The Elliot Brothers #2

Testing Miss Toogood

Rate this book
Fleur Toogood is beautiful, opinionated and has a disastrous inclination to speak her mind. And she refuses to marry without love. But as the most eligible of Reverend Toogood's five daughters, she has been charged with making a brilliant match that will improve her family's fortune. So to appease her father, she agrees to be escorted around London by Lord Dominic Elliot.

But Lord Dominic proves to be a most arrogant and secretive chaperone. He takes his duties toward her very seriously, though he shows little interest in her otherwise. Worse, he insists on giving the most annoying advice—advice she doesn't need because she has devised "The List," questions designed to assess a male's potential as a satisfactory husband, knowing no man can meet her high standards. But as she is introduced to one eligible gentleman after another, it becomes painfully clear—the only man who scores high enough to interest her is Dominic himself.

I've been hitting a book slump lately. This was ok as far as romances go.

It had its moments, but they were too few. I felt as if I were reading a good author who thought she could write a regency novel, but did not do her complete research first. Manners and language were way off. But, it was a good story.

Other than the fact that you could make a drinking game out of every reading of "...all but..." it's a pretty fun book. Very steamy. It was terribly annoying though, it was nearly every three pages she had to use that catch phrase, "..she all but threw herself," "...he all but this," "she was all but that," I all but threw the book out of the freakin' window.

X. London 1815. Cameron has easy modern style that heats up. Fleur gets into one "awful pickle" after another. Dom has "devilish" glint that melts the innocent's legs to jelly. Both rip off clothes, his and hers.

Lord Dominic 30 and brother Nathan chase The Cat. The villain kidnaps and ransoms girls of the Ton, threatens their virginity and lives. Dom's Dowager mama puts her son in charge to escort vicar's daughter Fleur 20 on first Season "things".

Clichés. Couple are exceptional looking. She has red hair therefore feisty. His black hair is "overlong" 3.36 (so long is normal).

Her List are a score of curious questions about a suitor, from light to deep. "3. Does he like cats? .. 18. Will he join me in learning exotic ways of lovemaking? " 14.212

Typos: 10.146 prays preys 14.202 tonight", Fleur IS .. Snowdrop 15.221 which he IS .. she 20.320 reigns reins 27.441 with splat IS with a splat 33.547 rolled roiled

I would almost swear that I have read this before but since it was still on the shelf amongst my other TBR books, I pulled it out a few days ago. If indeed I have already read it, apparently it did not make a huge impression on me at the time because nothing in it rang a bell. Cameron is a hit-or-miss author in my estimation. I have thoroughly enjoyed some of her historical fiction but I do not care for her contemporary books.

This story was somewhat formulaic (how much can one really change up early 19th century Great Britain?) but also fun and sweet. It featured a good many peripheral characters which led to a little confusion, but everything comes together pretty well by the end.

Fleur Toogood has been charged with finding a good match. This involves being squired around town by Lord Dominic Elliot. He's not impressed with this but he is amused by her list of essential qualities. A list that Fleur is becoming to realise is difficult to find a man to match with. As time goes on she starts to realise that Dominic is probably as close to perfect as she is going to find.

It was entertaining and the two main characters caught my interest.

It was okay, overly long. If the book followed the teaser at the back, it would have been a fun light read. instead the teaser in the back was a mere subplot to the main story involving a weird drawn out serial virgin-ladies kidnapper that wasn't very mysterious, but did provide a steamy almost rape-like scene.

The best part of this book was the last pages. I almost found myself wishing "The Cat" had gotten his way. I found the characters so sugary sweet it was almost nauseating. Thank goodness I have finished reading it never to be picked up again.

Storia insulsa e senza senso..
Da dimenticare...

Just OK for me.
A little predictable and the heroine is an idiot. Ugh I cant stand characters like her.

If it would have been possible to give less then one, I would have.
This was an awful book, the only reason I finished it was I was camping and few other choices for books.
