Most books on coaching and business focus on surface-level actions like list building, client generation, and marketing. This book, however, recognizes that unless you address the deepest, most unconscious “shadow” layers of your operating system, you will self-sabotage your growth at every level.
Your shadow is composed of your fears, old trauma, and insecurities. It’s the reason why most business owners struggle to stand out, attract ideal clients, and create consistent revenue.
Here is the magic: your shadow actually contains the secrets to accessing your unique genius and gifts that can help you powerfully connect with your ideal clients and become an unstoppable leader in your industry.
The powerful techniques in this book have been adapted from ancient wisdom, behavioral psychology, and the author’s private coaching practice. Anna shows you proven methods in an easy-to-practice format that will help you clear your biggest revenue blocks, identify your unique identity as a coach, and create a structure for your thriving business.
Included in this book is the author’s guide to building a six-figure coaching practice, with tools that have helped her students and clients create sustainable growth in their businesses and bring in an additional $5,000–$20,000 in monthly revenue.
This book is a must-have for coaches and entrepreneurs in all industries.
This was probably one of my top most-loved self help books. Something about it just really works.
It's not preachy, and not does it spoon feed you or shove anything down your throat. Its inspirational and highly motivating in an organic way that focuses on inner work and healing, the opposite of more superficial "hype-yourself-into-action" self-help approaches. It's a very real, very good approach and it really does feel as though the author has lived through the contents and overcome them to her success. It really makes you feel as though "yes you can" in a way that's embodied and flows from your best self.
It's a quick read that simply makes its points and lets you run with it. It doesn't waste time gushing with longwinded explanations. I really appreciated that, especially since it is written for coaches, who presumably have experience enough to coach themselves with enough inspiration. Really like that about it.
The only thing is this. While the content itself gets 5 stars, I will say this: the book needed more editing. It felt unpolished in a lot of places, though it got away with it because of the simplicity and streamlined quality of its message.
This book hit me deep. It was as if the author had followed me around the for past decade within my coaching business. All my doubts, fears, triumphs, and growing pains mirrored by someone else.
I love the connections she makes between business and self (many I had not considered).
I give this 4 stars because I wanted her to provide deeper exercises for the work. But like most books, I appreciate this as a solid entry point.
I loved everything about this book. At first I wasn't sure because there are so many books out there on Shadow Work that lead to missconception on Shadow Work and what it actually means and how it should be presented. Annas definition and explanation is genius + the tasks in the book really help you sort out some inner work. I would recommened it to any coach & person that wants to start or do some inner work.
I read a wide variety of non-fiction books under the general umbrella of leadership and personal development on a regular basis, and Anna's book was the latest on my bedside table.
Shadow Magic: Turn Your Fear Into Fuel and Create a Prosperous Coaching Business presents a useful framework beyond just developing a coaching business: her ideas will help anyone reduce wasted time, step into the light, and do the work they need to do in the world. Beyond concrete advice on the steps to build a better coaching practice (of which there's plenty) – each page had me taking notes, and wanting to put down the book and get moving. The book is concise, and full of useful information – but it ended up taking me a few weeks to read because I found myself taking notes, pausing, and then doing something after each moment where her words helped me to connect specific dots as a business owner.
Anna Tsui is highly adept at helping people step in their best self. I have had the privilege of seeing her speak, lead workshops, and successfully coach people ranging from executives to peers. She has the knack of giving wisdom that's immediately actionable, and speaking to a range of personalities: from the corporate suit, to the free spirited creative.
