Lots and lots f action but a preposterous and unbelievable plot and characters,and l mean unbelievable in the true sense of the word--not believable. This novel is a comic book without the pictures. The writing is not bad and unfortunately you cannot stop reading it.

No two people ever read the same book. I don't remember who said that, but it certainly rings true of Overreach. Most of the ratings on this book are five stars. I found it to be pretty much the same as any thriller about an ex military turned hitman. Nothing to make this stand out from any other assassin/hitman thriller other than Reed's insistence that when he gets to 30 kills he's going to quit the game.
It does turn pretty violent in the end game but as the book is billed as #1, there is no suspense as to the outcome.

Very entertaining first book in the Reed Montgomery series. The reader learns he became an assassin and why. And what happened when a woman crossed his path....Just a small warning, if you have problems with explicit descriptions of violence, maybe stay away ;)

This book was entertaining, not as predictable as some. I feel like I have read a piece of the plot in a different book. I’m about to start the 2nd one to see if I get hooked on the characters.

Let me clarify. This book gets five stars for plot and writing quality. Three stars is my personal rating due to the depictions of violence turning my stomach at times.
Reed Montgomery is a marine turned assassin. I'm still not sure how that transition happened. Either I missed it or it's part of the short story prequel. Despite his membership in the illegal underworld, Reed still has conscience. He frequently ignores it to get through the 30 kills on his contract. He's finished his 29th and is eager to complete his 30th and walk away forever, but when he meets a girl who intrigues him and she gets mixed up in his final hit, his conscience kicks in and refuses to be ignored. He doesn't know just how messy things are about to get. The survival of all involved is questionable.
You get the impression from the beginning of this book that, if it was a movie, it would be R rated. Executions and interrogations are described in bloody, painful detail. It fits the story, but it had me skimming details in some places. The author also does not shy away from a smattering of language to add realism to an ex-military hit man and the company he keeps.
There was rarely a moment to breathe throughout the story. After you get through the first few chapters, it's non-stop action. Despite it being a plot driven story, I cared about the characters and was consistently intrigued to learn more about Reed's motivations and moral compass.
While I'd recommend this book with caution and careful consideration of the audience, I'll be reading book two.

Great book for any fan of total nonstop action novels. I really enjoyed this first book in the series and looking forward to continuing the Reed Montgomery story.

An indented assassin looking to gain his freedom after one last kill, but everything goes wrong when the love of a strange girl gets in the way.
Writing:
The writing was okay, not overly simplistic and sometimes quite stylish when describing the weather. Scenes were painted well enough and it was not bogged down by needless exposition.
Characters:
Reed Montgomery was a skilled enough operator, I liked his attention to detail when executing his hits, but his actions also lead one to wonder how he survived for so long in his line of work. He seemed especially too soft hearted for the person he was supposed to be and did not deserve his luck in the crazy firefights he ran headlong into for the sake of good old infatuation.
The other characters were not so notable.
Verdict:
This was a mostly promising book, and although I found the climax disappointing... I will not rule out checking out the next one.

Overwatch
I have read many series with an assassin/government killer as its basis (Larsen's Slaton, Wood's Victor, Hurwitz's Orphan X for example). I was looking for another to follow these. Reed Montgomery is a definitely a possibility. The action was very tight, the story was well paced. The minor characters were well done, especially the rag-tag vets who help out. The only part I hoped for was a bit more of the back story on Montgomery. There are kinds throughout, but lots of fill-in-the-blanks were missing. This said, I will definitely read the next in the series. A 4.5 out of 5 rating.

This was a good military thriller. Not really original, but good and well-written. Reed Montgomery is a hired killer. He was in prison on death row for a mistake he made in Force Recon and his freedom came in the form of a contract for 30 kills. Now he is on #30 and ready to leave the life behind. But love intervenes when he meets a young singer, Banks, who makes his hard heart soft again. Unfortunately she is also the goddaughter of his last target. This is very fast paced, not very long, and well-written. I'd kind of like to see where it goes so I might pick up the next one when my TBR is smaller.

Good story.
Ex special forces operative discharged for serious misconduct who gets released from prison by leader of a company which arrange contract murders. Despite carrying out twenty nine hits the operative fell for attractive women causing him to renege on contract thirty leading to the company deciding to terminate him. Resulting from the betrayal leads to kidnapping and a fast moving story of rescue and revenge although the survival of the operative despite his abilities is pushing it a bit.

We kind of start out in the middle with this book. Reed Montgomery is a combat vet who needs to see justice done, even if it means breaking the rules. This lands him on death row. He is offered a way out. Kill 30 people who need killing and he can retire. He is now up to #30, a seemingly nondescript Senator. One problem, he meets a girl and the senator happens to be her godfather. He cancels the hit, and oh, by the way, nobody retires from the company he agreed to work for. Now the target is on his back. Excellent read!

I half-way figured that this book would be like many of the thrillers I'd read before. But it didn't take long to find that it was far from a regular thriller. (Whatever regular is.) Reed Montgomery is a hardcore assassin who is, he thinks, preparing his final contractual mission but finds that it involves someone he knows but whom he didn't expect to be a part of it. This brings much more grief than he'd anticipated. But for his grit and determination this could have been a terrible failure.

Solid Debut
For a first novel, this is very well done. Great first chapter introduces main character and action right away. Last couple of chapters suffer from trying a little too hard with flowery romantic language that doesn’t fit the rest of the story. Also, I think there’s a mistake in the final action sequence ; it takes place in Atlanta, but there’s a reference to a California breeze?

Entertaining. I’ve read so many different “action” novels including Rapp, Reacher, Nobel, Fulton, etc. If there was a quarter or half point increase available I’d push this up. Planning to read more of this series. One brief section confused me as this takes place in Atlanta and during a scene Reed was “relishing” the fresh pacific air…hummmm. Maybe I need to re-read that part of see if its a memory.

This debut novel from Logan Ryles is filled with action from the very first chapter. This is a book that you will not be able to stop until the end. Logan takes you into the dark underworld of an assassin and the challenge he faces to complete his final mission. The story contains unforeseen plot twists and keeps you wanting more.

A Good Read & A New Series To Follo
This is the first time I’ve read this author who was recommended to me by several other readers, and I’m gratified that they did as it was good book.
Now to read the “prequel” and the remaining books in the series.
If you’re thinking of this then go ahead. You won’t be disappointed. I wasn’t.

First read of this author and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fast paced after the first third of the book and highly entertaining. My one negative what that too many loose ends were left at the end of the story with the obvious intent to sell another book. I like a conclusion to a story and not a continuation of the story line into the next tome. Otherwise this would have been a 5 star rating.

A BIG disappointment. I guess we are getting too many of the novels of super heroes who survive multi injuries, are able to dismiss pain and either experience remarkable recoveries or have their injuries forgotten to allow the story to continue. Super hero regularly overcoming armed groups is just too much to take.

C'mon. A professional killer with 29 kills meets a girl in a bar and stops thinking with his big head. With this brilliance he takes on the underworld, jumps on a train top going 70 mph and not only survives but stays on top, and then jumps off at 70 mph and hits a tree and basically walks away. Put some reality in this please or put a cape on him and write the book for Marvel.

wow page turner!
I nearly abandoned this book in the early pages - the language was too flowery for my taste. But I’m glad I fought through that section. It picked up quickly and I found myself reaching for my Kindle whenever I had a few minutes to squeeze in some pages. Thrilling action!

Too long for my liking. Each scene is explained more that it should, just loosening the tautness required for an action thriller. The plot was simple. The assassin for hire, Reed, fell in love with a girl. The next assignment is the girl's Godfather. Reed refuses and pisses off his employers. That's it. Not sure if I go for the next book in the series.

Another excellent book!
I am amazed that the author has an incredible imagination. I know some of the characters backstop & their future story, and it is awesome to read his craft his story. The plot is also first-rate. I am loving that he has a lot of stories to be explored! Kudos to Mr. Ryles!!

Great opening book to Logan's Reed Montgomery Series. Logan takes into the mind and dangerous, murky world of a Hit Man. We see his skills as well as his humanity, a character that seems torn by unclear forces. What Reed Montgomery does and how he seeks to carry out his job and yet protect the innocent and himself, makes a fascinating story. I look forward to reading more from Logan Ryles.

Reed is awsome, handsome and strong.
I sincerely hope there is a chance somewhere that gives Reed the "home" he needs and maybe he will see Banks again.

Reed Montgomery origin story, lots of action and intrigue. To get out of prison reed agrees to be a contract killer, 30 kills to pay back the favour. Things get tricky on his last kill, when he makes a decision that puts a target on his own back. Enjoyable but as I've read the follow up Prosecution force series which continues Reeds story I probably won't continue with this earlier series.

The book was very hard to put down. I like the character, Reed Montgomery and look forward to following him though each of the books. I am now going to read the second book, Hunt To Kill. A well deserved 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
