My Life as Kelsey
Work, rinse, repeat. That’s my summer in three words. Nothing amusing about working at an amusement park—until Stone Maverick Avery walks in with his designer sunglasses and rock star attitude. He’s totally out of my league. Oh, did I forget to mention, I’m not allowed to date?
My mom, who’s afraid I’ll end up an unwed, single teen mom like her, keeps me on lockdown from friends and boys. She insists my priorities be SATs and finishing top of my class.
As summer ends and 11th grade begins, I must say goodbye to my little bit of freedom. And goodbye to any chance of seeing Stone again.
But then it happens. That tragic event that redefines my life and turns it from monotonous existence to roller coaster journey: finding first love, learning the truth about my father, and discovering a different side of my mother. Twists and turns that teach me about all the facets of love.
In the end, will these lessons allow me to live a life of no regret or will I let my past pull me under?

This book reminded me of the pressures and struggles of being a teenager. It's emotional and real. It's intense and passionate. It's confusing and heartbreaking. I enjoyed the character of Kelsey. She was strong, smart, witty, intuitive and practical. I enjoyed reading her story, watching her grow and finally being able to admit that love is a risk worth fighting for. The pacing and flow of the story were done very well and the continuity of the writing style helped move the plot along. I would like to see a sequel with the characters in college. Overall I give My Life as Kelsey 3 stars. I think a few more chapters could have given a fuller experience to Kelsey's life, maybe something twisty and complicated, or if Kelsey had a deep, dark secret of her own.

At first, I was torn with reviewing this book. I thought the main character, Kelsey, was too focused on sex, and the PDA with Stone was more than a little off-putting. Then, I took a step back and remembered when I was 16, and realized Kelsey was acting like most every other teen.
Super smart, witty, and cautious- she could’ve been a friend of mine.
I will recommend this book to 7th graders and up.

I really enjoyed this book, but I did have some troubles with certain things here, that just didn't work as well for me, which give this book sort of a small 4 stars. I will start by saying I really enjoyed Kelsey - she's a really good character, and her relationship with her dad and how that develops was very interesting to see, and I LIKED how she faced the changes happening to her life and world!!!
Her love interest grew on me, I start my really disliking him, but you really see him growing as person and becoming more interesting - he's still not a fave but I did not dislike him. But there was a point with this story and past I was a bit unsure about, I don't think it was poorly handled or written, but it was also not the story or message I feel we need to hear right now, living in society as we do... So not a fan of that scene
Then while Kelsey's new life was super interesting to read, I was a bit disappointed how the book and Kelsey seemed to forget a bit where she came from. Also this is such a super small thing and so stupid, but the book starts with her working at a rollercoaster, and I was just so sad there wasn't more of that...
It's definitely a recommendation to anyone looking for a quick YA book and likes the trope "from rags to riches" (sort of - it's not fully this trope, but it plays with it!!!) :)

I personally thought that parts of this book went a little fast. The part with Stone in the amusement park while she was working and then with her mother. I also didn't really like her mother and how she acted towards Kelsey. I liked Kelsey as a character and her chemistry with Stone was pretty good. When I first met Stone, I wasn't sure he was going to be a big character but then he just kept coming back. I wasn't sure how I felt about the back and forth with these two though. They were on and off again more than I expected but I was glad that he was there for Kelsey when no one else really was. As I'm typing this I remember Kelsey apparently had a best friend but she didn't seem to be that big of a character. I would have expected her to be around more and help out Kelsey a little more but that wasn't really the case.
Kelsey's life was the same old same old and a bit boring. That all changed one day with a traumatic event that happened. It all happened pretty suddenly and could be considered predictable if you read between the line. It didn't really get explained before another big event occurred that took over Kelsey's life/mind. I thought the letters were an interesting touch but I was confused as to how her mother went from one end of the spectrum to the other when it came to men. My Life as Kelsey is a quick and easy read and Kelsey is a likable character. I suspect she has a bit of PTSD from what I consider abuse from her mother. Raised to think that men are evil she isn't allowed to date. She isn't allowed to have a life outside of schoolwork and her mother pushes her hard. Upon her mother's death, her grandmother tells her that her mother had no reason for hating men. When she learns of her father and goes to live with him, we find out that what her grandmother had said is true, Adam is a good man.
We follow Kelsey from her life working at an amusement park, to moving in with her father, and her experience with dating. She's having a hard time trusting her boyfriend Stone because of the years her mother brainwashed her into thinking men only wanted one thing and then they would leave. It's making for a bumpy first relationship, but Stone is a good guy. He might have had a rough past, but he sticks with Kelsey, he's caring, understanding, and patient. The only thing I'm left unsure of is why her mother put Kelsey through such hell.

From the first scene, I thought Kelsey was already a very likable person. With her being a teenager, and how she treats the kids at her job. When Stone was first introduced, with his mocking smiles and giving Kelsey nicknames, I didn’t think he would stick around long and wouldn’t be a main character. But he showed that he cared and really grew on me.
I was very shocked with the events about her mother. *SPOILERS* From reading the preview, I expected Kelsey to find a boy, and her mom not approve, which is why I was so shocked when she died in a car crash. Wow! I honestly loved this book! Our main girl Kelsey was likable and relatable. It definitely hit what a high schooler is like head on.
Although this is a romance it’s also got family issues going on too. Kelsey’s (what I deemed) emotionally abusive mom dies, she discovers her biological father wasn’t some run away jerk who didn’t want her,and she goes to live with him. We get to see this rather well adjusted girl become a bit unhinged as she can’t fully accept her mother’s death.
We also get the fun of Stone. Wait? Like The Rolling Stones? Nah, like Stone Maverick. A few chance meetings and tragedy cement the foundation to their relationship. But when Kelsey ends up at Stones school, thanks to her dad, that’s what really bring the two together.
Seriously, just read this book! It was a quick read and I really really enjoyed it.

Ehhm, got this book for free to download, so did that. The book was nothing special there was a unexpected twist at the begining but else was ordinary, guy meets girl. He will be soooo in love with her but she NEED to stay AWAY from him yada yada. An okay read, def an easy one did not excpect to much and honestly I believe that I have read to many books like this, I am sure I would have liked it a year ago and been like ohhhh Stone! But not to much now, I have out grown these books.
I believe this book serie will be cute in the way the charcters will intertwine and good for a 12/13 y/o to read. I hope that there will be some homo love as well, (even though I wont read it) so that the whole series will be "teenages finding themself" + some young love. Sounds like a cake to me (even though I do not like cake so I should have said; sound like a huge lasanga with loads of pasta in it)

This is the 1st book in a new series, and this is a great introduction. Stone and Kelsey’s story is an emotional roller coaster journey throughout. This is a well written story which has angst, emotion, twists, and is a fast paced, humorous and entertaining read. I recommend for all.

This book gave me exactly what it promised and more. Strap in and enjoy the roller coaster journey of the emotions of a girl. Ups and downs. Twists and turns. Heart-stopping emotions. You will not be able to put it down until you’re done. It kept me spell bound, and I was compelled to keep reading.
It’s fast-paced and engaging. I felt Kelsey’s emotions and understood her state-of-mind throughout her journey of loss and love. Tears were spilt . . . tears of joy, tears of heartache, tears of sadness, tears of pure happiness. Stone stole my heart and kept me captive, and Adam gets the award for Father of the Year.

My Life as Kelsey was an enjoyable read. It was able to complete the story within two sittings, it kept me gripped and wanting to know more. The main characters were likeable and some twists and turns that I was not expecting where thrown in along the way! I gave this book 4 stars as I felt the first few chapters felt kind of rushed to get the story going. A lot happened and time seemed to pass quickly but slowed down as the book went on. There is everything you would expect from a young adult story, friendship, family, romance, high school etc. I would be interested in reading the coming books in this series. Whilst reading I was easily able to picture what was happening inside my head which made me want to keep reading. Overall I would recommend this book!

This book follows Kelsey who is going through her usual summer routine of working, sleeping and repeating. You get a look into her monotonous life in the first few chapters and you learn how overbearing her mother is.
However, when an event occurs that changes her whole life, it’s Stone that helps her through it.
This book was a very easy read, I finished it in one night and loved the plot line. I felt as if more could have happened and I felt that Kelsey’s mental health should have been properly explored and help received but I suppose this supports the fact that everyone finds help in their own way.
As someone who suffers from anxiety, I can say that Anders has either researched or experienced how it feels because it was spot on. The obsessiveness and the uncertainty; it can be quite triggering so proceed with caution.
The dramatic event in this book that flipped Kelsey’s life, I felt could have been more explained. It was sudden and took me a few chapters to get my head around, and by that time Kelsey had proceeded into her new life.
Apart from that, I enjoyed the story and it’s a good book to read if you want a bit of romance.

“My Life as Kelsey” was a quick and fun read!
It has a lot of heartfelt moments and I love that every time I thought something was going to happen, the author flipped it and took it in a way that I didn’t expect. The characters are very likable and I’m excited to read the next book in the series.

This was a well written book. Kelsey’s story was so intriguing. Kelsey went a great deal she lost her mom, and found a dad she did know about. She went through a great deal of emotional issues after her mother’s death whicH just made her stronger. I encourage everyone to try this book.

I laughed, gasped, cried, yelled, talked as if I were in situations, related HEAVILY, loved the love. I loved that this tackled love from multiple perspectives and healing. This book truly healed something in me 🫶🏻 also, loved a healthy love

Kelsey’s life is boring but soon it is turned upside down. This is a positive story of finding your place in the world and growing up. An enjoyable read for a weekend.

Excellent book about starting over and discovering who you really want to be. I love how Kelsey was able to start fresh and that her new life provides her with opportunities and friends that her previous one did not. Adam and Stone are both amazing and I enjoy them with Kelsey

This was an easy and quick read. I was surprised when I had finished and my Kindle still said I had 10 mins left in the book. It ended quite abruptly.
There was something missing though. I was just waiting for that thing to happen, the thing that happens in all YA. All through the book, just waiting, but it never happened. Everything felt just a little too perfect.

I recently read this book named – “My life as Kelsey” by Victoria Anders. And here are, my thoughts about it😁😉 ———
“Live life with no Regrets…..”
This is what Kelsey’s mantra is.
Before getting into the detailed review of the book, here’s a short interpretation of it – It’s a fancy YA(Young Adult) book and describes the stages and situations a teenager has to go through when they have a family crisis.
Plot–
Kelsey Payne works as an instructor at the Roller Coaster rides. Her Monotonous instructions are just like her monotonous life. She lives in the Forest Hills which is one of the poorest locality in their city. It’s a normal day in Kelsey’s life as she works and helps people in the Roller coaster rides. But she doesn’t know that day can change her life. It all starts when a group of boys decide to have a ride. One of them has sunglasses on. When Kelsey asks the young man to remove them as they are quite not allowed, she falls for his blue eyes. But she knows her limits. According to her mom, boys are users and Kelsey is not allowed to Date. Kelsey believes it’s because she doesn’t know her father is. But is it a real story or is her mom lying? Will she ever be friends with the sunglass guy?

1. The author’s way if writing the book is very beautiful. Why? Because believe me I finished the book in 2 sittings in 2 days. It just keeps you binded
2. You never know what’s going to happen the next moment 😅😂 Like, the story has a flow…. And then suddenly something happens and you feel like screaming. To be honest, I enjoy reading these kind of books 😆
3. She explains the hardships of a teenager who is squeezed in a family crisis. Let’s be honest now, the movies we see in Netflix or wherever, describe only the good-fancy part. But where does the other FAMILY part go? Cleared, 70% teenagers go through family problems everyday . So I really like how she wrote about Real Problens and not just everything people write to gain popularity.
4. Have you watched any series on Netflix? Or Gossip Girl? Or Pretty Little Liars? Like these are the teen series and what do they represent? Fancy Life. Spend dollars every day. Do party. But does this all happen in real life? No offence to the above-mentioned-series-lovers and to the ones who really party n enjoy life… But I believe we mostly stay at home. And this girl is poor and this describes the other part of the story which we mostly miss….
What I didn’t like about the Book –
1. I felt that the story at some point, went Too fast and the part where not needed, went Too slow. That actually was a problem.
2. I completely respect the author’s views, but at some parts the short situations could be improved snd some unnecessary sub-stories could have been removed.
My Final Thoughts about the book—-
The book overall was a great experience itself. I wish I could read this book with the same enthusiasm and with the same excitement I had when I read it for the 1st time. Really, it’s like a good book to take your mind off things and have a good time during lockdown!

1. I felt that the story at some point, went Too fast and the part where not needed, went Too slow. That actually was a problem.
2. I completely respect the author’s views, but at some parts the short situations could be improved snd some unnecessary sub-stories could have been removed.
My Final Thoughts about the book—-
The book overall was a great experience itself. I wish I could read this book with the same enthusiasm and with the same excitement I had when I read it for the 1st time. Really, it’s like a good book to take your mind off things and have a good time during lockdown!

Victoria Anders has done an incredible job of writing a relatable book to what being a teenage girl is really like. I swear as I read I felt as if I were reliving high school all over again! She nailed the angst, the insecurity about everything and that first summer romance. This story had so many feels, from painfully embarrassing moments to the wonder of first love! This book was that and so much more! I highly recommend this book!!

The My Life series of books are billed as being for teens and young adults. I’m far from either in years, but I thoroughly enjoyed My Life As Kelsey. I read the Look Inside offering on Amazon, and when I read Kelsey’s interaction with the frightened child on the roller coaster, I immediately liked the character and wanted to know more about her. I wasn’t disappointed.
While reading Kelsey’s story, there was more than one point where I had to wipe away a few tears. I doubt there’s anyone who wouldn’t tear up at one very obvious point, a point I won’t go into detail about so as not to ruin the story. I only mention it to illustrate how involved I was. The author does a great job of getting through to the reader’s emotions.
The only part of the story I didn’t like was the overnight party involving alcohol. Now I know that teens do drink even though they’re not legal to do so—did it myself when I was too young. What bothered me about it was that the adults in the story were apparently okay with it. That did not happen when I was a teen, so I guess it’s my old fogey persona showing through. I know it happens, and maybe it is common with prep school students and their families. During the Kavanaugh hearing, I kept wondering “where were the parents” when there was talk of the drunken parties at students’ homes. But this isn’t a major focus of the story, and there is a drinking and drugging horror story that is raised by one of the main characters (no spoiler details here either). So the old fogey inside me was placated. :-)
All in all, My Life As Kelsey is a really good book. I think anyone from a teen on up would enjoy the story.

Sixteen year old Kelsey lives with her Mom and grandmother on the poor side of town. Doing well academically, she is still burdened with a Mom who insists boys are bad and refuses to discuss who her father was. It isn't until her Mom dies in a car accident that Kelsey learns the truth about her mother and has a chance at a somewhat normal life. But will she take it?
This well-written novel brought me straight back to my teenage years, angst and all. Though Kelsey's Mom is borderline abusive, it is clear that she loves her daughter deeply, but unfortunately, her own pain has washed over on her daughter. It is a tight story that resonates the immaturity and over emotionality that every teenager goes through as they try to deal with peer pressure, first love, and the future. Adding in the death of a parent and you have enough organic conflict (internal and external) to almost overwhelm the reader and the character without it becoming a soap opera. Well done.

A quick and fairly enjoyable read. I did find that it was a bit quick on some places, that parts of the story were rushed or details missing but I’m thinking perhaps they are explained in the books that follow?
Either way, Kelsey is a likeable character and her chemistry with reformed bad boy Stone is cute. Off again on again happened way more then I expected and I had to go back pages to figure out what was happening once or twice. The journal that was introduced I feel could have had a far bigger impact but it just kind of went nowhere. Adam was by far my favourite character. Hilarious, down to earth, just an awesome guy, he added a nice touch to the story.

My Life as Kelsey was such a worthwhile read. If you're looking for a fun, fast-paced, laughable but also kicks you in your feels kinda read, this book is for you.
I related with the MC quite often, I mean, I guess I was a teenage girl at one point. The author, Victoria Anders, does such a beautiful job crafting this story & it is thoroughly enjoyable. There are many plot twists, and the pacing was definitely adding to my not being able to put the book down.
My heart ached for the characters, not just the MC Kelsey, but her family, and boyfran.
The only real critique I could add, is that perhaps the side characters could have used some more attention, I was definitely interested in the motives of some of their actions (like Stones wtf reveal). But, none of that took away from the overall enjoyment of the story.

I was offered a free copy of this book in exchange for a truthful review. I think in hindsight that it was aimed more at a younger readership than people of my advancing years but I read it anyway.
It is a very easy to read book, It is the story of Kelsey and Stone, teenagers born on the opposite sides of the track who fell in love, both are very likeable characters. The story is a bit predictable but who is Kelsey's father and what is the secret that Stone is keeping ?
If you are looking for lots of action and nail biting suspense then perhaps this isn't the book for you, but if you want a quick, sweet, easy to read teenage romance that is well written then you will enjoy this book.

I had no business liking this book and went in thinking it was going to be just a quick enjoyable read but I was wrong. The main character Kelsey stole my heart. Following her first steps into young love with Stone who has secrets of his own to having her whole life turned upside down through tragedy. I just kept rooting for her. A feel good book and in many ways a nostalgic one for me bringing back lots of good memories. It is suitable for the younger teens as it has an innocence to the storyline but would be enjoyed by older people as well.

This is the story of Kelsey, a poor girl living with her mom who barely shows her any love. Her life is anything but exciting until a dramatic event turns her life upside down. This is a YA read and I had a great time reading it as a 40 year old. This is such a feel-good story showing you that even if you feel like your life can’t suck more than it already does, things can change. Kelsey is a truly loveable, attracting character with a mature personality for a teenager. I will definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an easy, feel-good read.
