Chuck Tennessen has embraced environmental advocacy since his childhood on a small Wisconsin dairy farm. Chuck’s compelling “Earthbound” newspaper column, in which he weaves fables of everyday life into the fabric of the global environment, has appeared bi-weekly in the Dodgeville Chronicle since 2013. Earthbound is filled with illustrations done by young artists from the Driftless area of Wisconsin.

This book is a compilation of Chuck Tennessen's essays which he wrote for his regular, bi-weekly column, Earthbound , for the Dodgeville Chronicle. I'm not familiar with his column outside of this book. I'm assuming it's written for young kids or teens. It took me awhile to get through it as you really cannot read too many essays in one sitting. I read two or three essays per evening. What I completely enjoyed is the artwork, from area school children, which accompanies each essay. Amazingly beautiful artwork included! Which made me wonder if all of our children are innately artistic at young ages and somehow it's lost in all of the reading, writing, and arithmetic? Not that there's anything wrong with math, science, etc, but what about the arts as well? After traveling to other countries, where the arts are more highly expressed, I've often wondered if we don't appreciate and promote the artistic sides of our children in the USA? The point of this book, which Tennessen most definitely accomplishes, is to instill the desire to preserve and protect our planet, Earth.
