When Basil Gentry asks for a cordial cordial, Sasha thinks he wants it for his spoiled sister Sisal. A boarding school headmistress is coming to meet Sisal, but Sisal would rather throw a party for her horse. Can Sasha and Puck convince Sisal to be friendly for one whole day?
Daniel Nayeri is a writer and editor in New York City. He wrote and produced The Cult of Sincerity, the first feature film to be world-premiered by YouTube. He has had all kinds of jobs around books, including book repairman, literary agent, used bookstore clerk, children's librarian, Official Story-Time Reader Leader, editor, copy-editor, and even carpenter (making bookshelves). He's also a professional pastry chef. He loves Street Fighter 2, hates the word "foodie," and is an award-winning stuntman.
Daniel and his sister/co-writer Dina were both born in Iran and spent many young adult years in Europe. There they learned several languages between them and tried Frosted Flakes for the first time.
In the second book, of The Elixir Fixers, Sasha and Puck try to help get rich and bratty Sisal Gentry to be nice when the headmistress of a top boarding school comes for an interview. The scenario in which this works was a little implausible, but we enjoyed it all the same.
The term "cordial cordial" was pretty clever and also provided a good talking point for my six year old about synonyms and also vocabulary since she didn't know either meaning of cordial.
Sasha and Puck have another crisis to manage, this time making the spoiled, rude girl from the local rich family polite enough to get accepted into boarding school--all so her father's not-so-magical potion will appear to work. A second good entry in the series.
