To be blunt, this is not the author's best work. He is trying a different writing style which is laudable, but I found it overly verbose and somewhat disjointed. Not terrible, and I'll try the next one as the world described is fairly interesting, but I'll be on a hair-trigger to drop it if the writing doesn't tighten up.

The story showed promise but in the end just dragged and dragged on until I couldn’t take it anymore. Definitely not one of his best stories.

I like the authors books but this one kind of lost me. It got a little too slow and muddled in the middle of the book.
