Note: For some reason, these two totally different books (Law School in a Box and Med School in a Box, respectively) are clumped together as the same book here on Goodreads. Anyway, they both get 4 stars. I've written my review for Med School in a Box below the Law School in a Box Review.
Law School in a Box: This was a fun and entertaining way to learn a lot of general knowledge about the U.S. legal system.
I took the Mental Floss Mini-Bar Exam at the end: my score was 33 correct out of 49, with one which I disputed (based on my knowledge of copyright law from my time as a playwright, I disagreed with the answer that was correct on the question pertaining to copyright law, and so am disputing it and awarding myself an extra point). Therefore, including my dispute, I got 34 out of 49 correct, for 69%, sine laude (I missed cum laude by one point).
Med School in a Box: I'm not a huge fan of medical details (they make me squeamish), and this book often made me feel that way, but overall it was a really fun way to learn about some basics of medicine, hospitals, diseases, etc.
I took Mental Floss's version of the The Boards at the end: my score was 41 correct out of 66, including one which I disputed and gave myself a half point for (due to silly wording, in my opinion) and another which I gave myself half credit for (the answer was Vitamin B12, and I said Vitamin B...in my opinion, that's a half point). My final score was 62%, which apparently was good enough for cum laude (which I missed on Mental Floss Bar Exam, despite having a better score).
Either way, it was fun reading both of these collections and taking their mock exams.
