Captive is the second book in Kathryn Kohler’s new Challenge of Immortals Series. It is a quick, intense paranormal love story filled with great characters, drama and a happily ever after with no cliffhangers. This book is written in third person from the perspective of the both the heroine, Leyla, and the hero, Cozumel.
Leyla is a fairy and singer dreaming of making it big with her music. Cozumel is a hybrid vampire who’s role in life is the hunt blood donors for the vampire community. They meet at the Coy Kitten, where Coz is hunting for a fairy blood donor. When they meet, the chemistry between them is hot and intense, but Coz must take Leyla in if he’s to make a new for himself. Can the feelings they feel for each other lead to a happy ending in which both get everything they’ve ever wanted? Read it to find out!
I love the world that Kohler has created. I can’t wait to read more of this series. This is a voluntary review of an advanced readers copy.
Once again you enter the world of the Immortals, but this time you get to learn about the vampyre faction. In the midst of the World Wars, the vampyres attempted to grow their numbers by sleeping with humans, the result being hybrids. Cozumel is one such creature. He may look human, but he's still got vampyre traits but is able to venture to the human world and do the Vampyre Senate's bidding by capturing fairies to be blood slaves. Leyla is his latest capture, but she awakens feelings in Coz that he doesn't know how to deal with. Their connection crosses species and causes Coz to take a chance on a future he never imagined for himself. The story is captivating and gives the reader an interesting look into the lives and politics of the vampyres in this world.
This is the first time I have read a book in this particular genre & I will admit that it is an intriguing vampire/fairy romance which I enjoyed reading. The story-line & plot is interesting and well-written. The characters are well developed and realistic with their emotional feelings. There is: a hybrid (half vampire & half human) is ordered to hunt & obtain new blood donors for the nest (Cozumel), a fairy who unintentionally awakens Cozumel’s emotional feelings (Leyla), the vampire council, a jealousy & insecure vampire elder (Gerald), twists & turns, intrigue, threats, danger, devious plans, deceit, fear, desperation, attractions, betrayal, manipulations, emotional turmoil, memories, confrontations, vengeance, love & a satisfying conclusion.
An interesting storyline Vampire and Fairy. The Fairy is needed to keep the Vampire alive. This is the first of this kind that I have read. This book is very well written and the characters are interesting. It is very entertaining. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and gave my honest opinion.

I liked that Cozumel started out hunting for a donor and found Leyla and was drawn to her. They had quite a journey to find their love. I thought this was an interesting read just not my favorite. I received an ARC and am leaving my honest and voluntary review.
