Jessie Bradshaw may have survived a nightmare but recovering from its aftermath is proving harder than she could imagine. Desperate to feel safe again, she returns home to North Carolina to claim her late grandfather's house. It seems like a perfect solution, a hideaway near her family where she can lick her wounds in isolation, until a little boy needs a helping hand.
The last thing contractor Galen Andrews expected when checking out the mysterious new occupant across the road was to be threatened by a dog the size of a bear or have a surly woman ordering him off her land. And he certainly didn’t expect that same woman would help his young son Michael and then later hire Galen to renovate her crumbling inheritance.
It’s a dream come true for Galen, but can Jessie get past the terror of her past to risk putting her trust in someone again?
Sherelle Winters is an author, streamer, and software engineer who relocated from her home state of North Carolina to Texas in the early 2000s. Despite her decades in the state, she still longs for good-old-fashioned Carolina-style barbecue versus Texas-style barbecued meats, though she will sometimes admit that she also enjoys good brisket.
Jessie came back to town after a horrible ordeal, scared to go out in public, scared to face strangers. A little boy gave her the courage to get out of her house going to the grocery store. Then she met his father, Galen, who eventually got her to face her greatest fear, to let her be vulnerable and let him into her life even if it meant that he may reject her as he saw her scars, physical and emotional. But Galen already knew that she was special, the first woman who got him to open his heart since his wife died. Together they discovered that we are are our scars and we need to accept them in order to accept life. A good solid read.

When you combine a widowed father, an h trying to forget the demons of her past plus a dog or two, you have a very touching heartwarming tale. Jessie is suffering from PTSD & is having a hard time coping when she returns to live in a house left to her by her grandfather. Michael, her neighbours son, helps her face life again. Galen, his dad, a builder does the renovations on her home. Slowly they build a relationship, one he hasn't had since his wife died. A well written & inspirational story.

This is an intense, dramatic, heartbreaking and sweet. Jessie is suffering from PTSD so she decides to go home to try to get her life back together. Galen wasn't expecting his new neighbor to have a huge attack dog, he was just trying to be neighborly, not threatening. Therefore he's confused when she helps his son. Jessie let her guard down just a little, and then wonders if she has it in her to trust again. It's a very powerful storyline, with interesting and likeable characters. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

It's a heartbreaking and heartwarming story. Jessie is trying to find a way to overcome her PTSD by moving to her grandfather's house and feel safe again. Galen is a widower with a young son, Michael. It's a slow-building relationship between the grown-ups as they need to trust the other, but Jessie and Micheal stole my heart.

The story is heartbreaking while at the same time it's heartwarming. The characters are easy to fall in love with as they are perfect for each other, and they are each working on overcoming past pains and hurts. The story line is well written and you won't want to put the book down. Definitely well written for sure!

Take these broken wings and learn to fly. Jessie was brutally hurt and came to pick up the pieces of her shattered life at the home her beloved grandpa left her. Little did she know that moving back home would introduce her to Galen and his young son Michael. Her wing might have been broken but her she can find healing in this new home. Trigger warnings for sexual assault but it’s a beautiful story indeed.
I received a copy of this book through Voracious Readers Only. Trigger warning: Sexual assault The story is about Jessie who is rebuilding her life after an horrific attack. The story deals with PTSD and how she overcomes the trauma. Even going to the shops causes Jessie distress till she meets Michael. He helps her overcome obstacles. I wasn't too keen on the sex scenes as I found them a little too graphic. Overall it's worth a read.
This is the first book by this author that I have read a well written story that left me with one question. Who shot Crichton? I think I know but! I wonder if this is going to be a series and if James' story will be next. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was given a copy for an honest review. The story had potential, but it seemed a little rushed and everything was so perfect. With the storyline there could have been some real good suspense added. It did keep me entertained and I wanted to find out what had happened to to the heroine but none really showed much emotion.
I enjoyed this heartwarming romance. It has wonderful characters that were very well written and a good storyline. The author did a terrific job of building the relationships in this story.
