Everything Changes

Rate this book
Before Davy Crockett’s father dies, he tells his son that there are critical points in life where everything changes. Davy never dreamed how often his father’s words would ring true. Along life’s walk, you lose the ones you love, get left at the altar, lose your job and sink to the bottom, drowned in misery. Davy learns that his wacky family, with all their quirks, may still be a source of support in his search and their search for happiness.

A delightful story filled with engaging characters, drama, romance, and sprinkled with humor. A great read.

The life of Davy Crockett ( not that one ) is a snapshot of the American experience from the Iraq War to the subtle politics of a school board. The message is timeless: Family helps everything. I loved Everything Changes.

Great Book!

I highly recommend this book, which follows the adult years of Davy Crockett, U.S. Marine, high school principal, and superintendent through several points in his life where "everything changes." I enjoyed reading about the pivotal points in his life and how he overcame challenges along the way. I've also enjoyed the author's own journey in his writing; every book he writes is more expansive and interesting. I urge you to try this book out!

I had read Bob Williams' previous book "A Second Life" and was impressed by his graphic and realistic depiction of life in a Nazi concentration camp. When I saw he had a new book out, I was anticipating something similar but "Everything Changes" is a complete departure from the dark subject matter of WWII. Instead, the book centers on the challenges one man faces as he encounters several crises in his life and how these events mark significant turning points in his life. As a bonus, he introduces the reader to and odd and at times dysfunctional family that is well worth the reader's time in getting to know. An enjoyable read.

Outstanding Story

Ladies, before you start this book, make sure you have dinner in the freezer because you won’t be able to put the book down. Men, be sure you know how to warm up the food. Bob Williams makes you feel you are right there with the characters. There is intrigue, danger and romance. Enjoy.

I'm a big fan of Bob William's first two books so I was happy to see that he had written a third. It did not disappoint. Once again, he is in fine storytelling mode as he gives us an engaging main character, Davy Crockett, and also introduces us to his idiosyncratic family. As Davy goes through some tough times and faces a major turning point in his life, it is that odd, argumentative but loving and supportive family that keeps him on track. Like his previous books, Bob creates a whole cast of well-drawn characters and you find yourself pulling for them to overcome the obstacles they encounter. When I have recommended Bob's books to friends, they often ask what type of book he writes. I tell them that Bob is not a formulaic writer. The "East Side of Town" read like a memoir while "A Second Life" was more historical fiction. And this one? Well, like many of Pat Conroy's books, it is just a story...a really, really good story told by a natural storyteller.

“...I also want to thank you for something.”
“For what?”
“For jumpstarting my heart.”

Bob Williams’s newest novel Everything Changes is a fresh take on tragedy. Davy Crockett, our protagonist, learns to overcome the hardships thrown at him, one by one. In doing so, he grows closer to his wacky family and Gina.

The lovely language, charming characters, and intriguing story made reading the novel fulfilling and brought everything full-circle with that last conversation the Gina and Davy have in Chapter 41. His attention to word choices and plot are two of the things that makes the imagery unique and story seem lifelike. It’s a wholesome read! I recommend to anyone looking for a contemporary fictional work.
