Allahabad is known as Oxford of east. A centre of intellectuals, politicians and endless number of journalists where the unemployed youth from all over eastern UP comes with a dream of joining IAS/PCS. In this wonderful memoir the well known hindi fiction writer and Gyanpeeth Awardee Vimal Chandra Pandey has travelled through the nooks and corners and the murky lanes of Allahabad. The city becomes a character and one can get the pulse of contemporary politics, journalism, literature and youth of nineties going through this book. Written in a very interesting way and the language of a commoner this is a must read for those who have an interest in Eastern UP in particular and India in general.

Reading this book was another experience for me to read about my city where the author stayed for a couple of years and he beautifully discusses his experience of the city.
This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to have a light reading on the city of Allahabad.
