stravinsky, was injured when mugged after leaving his job at a Russian restaurant the previous evening. He struggles to recall the circumstances surrounding his appearance at the warehouse, but he’s strangely calmed by Gideon’s presence and the touch of Gideon’s hands.
Vanya finally realizes that he apparently shifted to a phoenix, a “zhar-ptitsa”, after he was mugged and abandoned in the sub-freezing temperatures of Minneapolis. His instinct must have caused him to shift and seek the warmth of the warehouse fire, where instead of being burned, he found comfort. Gideon seeks Vanya out several days later and the two begin to acknowledge their mutual attraction. Vanya realizes that the warmth and tingling he feels when Gideon is near is “priznanye”, a bond that grows stronger as two people spend more time together. It will eventually lead to a strong mating bond if they continue to be in each other’s company. In a misguided effort to be completely honest with Gideon, Vanya shifts into his bird form without preparing him in advance. When Gideon storms out of Vanya’s apartment in reaction, Vanya assumes they’ll never see each other again.
There is a nice mystery theme underlying this romance, and the two men do get together again while Vanya tries to find out what really happened with the warehose fire. The police consider him an arson suspect, and he finds that he and Gideon are the only ones interested in clearing his name. There’s more action and intrigue, another fire, and another close call for Vanya as they try to solve the crime.
I really enjoyed this adventure and the mystery itself. The match of the fireman with the bird-shifter who seeks fire and heat for warmth was quirky but worked really well here. The dynamic between the two men was sweet and, though the story was short, it was quite complex. I wouldn’t mind reading more stories set in this shifter world.
I recommend this to all who would like to explore a shifter romance that doesn’t involve wolves, and to those who like some mystery underlying their romance reads. This story is a very nice way to spend a rainy (or snowy) afternoon.

This is a short, romantic, crime, paranormal story involving Gideon, a firefighter and Vanya, a chef and firebird. Mugged, and left in the freezing cold, Vanya does what he can do to survive and that is to become his other self. Now he is being accused of being an arson Turning to the man who found him in the burned down warehouse, Gideon gives his support and tries to help Vanya to absolve his involvement in the fire. Not knowing what he is uncovering, he plunges ahead into danger. In the meantime he and Gideon are dealing with an instant connection that goes deeper than sex. Good short story worth reading.

The mystery aspect of the story really had me guessing right along with the characters on what the hell was going on. I loved their determination on getting the answers, and they worked so well together in finding out the truth.
Overall, I enjoyed both Vanya and Gideon. They are both adorable and I highly recommend this to everyone.

A man is found in the still-smoldering ashes of a big warehouse fire and is suspected of starting the fire but has no burns on his body. Fireman Gideon Sato feels a connection with Vanya Stravinsky and helps him fight the arson charges. A lovely m/m romance with a little paranormal twist from one of my favorite m/m authors.

great read vanya is an shape shifter is found in an burning warehouse at first things are blurring doesn't know what happened to him. He is rescued by an firefighter Gideon together they have to find out what happened to him and along the way to romance as well.

This was an interesting short. I loved the chemistry between the MCs but I can't help but want more time for them as a couple aside from their bonding as a team while trying to clear Vanya's name.
