The amazing story of two exceptional California-bred Kentucky Derby winners, Swaps and California Chrome, and the man that linked them both, Art Sherman.
I didn't realize how short this book was but made for an easy read. A good summation, but the way it was written didn't get my adrenaline going/get me tearing up like a lot of racing books do. Only reason for the 4 stars.
Good read though it lacked the excitement these two greats brought to the racetrack. The connection of bloodlines as well as the trainer seems unlikely, but the stars truly aligned. California Chrome carried the hopes of many. I was there at the Breeders Cup to hear the whispers of be careful and good luck Chrome. It was a magical time.
I enjoyed reading about Swaps. What a horse! I know California Chrome's story but it was great to see the comparison. Also there was no back biting or casting blame. Art certainly was blessed to go to the KY Derby and win twice. He is a class act.
I enjoyed reading about Swaps and California Chrome, even though the book isn’t the best written. If you would like to learn more about these great Thoroughbred stallions, it is a good source for the truth rather than rumors about them.
