Till Death Do Us Part.My father has a lot of enemies, and after his terminal diagnosis, he has to marry me off to someone powerful enough to protect me after he’s gone. He chooses Maverick De Ville—a man that terrifies me. Rich and handsome, he doesn’t need an arranged marriage, but he does need something from my father—and marrying me is the only way to get it. We equally detest the situation—but there’s no other option. He's not what I pictured for my husband. He’s cold, calloused, and cruel. He rules his men with an iron first. He says very little, especially to me. But he’s made one thing very clear. “When people look into the darkness, they see shadows, but I see monsters. And I kill the monsters that hunt my sheep.” His job is to protect me—and he does that very well. But the longer I spend time with this enigmatic man…the more I like him. My wellbeing is his first priority, and he supports me in every way imaginable. He’s the foundation where I stand. He’s the eyes in the back of my head. The wolf that protects me. And then he becomes the man in my bed…We agreed this was a business arrangement with no emotional attachment and he’s committed to upholding those terms. I thought feeling nothing for my husband would be easy, but I find myself falling for him with every passing day. Do you ever look at someone talking and you think, how could someone be this stupid? How is all that amount of trash coming out of someone’s mouth without choking them?

Because that was me every time the male protagonist opened his mouth. I would just stare studiedly at my phone and be like, what are you even saying? The heroine was no angle herself. She was just as Stupid. Saying stupid things and doing stupid things. There were no single hint to any freakin chemistry between them.

The whole book is about them being married and living in the same house while constantly reminding each other that they are free to sleep with whoever they want. Like we get it, you guys have an open marriage and both of you are sleeping with other people, but why did they think that they should mention it every chapter? Why was it necessary for me to know that? They’re just always mentioning it. Like “hey I’m staying over another guy’s house” or the hero always bringing girls home, one of them walked out while they’re having breakfast???? How is that okay? And they’re always saying that they didn’t like each other and would never feel anything towards each other, the hero kicking the heroine out, and throwing trashy talk at each other.

I was just disgusted throughout the whole book, so don’t tell me that after all of that they would be madly in love because no that’s not how this works. There was no hint of any emotional connection between them. I know I shouldn’t have picked the book just because it has an arranged marriage romance.

This series is like cotton candy: sweet and voluminous, but lacking substance. Nothing wrong with that.

This story is really gross. Main theme of the story is a manwhore marrying an opera singer s..t. There is not any connection between the characters, no emotion, nothing but only casual sex (also with OW/OM). Heroin is a smoking, drinking, cursing, sleeping around opera singer. Hero is better than the heroin, at least with a troubled past. The theme 'rape and torture' mentioned constantly in the book, as in the other books of this author. I could not get in the story, although the beginning was promising. I wasted my time for nothing.

SERIES REVIEW:

For some reason, I have fallen down a Penelope Sky rabbit hole this last week and have apparently decided to read her entire back list. Not sure how or why this is the case, but I am a mood reader and her formula is really hitting the spot for me. So here we are.

Speaking of formula...she has a VERY obvious one. And by that I mean that her characters are almost literally the same across every single series, which I can confidently say as I have literally read five of her series (three books each) since the beginning of the year. Four of those happening in the last week.

And I'm not even joking, her male/female leads are almost carbon copies of each other. The males are all billionaire assholes with ripped physiques they cultivate through a regimented workout program and a strict diet. Except for the scotch, of course. They ALL drink scotch. They also all call the lead female by a specific nickname for entirety of each series and sometimes cheat.

The female leads on the other hand are basically female perfection personified. They are all tiny, with tiny waists, but luscious breasts and asses. They never workout, but maintain their figures despite eating whatever they want. And, of course, they are the most beautiful females to ever live. In every room they enter. And the hero always becomes obsessed with them as they are so not like other girls, you know? Because sassy and sexy and best sex ever. And they sometimes have liaisons of their own.

And you know what?

description

Cause I am loving it at the moment. It's like reordering your favorite current meal every day, knowing it's going to be delicious. And I am perfectly content to gorge myself right now.

So there you go.

I liked Maverick and Arwen, but they are probably my least favorite PS leads so far. I was also annoyed by Arwen. She kept going behind his back like she knew better and it annoyed me. The whole thing with his father was silly. Just fucking kill him. And note to Penelope Sky: Glocks don't have external safety buttons. So stop that with the constant mention of Glocks and safeties. Also a little more OM/OW stuff that I felt was a little quick and overdone. It's not a hard limit for me, but I thought Arwen's actions were gratuitous.

So I remember reading at first hating it the heroine especially and I criticized her and her character and one girl told me to learn to repect women Respect for women she said , stop with the double standards you wouldn't respect a guy manwh*re STDs walking but because she's a female I should respect her wow such hypocrisy well promiscuity is bad female or male , and for female is worse because our body is made to release a substance in sex to make an emotional connection and guess what when you sleep with a lot of multiple partners you can't make emotional connections anymore its biology and our heroine can't make a connection remember her past relationship she said she was In love and that she wanted to marry him and then after a week she started sleeping around and the heroine gonna get herself killed , a guy told her she's beautiful, she went with him and had sex with him sorry he could have been a serial killer, ahhh she was like guys can't help want more babe wake up they just want a woman whose open to no commitment.
And hero is piece of sh*t , holding guns doesn't make you strong dude but letting your past control you is weak
How can I imagine them falling in love and having connecting when them both have sex so casually like what make what they do special when they do it with everyone

✅I CRINGED SOOOOOO HARD!!!

✅AVOID THIS BOOK FROM 2 GALAXIES AWAY!!!!

✅MCs are WALKING STDs!!! Sleeping around while stuck in an arrange-marriage with each other.

✅And it does not end there....the OM/OW they are sleeping with are LITERALLY mentioned in EVERY other chapter...EVERYYYY!!!

✅And the OW/OM they both are hooking up with...are walking out the next morning INFRONT OF THE SPOUSE while they are having breakfast!!!!!!!!

✅And EVEN IF YOU OVERLOOK......ALL OF THOSE!!!!....STILL there is NO-CHEMISTRY!!!!!!!

✅You know what? I think they are just PERFECT for each other.

Dnf at chapter six because what the hell is wrong with this book??? It's so horrible.

The hero is an asshole, the worst kind if asshole there is. Trying to be so cool but ending up to be annoying as hell.

And the freaking heroine is much worse. She's a self-centered brat who thinks very highly of herself. Judging someone because they sell cheese for a living?? Oh my gosh! What a stuck-up bitch. 😑

I've had enough of these two. They annoy the hell out of me. Argh!

Fmc Arwen is forced Into an arranged marriage with Maverick who is also forced. Their Fathers made a deal. They agree to an open marriage. There’s ALOT of cheating. Maverick has women in his bedroom at the house he shares with Arwen. The women regularly show up at the breakfast table the morning after and cross paths with Arwen. However Arwen must hookup with her boyfriend Dante at his house. Double standard much???? Although there is a good story line there’s cheating going on throughout book 1 and part of book 2. This could have been better if it the cheating by Maverick was less, there was so much
That it got old fast and diminished Maverick
Into a one dimensional cliche. Both MC’s cheat.

First of all, here are the warnings not mentioned in the blurb:

This is a serial (3 separate parts - The Wolf and the Sheep, The Wolf and his Wife, The Lone Wolf)
Cheating/open marriage - both main characters are bumping uglies with other bit characters

I kept reading this crazy story, never sure what was going to happen next. Quite different from the author's previous stories as Maverick and his father are feared/respected but we are never told why (in previous series, we knew the Barsettis were arms dealers, Griffin has an assassin, Bosco was the crime lord, Cato was the banker for both legal and illegal fronts). The DeVille familial relationships are twisted and the causes have not been brought to light (as of the end of this segment). Maverick is an enigma and I am anxious to see how his character develops. Even though all the smexy times are consensual, the married couple are not exclusive (that is a turn off for me and - from what I remember of previous series - a first from this author).

As you can see by my comparisons to previous series, this is something unique that has grabbed my attention. Even with the cheating, it is a great story of revenge and protection and the slowly developing relationship between a wolf and the oblivious sheep. I cannot wait to see how this story unfolds.

Grab it but beware the warnings (I hate when authors get bad reviews because warnings were not heeded). Penelope Sky has graciously allowed me to be part of her review team and I review hoping to lead others to this author. My personal favorite is the Lingerie series - the Griffin/Vanessa ( Griffin is my favorite character - EVER) and Bosco/Carmen are my favorite couples.

Ok, wow.

Let me just say that if you can get over a total manwhore that is possibly the greatest asshole you've ever read about, then you'll want to read this.

A lot of people complain about the heroine sleeping around and have even used the s word (slut), but fuck them. If a woman can't sleep with other guys while the hero fucks an endless string of ONS, then I don't want to hear it, read it or even know about it.

Self note avoid this series. (Spoilers)

MCs are in an open marriage (arrange marriage) they both sleep with op, and h can hear him have sex with ow. This is not cheating.

End of book 2- after MCs are “together” - H does cheat.

I actually got to 22% in my kindle app after the sample, but I'm done. I really didn't like the h. Her "stubbornness" was simply annoying. Everything felt too forced and I didn't think there was even a smidge of chemistry in their interactions so far. I was wanting some angst, and the only angst I think I would feel would come from the process of reading the rest of this book 🙊

vandaar dat ik deze opnieuw gelezen heb. Dit blijft echt een spannend verhaal, het begint vijandig en het zal evolueren dat ben ik zeker. Blijft 5 sterren waard!

I don't know where to start with this 😔

I had really high hopes for this series as I absolutely loved Buttons & Lace.

The story was ok, I wasn't a fan of reading about them sleeping with other people while married..yes neither wanted it in the first place!

I won't be reading any further, I read a few of the spoiler reviews for the 2nd & 3rd book and felt I got what I needed without paying for the 2 other books which are quite pricey.

I was so excited to read this after the blurb. Arranged marriage + protective alpha is just the perfect combo! But unfortunately it was a disappointment.

There wasn't much chemistry between Maverick and Arwen. They were so abrasive towards each other for most of the book - and not the sexy, smoldering kind. Their barbs were straight up harsh. It was painfully clear that Maverick didn't truly care about Arwen. He was just upholding his bargain. Arwen also seemed to be an uptight princess. Though she softens towards him, it just felt like she was grateful for his protection since he wasn't nice in any other aspect.

Also, it bothered me that they continued other relationships for most of the book. Even though they had an arrangement, it still felt a bit icky... especially since it made their progression to becoming a couple feel sudden and unrealistic. I just didn't buy that their connection was anything but convenience, as though they had gotten too lazy to hunt down new bedmates.

I only have two complaints.

1…Location
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, grounded this book in Italy. I kept forgetting it wasn’t set in America, especially without language cues. You can’t just say it’s taking place in Florence and that’s it. Especially when you ignore the most obvious way to ground characters…like names.

2…Names
H - Maverick DeVille
h - Arwen Chatel
HBFF - Kent
H’s Dad - Caspian DeVille
h’s Dad - Martin Chatel
H’s lovers - Becky and Bernadette
h’s lovers - Dante and Henry
Maid - Abigail
Other than the throwaway character of Dante, no one has an Italian name. The h is supposed to be 1/2 French…so maybe, but Arwen is a name MADE UP by JRR Tolkien. Literally, he made that name up. This was a bigger fail than the fact location was not grounded in Italy.

The Wolf and the Sheep is not typically my kind of book that involves cheating/open marriage but I trust the author enough to deliver a good story. And she didn't disappoint, I find myself immersed in the story of Maverick and Arwen. Interesting characters and unconventional relationships really piqued my interest to continue this series. Looking forward to the next one.

Personally for me this book was a bore.

The first chapter was a hint enough and I should've dropped this then and there but I went ahead hoping to be proven wrong, yet only to confirm that yep I was right, it was a bore.

I didn't even enjoy how the book began. The hero seemed like a doormat instead of an Alpha male that I was expecting.

Most of the times, I don't enjoy OM/OW in my romances, unless they're written about very discreetly or a past fling. But here OMs and OWs are a thing of present thus another reason I did not enjoy this read.

If the FL was dumb, the ML was dumbest.

They had ZERO chemistry. Not even a hint. Nope.

We get it ya'll! You both wanna sleep with some other people even after the marriage but quit announcing it in every other chapter for god's sake.

At this point I think I should stop reading the author's books since they're clearly unappealing to my taste buds. Most of the reviews here indicate that this book was a definite success, but I don't think her books are it for me.

Okay, when Arwen said: "I almost did something stupid last night, I almost slept with my husband," well... they lost me, are you serious?! What a stupid thing to say! It's your fucking husband, the one you need to have kids, hello? Because you're the one who wants children eventually, and do you know how children are made?

I thought this was a mafia type thing with an arranged marriage but it isn't exactly like that. They have an open relationship but it is fucking annoying that in each chapter it's described in vivid details that one or the other is constantly fucking with other people and rubbing it in the other's face.

Spoiler alert: He ain't no wolf and she ain't no fucking sheep.

I really like Maverick. He's an ass but a totally redeemable ass. I would have liked this better if they didn't have an open relationship, but it makes sense in context with the story. Arwen was in danger. Why did Maverick let her go wherever she wanted without a bodyguard? Anything could have happened to her as soon as she left the house. She didn't even carry a weapon. Even though she knows she in constant danger, she still hooks up with random men. Any one of them could be one of the men after her.

It is very hard to write this review because I love PENSKY's books. I love the way all her alphas have been written . Let me start with what I do like. I like the title of the book and the trope and that's it.

Maverick ,the hero ,is supposed to be "THE WOLF", but we don't get any wolfing. Arwen is supposed to be "THE SHEEP", didn't get any sheeping.

This story is about an arranged marriage between this couple , one father wants this marriage for revenge and the other out of love and protection .

My problems with this book are the H is too weak and allows himself to be mentally, emotionally and physically abused by his father. The MC sleep with other people after becoming vigorous lovers, It took something away from the book. The h is left to go about her life even though she is marked. In this book random guy walks up to her and she has sex with him. He could have been "the bad guy".

Maverick's father's pain because of his wife's death is the only worthwhile thing about this book. I wish she was given to the father because he has passion. I think it would have worked better if Maverick was the widower in pain.

**SPOILERS**

I'm really on the fence about this book. I've always loved all of Ms. Sky's books, but the blatant OW/OM references and scenes in this book kind of bothered me. I can accept OW/OM to an extent, but definitely NOT after the MC have been intimate. I understand that it is a marriage of convenience and that there have no emotional ties to each BUT that was a little much especially considering their attraction and relationship growth up to that point. That's where this story plummeted for me... Honestly, the H is so hot and cold sometimes I'm not even feeling much romantic vibes between the MCs. Plus, the h is a little harsh given that the H was super considerate and supportive after he father died. The h also is a little too aggressive in her actions for my taste. The story has a good premise and the plot is intriguing, but the MCs have some major flaws. I think the overall story arc can be salvaged just because this author is talented, but this initial installment will need to be seriously redeemed in the next book... This might be the first series by this author that I give up after book #2.

this book should have been named " the omega wolf and the slutty sheep". wolf my a***ss:)) he gets punched by his father, threatened by him, and shot, he does as his father says and yet he is a powerful and mighty wolf. yeah, right.

and the sheep... I am wasting my time
a lot of repetitive and boring sex scenes and I got bored of the expression " fat dick" .

Update - second read. 4* , but I skip read a lot 🤪
