For three years, Rixon Caldwell has been the most lethal gamer online. He is undefeated in international play and his stream is viewed by millions of avid fans each and every day.
When an unsigned email arrives inviting him to beta test the newest, most immersive MMO ever, Circuit World, he discounts the offer out of hand. For him, offers like this one are a daily event. He’s a brand, and charity is not his default setting.
When he moves to delete the email, his laptop screen vanishes, replaced with a glowing black and green MS DOS screen with a simple question: Do you accept our challenge? Y/N
Warning: this book contains untraditional relationships, violence, and a harem.
Daniel Pierce lives in Wyoming with his wife Marissa and their two dogs. After fourteen years as an engineer, Daniel decided it was finally time to write and release his first novel.
As a lifelong fan of scifi and fantasy, he wants nothing more than to share his passion.
To be completely honest I really struggled through this book. I only gave it a 4 star rating because I’m a huge fan of the author, but this was definitely not one of his best stories. Slow, not much action, lacking in depth, and the characters seemed a little underdeveloped.
I know' that I hear the audiobook of this one but for the life of me I can't remember anything about it, what I can remember? the MC could have been called Narcissus..
The story was decent and the main character reacts in a believable way when he finds himself in the RPG world. The plot was well executed with the story set up to introduce you to the series and the characters. Overall it was ok with some decent action scenes. To me it needed more elements of the RPG world and I hope that the author would expand on the characters being able to use the user interface.
Rixon, aka Si1ence, a top level gamer, is pulled into a a new game. The reality is amazing. He begins to wonder if he may be in an alternate reality. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to another book.
Rixon Caldwell, aka “Si1ence”, is an internationally famous gamer. His streaming video game reviews have garnered millions of avid viewers. He is mysteriously challenged to beta test a new MMORPG and accepts the challenge. No instructions, no character creation, and no idea what to do or where to go. Si1ence believes he is in a cutting-edge virtual reality game but as time goes on, he begins to doubt. The story is limited with game mechanics, occasionally delivering some experience, a skill, or a level up. It just barely rates the LitRPG genre. IMO the story is light in character building, world-building, or any kind of building. The character interactions and conversations are on the light side as well. It has a low-budget feeling overall.
First book that I've read from this author. I'll give one of his other series a shot since the descriptions look promising. But this book was definitely a letdown, being written both simplistic and storyline and progression at the same time being extra wordy. It's kind of hard to explain. It almost felt like the story was written relatively quickly at one level and then went back and did simple rewrites of the sentences to make them sound more educated. As far as the story goes, again it was promising but I couldn't get into it and almost stopped multiple times. Things happen too quickly and easily with no real struggle at all. Even for a harem based book, they seem to just throw themselves at the main character for no reason at all.
Starts a little slower than Pierce's other books. A very interesting story with a ton of potential. This one definitely spends the time to lay the groundwork for characters and world, and provides plenty of detail on things in a way to remain promising for the next book. I'm definitely interested in the next one.
A very well-written book with a vibrant world and much litrpg elements that are sort of muted but it makes the book even better or maybe I should say the litrpg elements pop up throughout the book but they're somewhat tricky probably one of the best books I've seen in the last several months and definitely a must-read for litrpg fans everywhere.
Daniel Pierce is consistently good at making clearly realized characters with understandable motivations. This book isn't super 'special' or 'memorable' but it's very solid easy to follow and entertaining for a one off read.
What a fun book to read. The world created in this book is just so incredible and the characters are so interesting. It’s just a great book and I can’t wait for the next one.
I’ve started 5 of Daniel Pierce’s book series so far, trying two books in two of them & stopping at one each for the other three. Each Series having an interesting sounding blurb based on Sci-Fi/Fantasy plot lines that were potentially fascinating and in many ways equivalent to dozens if not hundreds of other books I’ve read & enjoyed. These books have earned an average rating of 1.1428 Stars, per book I’ve sampled from the books I’ve tried. To say it another way, I’m writing this in March 2024, and my notes say I read all of these books of his last year, yet I recall almost nothing from the time invested.
Interesting dialogue quotes in my notes? No. Philosophical pondering since Sci-Fi so often lends itself to metaphor & approaching modern problems from unique paradigms? Nope, none of that either. Harem romances or sex scenes to drool over? Nada!
So, do yourself a favor while also saving yourself some time and AVOID THIS AUTHOR like the plague! It’s drivel-on-a-stick.
Now I know for sure that I don't want to play RPGs. The story is boring and unimaginative virtual sexual victories of the incel protagonist are pathetic.
