Niels Poulsen, self-styled God of Rock and lead singer in a popular punk band, has everything he could want: family, friends, fortune, and fame. When his best friend and fellow band member, Jace, goes missing, Niels will do anything to get him home safe.

Niels discovers that their money and connections won’t help them on their journey. They will rely on an model airplane, a family secret, and a tangled magic that weaves the band into the fabric of other realms so tightly they may never make it home again. Their quest takes them across new worlds, through foreign dangers, and straight into the path of an ancient prophecy that wants Niels for itself.

If Niels and his friends survive long enough to find Jace and negotiate their way home to Manhattan, will it be worth the price? The magic says one of them will have to die…

Blue Note (The Fractured Prism, #1) by Krissy May and Holly Graf is a modern fantasy adventure novel. It has a fantastic cast of characters, cool realms, interesting magic and culture, and, of course, my favorite: the love triangle. This new series is a refreshing take on fantasy and revolves around an ever-growing number of universes of books that revolve around each other. It’s a definite must for those looking for a fresh mix to their fantasy collection.

Niels Poulsen is a Danish rock god and the lead singer of the famed band, Chainskull Death. He lives the good life, and his bandmates are his family. So, when one of them (Jace) goes missing, Niels is determined to get him back. Unfortunately, Jace isn’t on Earth. He was taken to another realm, and Niels and his friends are going to need a lot of help to get him. Of course, their journey isn’t without dangers, magic, and secrets.

Although the plot is amazing and the pacing is perfect, the characters are the ones who steal the show. They are very well-developed, and the reader really gets drawn into them and their issues. Plus, there is some really spicy chemistry there between a few of the characters (*fans self*). I also quite enjoyed the extensive lore that surrounds the story. I had the privilege of reading Inheritance Key as well (which fits into a series of universes for the books), and everything is amazingly thought out. For a fast-paced fantasy novel, there is A LOT going on.

Overall, Blue Note is a fun realm-hopping adventure. It’s perfect for anyone wanting to get into a well-done, well-planned fantasy novel without committing to a thousand plus pages of drawn out world building and extensive multi-plots. Honestly, I prefer a book like this to the epic fantasy stuff. It’s character-driven, which I prefer, and has tightly knit themes revolving around family, friends, and desire. I have to give May and Graf two thumbs way up for this one. So, if you are looking for a creative twist on fantasy, you will definitely want to spend your time with this creative gem.

Magic, other realms, friendship, love and self reliance are just a few things that are included in this fantasy action adventure. Jace, a friend and a member a band, goes missing sparking his friends and one of their mothers go one a quest to find him. They find magic the only way to try and find him. The adventure begins from there.

This is an amazing fantasy adventure. The characters are well written full of personality, flaws, talents, desires and charm that draws the reader into the story. The narrative is great giving vivid descriptions of the realms and what the characters are thinking about and their motivations. The things I enjoyed the most about this book is the amount of creativity there is and how the characters grow and develop throughout their trials. There is non stop action throughout this book. If you enjoy good action packed, creative, fantasy books then you will enjoy this one.

Modern Fantasy!

When I think of this book, the word charming comes to mind. It's well written and it’s got a little bit of everything- romance, action, adventure, death, and mythos. The prose is nice and bouncy with a great cadence between the authors. The overall tone is lighter, which does well to express the darker elements of the story.
This book is heavier with character and world-building, so even though it's solidly in the fantasy genre, it reads to a certain extent like a LitRPG, where the plot twists and turns come in more of an episodic format.
And multiple worlds there are to explore and multiple characters and relationships there are to get to know. The authors do a great job with the details. There's a fair amount of content packed into each page, so I did at points have to slow my reading pace to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Definitely a fun read and a book to certainly give a try: I mean, who wouldn't want your prince to be a rockstar. :)
