Jamie Vaughn loves her charming little town of Waterford, Oregon and is working hard to make her romance bookstore a success. She knows that businesses are struggling but is hopeful that things will eventually turn around. When her former high school sweetheart, Sawyer, arrives in Waterford, working for a property development company that wants to buy all the small businesses and turn it into a bigger and more modern retail space, Jamie becomes determined to save all the stores, including her beloved bookstore from being torn down. But the more time she spends with Sawyer to remind him of their wonderful hometown and hopefully, convince him to stop the redevelopment project, the more she finds herself falling in love with him all over again.

The Story of Us by Teri Wilson is a sweet and lighthearted Valentine's Day themed love story that Hallmark fans are sure to enjoy. I loved the romance-themed bookstore setting, and the old love letters were a sweet touch and just added to the romantic Valentine's Day atmosphere of the story. Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes in the romance genre. There's just something special about a couple finding their way back to each other after a long separation and overcoming the past to give love a second chance. Jamie and Sawyer's romantic history and wonderful chemistry together made it very easy to root for them as a couple. I also enjoyed the romance between Lucy and Rick and found myself laughing out loud during some of their interactions.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen to Jamie's bookstore and was very satisfied with the ending. I definitely recommend this book. It's the perfect Valentine's Day read.

I received an ARC from Hallmark Publishing through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I watched the Hallmark Channel Original Movie starring Maggie Lawson and Sam Page. I enjoyed "The Story of Us" (both the book and the movie)! Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday. "Valentine's Day is one of the best days of the year, and you don't have to be in a relationship to enjoy it" (pg.239). I loved the surrounding ambiance-of red and white roses, chocolate, the Fire and Ice Festival, handwritten love letters, heart shaped foam in the coffee and the center of it all - the True Love Bookstore and Cafe! Books and literary Authors are mentioned throughout the story like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, the Princess Bride, Romeo and Juliet and of course, Persuasion by Jane Austen (a comparatively similar storyline). This is my first time reading a novel written by Teri Wilson. I loved all the characters and the romances (Jamie + Sawyer (plus Matt!), Rick + Lucy and let's not forget Harris + Mary). There was a lot of... Will They or Won't They? moments. The author shows the emotions and perspectives of Jamie and Sawyer's Love Story. I loved Wilson's imagery and writing style. So many times, I laughed out loud, like when Sawyer's bowl overflowed with arugula or when Rick makes the "gotta go make risotto" excuse or when Anita tells Jamie that she and Sawyer are NOT characters in a book or when a book club pours over the latest Hallmark romance novel at the bookstore. I loved the local shops at Waterford. I want to buy Anita's flowers and eat lunch at the Pizzaria. The message of the story is: Fight for True Love (literally and figuratively!). There is an Epilogue showing Lucy + Rick and Jamie + Sawyer one year later. Rick's recipe of "Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto" is shown in the back of the book. "She couldn't imagine a better happily-ever-after ending" (pg. 175).

Is the Book "The Story of Us" better than the Movie version?

Jamie and Sawyer were high school sweethearts. 15 years ago, Sawyer broke off their relationship before he left for college. To say Jamie was heartbroken would be an understatement. She held onto the hope that he would return home after college, but it never happened.

Now here they are, face to face, after all these years. They both had longed for and dreaded this moment. Everything was going fine until Jamie discovers that Sawyer works for the very company who's trying to buy out all the shop owners in the business district so they can tear everything down and replace it with a monstrosity of a building.

But Jamie refuses to go down without a fight. She will do everything in her power to not only help the shop owners to see that Waterford is rich in history that shouldn't be destroyed, but help Sawyer to see that this new building is not what their small town needs. Help him to remember all the things he loved about their small town and to see where he's belonged all along.

When I woke up this morning and looked outside, I thought spending the day reading would be absolutely perfect. So, I curled up in my comfy chair, grabbed my kindle, and was transported to the small town of Waterford, OR.

I instantly fell in love with the small, quaint town and it's characters. The descriptions of everything and everyone had me feeling like I was right there, living and breathing in the story. I got a front row seat to the magic of love.

I absolutely adored Jamie and Sawyer! I'm a sucker for second chance romance, so I was rooting for them from the very beginning. This book was just what I needed today. 😊

Confession. I have not watched The Story of Us. In all honesty, I have not even seen the advertisements for it (as you can probably guess by my casting 😂). I'm one of those people who enjoy the book more than the movie. Why? Because I have the opportunity to be inside the characters' heads. To know their thoughts, their ideas, their struggles, their fears, their feelings. It's not something a movie can easily portray. Having said that, I know that after reading this book, I'm going to be able to enjoy the movie so much more.

My first book by Ms. Wilson was a hit. I'm looking forward to checking out more of her books.

And of course we can't forget my casting. I know... I know... these are not the actors in the movie, but it's who I saw the entire time I was reading. Haha.

An unapologetic ode to loving romance, The Story of Us is a charming small town, second chance romance following a heroine who loves books, specifically love stories and owns a book store and the hero, her high school sweetheart whose returned to town as a development team that has intentions of wiping out the livelihood of the heroine’s bookstore.
As a fan of Hallmark movies, if I didn’t know this was published by them I’d say it feels like the perfect hallmark movie! I think we need more sweet and charming romances. This one definitely hit the spot.

The Story of Us by Teri Wilson is an excellent Valentines-themed sweet romance. This is the second book that I have read by this author, and I loved it just as much as Love at the Shore.

I enjoyed the traditional plot of two people separated by distance and time finding each other again and overcoming the odds to find themselves and one another. However, the author’s ability to create interesting details, like able characters, beautiful imagery, smooth and intriguing prose, and a realistic and satisfying plot make this book a true winner.

I loved Sawyer and Jamie. I loved their history, interactions, and chemistry. I was very satisfied with their ending. I also loved Lucy and Rick (and yes Eliot) and I loved their chemistry as well.

I loved the location in small-town Oregon and felt as if I was actually there amongst the pink and red glittery hearts. I also really, really liked the author’s inclusion of Harrison and Mary’s letters. So romantic!!!!

5/5 stars. Perfect in every way.

Thank you NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for this ARC and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.

I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon and B&N accounts upon publication.

The Story of Us by Teri Wilson is a well-written, feel-good, heart-warming story of unassailable hope, persevering true love and second chances. The characters are all likeable, the town is picturesque, the friendships are faithful and the heroine is strong and admirable. I adore the fact that the plot takes place primarily in an independent bookstore, in a quintessential town. I loved the use of quotes, book references, and the classics with an added historical element to the plot.

It was just a thoroughly enjoyable, sweet, inspiring love story. 💖

A book based on second chance romance, with small town romance mixed in it, along with a bookshop owner and an architect naturally brings one word in mind - Magical. And this book was magical. Throughout the book I was focused on the descriptions of the place and boy, did I want to go there!
The romance was as magical as the setting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blurb - Jamie is the owner of True Love, a cafe bookshop. It's been her dream since childhood to become a published author. She used to go to True Love and think about owning it one day. That's where she met Sawyer for the first time. They became highschool sweethearts but then broke up only to meet after 15 years. But now circumstances have changed, especially because they are on the opposite sides and victory for one would mean destruction fir another.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sawyer and Jamie truly were a treat to watch. And there's another couple in there which were very adorable. Lately I have read a few novels wherein I was not able to feel the tension between the main characters but this is definitely not one of them. And that's the beauty about second chance romances. It was truly an amazing read!

I was provided with an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Story of Us is a love letter to books, community, and – most importantly – love in all its forms. Teri Wilson manages to deliver a Valentine’s romance that is incredibly sweet without ever edging into saccharine territory.

Jamie may be on a romantic hiatus – the current love of her life is her cat, Eliot – but she believes in true love. More importantly, she believes in True Love Bookstore and Café, the bookstore she owns that has been her lifelong dream. Jamie also loves her picturesque Oregon town, but the business district is suffering and a retail development company is closing in, determined to crush the district and turn it into a generic retail space. Jamie is determined to save her bookstore and the business district, but she doesn’t count on the architect the developers send in: Sawyer, Jamie’s high school sweetheart.

Sawyer and Jamie are at loggerheads for much of The Story of Us . Both of them have opposing goals and have solid reasons for trying to swing the town council vote their way. How this storyline plays out is predictable, but any other outcome would have been unsatisfying given the circumstances. Being on opposing sides is no match for true love, especially when Jamie discovers old valentines and love letters in her bookstore. Both were an incredibly sweet touch; the letters especially as they have an important lesson for Jamie and Sawyer. The push-pull of love that never died versus opposing goals did start to drag a bit, I will admit. Still, I could not help but be charmed by the delicate sweetness of the story overall. The Story of Us is a lovely romance with nods to The Shop Around the Corner/You’ve Got Mail, which makes it a perfect Valentine’s Day read.

Between 3 1/2 and 4.

Super cute story!

I didn't watch the movie, so I don't know how it compares.

Jamie loves her town and especially the bookstore she owns, True Love Bookstore and Café. When talk of a new development for the downtown area becomes more of a reality, she fears for her bookstore.

And then Sawyer comes into town, the one who got away. It's been about 15 years since they last saw each other, and he's now the architect working on the designs for the development.

The conflict between them is real, what with Jamie wanting to save her store and downtown historic area, and Sawyer wanting to bring it up more modern. As the sparks reignite between them, they're at odds with each other and their attraction.

I loved the ending!

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

A Valentines story of second chances. This novels is based on the Hallmark movie with the same title. Jamie and Sawyer were high school sweethearts. That was a long time ago. Jamie was left broken hearted. When Sawyer returns Jamie finds out that he works for the company that wants to develop the town into a more modern style, including her book store. So they but heads but also their hearts. A charming Valentines romance. I loved the movie and I really enjoyed the book.

If you love watching Hallmark movies then you'll love reading this story. It's based around Valentine's Day so the perfect romantic read. I adored our heroine so much. Jamie is a romance bookstore owner and she is spunky and strong and doesn't back down. Sawyer is our hero and an architect who works for a development company wanting to redesign the town the bookstore is in. Oh, and did I mention they were high school sweethearts that haven't seen each other in years? This story gives you drama with the development plans story line itself, but with our strong willed couple fighting their feelings with each other. There's so much beautiful romance thrown into this book that you'll have a tooth ache.

The Story of Us is a lovely, tender-hearted love story set around the most romantic day of the year—Valentine’s Day. Jamie and Sawyer were high school sweethearts who broke up 15 years ago. They reunite when he returns home, but they soon become adversaries. They are a wonderful couple, fighting their feelings for each other, not being able to see a future when they both seem to want different things. This is a cozy, small town, second chance love story, and I was charmed and delighted!

I LOVED the Accidental Beauty Queen so when this popped up, I jumped on the chance to read another book by Teri Wilson. When I say it's like reading a Hallmark movie, Teri actually writes Hallmark Movies. This was spot on in that category. The Story of Us is a second chance romance that mixes with enemies to lovers. Jaime and Sawyer were high school sweethearts who are now battling over the future of their small hometown and the future of her bookstore. The story of their struggles to reconnect, fight for their own dreams and the future of their community is heartwarming and very picturesque. It's easy to picture yourself IN Waterford watching this story unfold. This mix of Hallmark holiday and You've Got Mail is one to definitely add to your TBR.

Terrific second chance love story with slight enemies-to-lovers undertones. This is the book version of the Hallmark movie of the same name. I have not seen the movie. The book takes place in a small Oregon town where a bookstore owner finds herself going head-to-head with a development company's plans spearheaded by her old boyfriend.

Jamie grew up in Waterford, where the True Love Bookstore and Café was her favorite place as a child. She worked there as a teenager, and later when the owner decided to retire, Jamie bought the store. Jamie loves the historic atmosphere of the business district and the personal feeling of the shops there. But even she has to admit that the businesses are struggling, though she believes that everything will come around. That is until she receives a flyer from the town council advertising a meeting with a development company that wants to "revitalize" the area. She immediately thinks of a nearby town where the same thing happened, and what it did to the shops and owners there.

Sawyer is a freelance architect who grew up in Waterford. He hasn't been back since he left for college fifteen years earlier. He's tired of his nomadic life and wants a chance to set down roots. If he pulls off this redevelopment plan, the Ridley firm will hire him, and he will finally get that chance to stay in one place. He envisions a modern, multi-use development that will bring new business and more people to the town. The people he's talked to so far are onboard with the idea and he anticipates a quick approval.

Jamie and Sawyer have a history together. They were high school sweethearts until Sawyer left for college across the country. He broke up with Jamie, telling her they were too young for a permanent commitment. She hasn't seen him since then, so she is shocked when Sawyer suddenly appears in her bookstore. He is equally surprised to see her, as he didn't know that she owns the store. It's easy to see that the sparks are still there though neither wants to admit it. Jamie is on a "hiatus" from romance since the end of her last relationship, and Sawyer is focused on his project. Those sparks take on a different tone when Jamie discovers that Sawyer is the architect of what she calls "that hideous spaceship."

I loved the development of their relationship. Jamie is determined to keep Sawyer's proposed development from happening, and he is equally committed to getting it approved. I loved Jamie's creativity as she devised several plans to remind the people of Waterford of how special their town is, while Sawyer steps up his efforts to convince them of the benefits of his plan. It's a small town and Jamie and Sawyer find themselves in each other's company often. She is dismayed to see her old feelings for Sawyer resurfacing and afraid of getting her heart broken again. Sawyer discovers that being back in Waterford revives his memories of the good times, most of which involved Jamie, and his feelings for her reawaken. There were some delightful scenes between them as Jamie reintroduced Sawyer to Waterford. But the development plans still loom between them.

The box of old Valentines and love letters that Jamie found hidden away at the bookstore was an incredible discovery. The Valentines were written to the store from people who met their true loves there. It was sweet to see the history of the bookstore as revealed by those cards and their stories. However, it was the letters from the original owners of the bookstore that provided the most intense feelings. Jamie also couldn't help seeing the parallels between Mary and Harrison and herself and Sawyer. I ached for both of them as it looked like there was no way for one to win without the other losing. But one should never give up on true love, and Sawyer found inspiration in an unexpected source. I loved his big moment at the end and the creativity that won the day. I also adored Jamie's reaction. The epilogue was a great follow-up.

There was also a fun secondary romance going on. Restaurant owner Rick has it bad for Jamie's friend and coworker Lucy, but when they first met, he was dating someone else. Since he broke up with that woman, he hasn't been able to get up the courage to ask Lucy out. Meanwhile, Lucy seems oblivious to Rick's feelings and determined to find her "wow" moment. The interactions between Rick and Lucy were occasionally painful but always entertaining. It was easy to root for the two of them and cheer when it finally happened.

Synopsis:
In the charming town of Waterford, Oregon; local Jamie Vaughn runs the True Love bookshop with her feline tabby, Eliot. But business has been dwindling, something which Jamie doesn't want to quite admit and being February she's expecting a jump in sales in her romance only bookstore. But then appears the notice of the entire business district being up for redevelopment by Ridley Property Development.

In Portland, Oregon; Sawyer O’Dell is the architect responsible for redeveloping the Waterford business district. He can't help being nostalgic about his hometown and Jamie, his high school sweetheart. He's thirty-five and wants to make his position at Ridley permanent instead of working as a freelancer and to settle down there permanently.

While Jamie is determined to thwart Sawyer's plans believing it will snatch away the history of the place, Sawyer is equally determined to show Jamie that his redesigning will do a load of good to the district. Will they be over to get over this impasse while simultaneously trying to keep their growing attraction in check?

Review:
This one was a feel-good romance from the very first page. Based on a Hallmark Channel original movie, a quaint bookshop about to being taken down, the second chance love of high school sweethearts is one cute story. The small graphics throughout the book served as the cherry on top.

This story had so many bookish/classics references! And a deja vu about how Sawyer's well thought out plans were going to get upended. It was, after all, fifteen years since Jamie and Sawyer were last together. Jamie's determination to save True Love Books with some vintage goodness was so cute and at once powerful.

In this second-chance small-town romance, there is page upon page of tearing apart followed by joining back, a sprinkle of matchmaking, a passage of slicing and dicing followed by some old world and new school charm. It was funny to see them both trying to one-up each other. As was them wingman-ing their respective best friends to get the latter to express their love for each other. Then there was her ex's mother who just drops by to persuade her to move in with her ex again, how awkward is that!

It is the mushiest romance I have read in a while and what I believe is called a clean romance because I haven't read them in a long time! There are an epilogue and a surprise recipe at the end as well. I loved how the author brought forward the conclusion to the story, it was magical!

P.S. I had started reading Persuasion last month but had put it on hold since it was a bit slow for me but the summarization of that story in this book made me look at it from a different perspective. And made me want to pick it up again. Is this a sign?
But there was just something about Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth from Persuasion that made her weak in the knees—perhaps because they went against the usual formula. They met and fell in love when they were young. Shortly after they got engaged, though, they broke up and Wentworth left to rise through the ranks in the Navy. When he returned seven years later, Wentworth and Anne were near-strangers. But, of course, they fell in love all over again, even amid a variety of humorous encounters and missed opportunities. Wentworth finally confessed his feelings to Anne in a beautiful letter where he told her, “You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me that I am not too late…

Thank you to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for an e-ARC of the book!

A sweet, light Hallmark worthy story :)
I like that this author writes books that will leave you feeling good at the end. The last scene in this book especially made me smile because it happened to me :) I can’t say what it was because it would be a spoiler.

Jamie’s first loves were Sawyer and True Love books.
She actually met Sawyer in the store in high school.
They broke when he went away to college.
Their paths went in different directions. After a few years away, Jamie moved back to her hometown and bought the beloved bookstore.
Sawyer hasn’t had a permanent home in years. The last real home he had was in Waterford. He wants nothing more than to settle down. If he succeeds at his latest assignment at work, he will finally have a homebase. He will be able to buy a house and stop traveling all the time.

His new assignment at work is to modernize the business district of Waterford. He is sent back to town because his boss knows he used to live their. She’s hoping this will help his case with the townsfolk.

Meanwhile, Jamie is devastated that she might lose her bookstore. She is planning to fight tooth and nail to save it.
What she’s never expecting is that Sawyer works for the company threatening her livelihood. And Sawyer certainly isn’t expecting Jamie to be the first person he sees when he comes to town and he’s also surprised to learn that she owns the bookstore.

This book gives me the feel of You’ve Got Mail mixed with a bit of Persuasion.

What happens when your first love resurfaces after 15 years but they just might be the reason you lose your beloved bookstore?

The Story of Us was written based on a Hallmark movie, which is a bit different. I enjoyed this romance about a woman, Jamie Vaughn, whose bookstore is in danger of being closed as the owner of the building is redeveloping and will be bringing in different types of stores to the small community. Of course the architect who is drawing the plans is Sawyer, her old boyfriend who moved away when he went to college and never returned until now. Will she be able to block the plans or get him to see they can work together for the betterment of everyone?

This was a delightful, heartwarming story that is a perfect fit into the Hallmark family. The biggest downfall to me was that I had already seen the movie, so I knew what was going to happen. That being said, if you haven't seen the movie, and you love Hallmark movies, you will love this story. Jamie is a darling in the community and she works hard to get others on her side. Money talks, so she is up against that, but she perseveres. Of course Sawyer is the bad guy, at first, but he gradually comes around. This is a second chance romance, with characters that are easy to like. The secondary characters play a role in the story and the relationship between Rick and Lucy add some comic relief. Overall this is an uplifting story with a great happily ever after. Rachel L. Jacobs does a nice job with the narration.

I loved this movie so much I was excited to see that Hallmark Publishing had a book based on it. I was taken aback and reminded of all the things that make the story special. High school sweethearts reconnecting on different sides of potential overhaul of the business district in a small town. The fight to push their agenda while trying to deny the strong connection and love they have for eachother. Predictable but still amazing.

Light, feel good love story!
Jamie has been back in her home town for six years, working hard to make her beloved bookstore a success. She loves everything about the historic town and is very happy with how things are going until her exboyfriend, Sawyer, comes to town representing the development company that wants to buy all the small businesses and develop them into a booming business center. Jamie works hard to stop the selling of the store, and to stop herself from falling for Sawyer all over again. Can she find a way to keep her store and Sawyer at the same time?
I really enjoyed the book. The characters were real and wonderfully developed. While the plot was predictable, it was filled with fun, romance, and second chances.

This adorable, seasonal gem is a happy Valentine for readers who adore clean, fun and witty adventures. Literary followers will appreciate classical references from bookstore owner, Jamie. Whether her ex/first love, Sawyer, is on the nice or naughty list remains to be seen when he returns to the lovely town of Waterford for a rehabilitation project for the heart of the town. That heart is of supreme importance to Jamie, who fights for truth, justice and the way of preservation.

In search of a way to save her True Love Bookstore and its history, Jamie stumbles upon a treasure box of old letters and valentines. In the process, she reminds Sawyer of all he left behind in pursuit of big dreams and journeys elsewhere.

Enjoy this delight from Teri Wilson. I will certainly look for more offerings from this author.

This is a sweet escapist read. I have it on my phone to read throughout the day in little moments. A long line? Waiting for an appointment? Pick up at children’s school? This is the perfect book to pop my nose into and always come back out with a smile on my face. If you love romance novels, hometown nostalgia and hallmark movies this book is for you! The setting almost becomes a central character right away. I recommend this book for anyone looking to escape into their favorite hallmark movie setting and experience the feels right along with the characters! The cover really matches the story this time, such a cute and clean romance just in time for Valentines! A true book lover will completely relate to everything this story offers since that's what the main character, Jamie, is all about total book lover turned bookshop owner. Her best friend, Lucy, even knows how to make an excellent coffee latte for their customers. Just lovely!

Also really enjoyed the side story of Rick and Lucy, best friends to the main characters.

I kept picturing the actors who star in this Hallmark movie as I read it and can't wait to watch it. The letters in the story really didn't impress me, but they made a worthy effort to add romance. Wilson really knows how to win her readers over with stories like this one.

I received this as an ARC and have given my honest opinion of the book.

It’s a good story. A little slow at times, but good. One thing that would have made it special is to have a drawing of the business district before the changes, a drawing of Sawyer’s original design and a drawing of the end design. That would have brought the book more into reality. I did find a number of errors in the book. I guess it wasn’t proofread well.

You may think this book is just another tried and true boy loves girl, boy moves away, boy and girl reunite love story. Oh no- this is the sweetest, most refreshing and genuine romance I have ever read. The Story of Us features:

A charming small town in Oregon
A darling bookstore called the True Love Bookstore and Café
Cupcakes and flowers galore
Valentines and love letters
A handsome and educated guy, Sawyer
A pretty and spunky young lady, Jamie who is on a “romantic hiatus”
Good friends
An all-knowing cat
Lattes topped with heart-shaped whipped cream
A few problems, a la jane Austen
Sparkling chemistry between the two main characters, and their sidekicks

What more could you want? Well, how about a storybook ending featuring a kiss steeped in fairytales and valentines and a kiss born of literature and love stories. Happy Valentine’s Day and swoon over this appealing “once upon a time” romance. I agree with sweet Jamie, “the lure of love never goes away.”

And since this is a Hallmark romance, there is a recipe for Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto- wow! Thanks to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for an advance review copy. This is my honest review.

Loved this book! It’s often hard for me to read a book after I’ve seen the movie but Hallmark does a fantastic job with the adaptations! THE STORY OF US was even better than the movie! I felt like I got to know the characters on a much deeper level which helped me connect to the story even more. Nothing better than a happily ever after!

This is such a good book!
I truly enjoyed reading it!
It's a heartwarming & moving story.
Everything you want in a true romance.
Jamie, owns True Love Books & Cafe.
She has loved the place since she
was young. Now proud to call it her own.
She recently found a flyer about
a retail development project, that would tear down the area where her store is.
Sawyer, an architect, designer of the new project, is in Waterford to speak with the business owners & get the design approved. Spending time in his hometown & seeing Jamie again, has brought back the feelings he felt before.
It has the small town charm
& the comfort of friends & family.
A romantic story that pulls on your
heartstrings from start to finish!!
