Humans learn by association. Every concept that you understand is connected to an earlier concept. So then, what happens if you retrace those connections? Wouldn't you eventually find a starting point? Indeed, you would. The Tangled Mind argues that a few sensory concepts sculpted your perception of the world. If you understand these principles, you can influence how people perceive anything — prices, websites, advertisements. And you'll see how these concepts have sculpted deep-rooted beliefs and values (e.g., morality, religion, politics).
I read this book because I came across Nick's 1st book of Methods of Persuasion which was fantastic book (I Made a 5 star review indeed as one of its kind) and i call it a must be read book indeed.
In fact while this book may have some value but it has main 2 issues that got me review it as 2 stars. The problem of this book was the issue that nick took his analysis too deep to a point made it unrealistic and inapplicable in most of the cases with so much complexity. Moreover, in his attempts to sounds more of a scientific approach, nick used more of tough vocabularies and sophisticated terms, which you may feel that you are reading a thesis not a book. The second was the over use of reference to experiments which a bit old and was interpreting the lost of the most effective storytelling style that he excelled at in his first book.
If you need to have real value and indeed the most interesting ideas in the art of persuasion, you need to read his 1st book Methods of Persuasion.
