This should not be a secret

I did not know what to expect from this book. I had not heard of the 3 Ps before so yes they have been a secret and now they are not. A well kept secret for sure that ought not to be a secret. The 3 Ps is a simple to understand and powerful model to follow though it’s likely not that simple to apply.

A great read.

Hernani Alves writes about 3 Leadership Secrets to Win Hearts and Maximize Performance in his leadership book, Balanced Accountability. This is an excellent book for anyone who leads in any area, or if you hope to lead someday. We could also use the principles he teaches in our homes. Teaching that both the leader and the follower are accountable is lacking in our businesses and families. I love how focused the author is on bringing out the best of everyone, while building a foundation in their life that will take them further.

Balanced Accountability is told with the feeling that this author, Hernani Alves, cares about people and wishes to teach how the reader can improve themselves and their co-workers. I loved the quote at the beginning, “If you want to be successful, surround yourself with great people, treat them well and make everyone successful.” I felt I was getting the best of several authors and years of experience while reading this book. The energy and motivation that comes from this author makes you wish you knew him personally.

Great read for anyone who is in or aspires to be in lead position.

This is a well put together book. Hernani Alves does a remarkable job of mixing past experience with his research and daily observations to create an engaging and informative book. I feel like reading and applying this book would really add to a persons ability and go a long way toward setting them apart as an exemplary leader in their field. Alves focuses on accountability but he breaks it into several levels of accountability and explains the three P’s of accountability in an easy to process manner. Along with the three P’s Alves explains that a leader isn’t there to be a friend but to lead, and explains how to maintain that standing as an effective and forgiving leader while still holding each member of the team accountable for their part. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is in or aspires to be in a lead position.

The three P’s of accountability

Leadership is the key to any successful business and sets the tone for the future growth. Leadership can transform an organization into one that will prosper and grow with open communication and working together to reach new levels. Balanced Accountability is a collection of some good information and strategy to achieve the goals of any successful business. The author uses the three P’s , personal, positive , and performance accountability to guide you down the path to success. I found the information to be informative and well written with a good overall presentation. This is a great starter for anyone looking for an advantage in the leadership education department. A must have for any good leader.

This book is a great/easy read for those looking to find the key successes to leadership (more commonly known as management). Hernani offers the reader stories from his past that’ve shaped his 3P’s (Personal, Positive & Performance) Accountability program that keep you thoroughly entertained, disguising the fact that you are learning quite a bit. His writing style is fluid and non-lecturing avoiding those “nod-off” moments that a lot of self-help books often have. Whether you are in a leadership role (which let’s face it most of us are as parents, coaches, mentors, etc...) this book is a fantastic three step program to building and keeping your dream team (i.e. kids, players, employees,etc...).

Just finished my second read of "Balanced Accountability" by Hernani Alves.

Great book with Action Plans at the end of each chapter. It's an easy read with practical solutions. The 3 P's are powerful. Personal, Positive, and Performance. Double thumbs up.

The power of giving back

African-born California author Hernani Alves is the founder of Balanced IQ, a company that helps leaders build world-class teams focused on getting sustainable results in varying economic climates, an entrepreneur, international speaker, and an executive consultant.

Hernani opens his book with a reference to his childhood in Angola, Africa where his father held him accountable for chores. He uses this warmly personal manner to open the doors to his purpose for writing this book – to teach us the importance of using accountability in the workplace to improve performance with less stress and more benefits and success. The message is straightforward and poignant.

Using personal stories and sharing his insights Hernani proves that accountability equals love – just as his experience with his father’s rules he embraced as a child. He presents three types of accountability – personal, positive and performance, his 3P program. As he states, ‘Personal accountability is the most important and challenging aspect of this program. It’s important because, although it may not always feel like it, your employees want to follow you…Because our employees copy us, we need to hold ourselves accountable before we can do the same for them. We need to make ourselves better, so we can lead by example.’

It is this manner of sharing his experience and well-earned reputation as a prominent business consultant that makes this accessible book a little bible for managers. Balanced accountability equals success – and with Hernani’s guidance all readers can step up their level of happiness in the workplace and discover success at a new level. Highly recommended.

Balanced Accountability: 3 Leadership Secrets to Win Hearts and Maximize Performance by Hernani Alves is a great business book that captures what leaders need to know and do to motivate their team to help them succeed. The way the book opens with a personal history of how the author's father made him accountable, when Hernani failed to milk cow No. 1 is simply charming, yet very important to the tone and tenor of the book. Accountability is in the forefront, leading to better character, and most importantly taking responsibility for your efforts and actions. Most businesses want an atmosphere with open communication, honest collaboration, low turnover, and maximum performance, but few achieve all of these lofty goals. This book is a road map to achieve those things in your own business, because as the author states, "Because our employees copy us, we need to hold ourselves accountable before we can do the same for them. We need to make ourselves better, so we can lead by example." How you lead affects how your employees perform and follow, whether good or bad. Highly recommend for a fantastic book with a powerful message about leadership and growing a positive organization.

I worked as a manager at various companies over the years and some things that I have found that always helped me with my workers was to be consistent and fair. The author had some spot-on points such as the negative connotations the words workplace accountability has, or how important it is to consciously set expectations and pass those along to your workers. As well as one of the most important parts of being a leader: you are not there to be their friend. You can liken yourself as a parent, someone who sets guidelines and rules and expectations, but you are not there to make their work fun, or exciting or sociable.
The book is broken into chapters that tackle each of the three P’s that are the focal point in the guidance and advice the author gives you. For me, much of this information was already known but it was good to get reminders on some finer points. I think a newer manager, or one who has problems over a longer period will greatly benefit from this information.

Liked the Focus- Others!
I liked the theme of the book where focus is how to improve productivity and performance of employees to maximize their potential. Most of the books I have read are the ones that are focused on self-improvement and success BUT, this one is to help others improve that indirectly benefits you and your business. In other words, make improvements in your behavior, environment, nature, attitude, thinking, style, communication to motivate other and help them improve their performance by maximizing their potential and ultimately improve turnover. The author has stress on open communication, positive attitude and atmosphere where everyone feels important and encouraged.
A good book!

This book by Hernani Alves is designed to help you become the best leader you can be by learning how to encourage and motivate others. Alves dives into various aspects you can use, such as positivity, open communication, and performance accountability in your workspace. By using them, you’ll find that you not only help to make others feel better, but can actually create a work environment that functions well and is productive. The author also includes quotes from many famous leaders and business professionals to help inspire and encourage you even more.

The book runs at 221 pages, so it might be a bit of a long read for some. However, it contains helpful information in it that all business professionals should definitely keep in mind, making it a worthwhile read. In addition to this, Alves uses a great writing style that will captivate your mind while also being easy to read.

The first few chapters were not promising, I almost didn’t finish. I was not impressed by sports analogies or story of childhood beating/ lesson of accountability. But there were some good insights and practical suggestions for leaders regarding social media, power of language, and gift of feedback.

Not a bad book, but not new concepts either. There are much better reads out there with similar content - this is a very quick read (I read most of it in a couple hours one night when we lost power) if you want something easily digested. I mean, there is a typo (pg 185) so I question how well it was edited / reviewed.

To the point!

Easy to read with insightful quotes. Sport analogies were relatable and the quotes were inspiring. I will utilize the salient points for being a more effective coach while establishing my leadership position.

This was a wonderful book with some absolutely brilliant advice. I think the way the author goes about describing Accountability was right on the money. It is such a better way to be a leader and I am glad the author put this info out into the world. It is truly helpful.
