The Rage

Rate this book
The Rage had kept her numb until an unexpected love opened her heart and began to heal her traumatized spirit . . .

At sixteen years old, Trib is a deadly warrior apprentice who can easily summon the Rage that has always protected her people, the New Murians, from the Puritanics and anyone else who threatens their freedom. Then a murderous ambush leaves her wounded and wandering alone. Taken in by the peace-loving Natives after she saves the life of their young seer, she vows to protect them from the Puritanics whom she has inadvertently led to their village.

Resistant to her warrior-like ways, the Natives send her with their handsome tribal storyteller to seek help from her priestess leader. However, instead of finding aid, Trib discovers lies, deceit, and a shocking revelation about her own past that has her questioning everything. As an impending war threatens to destroy them all, she’s forced to make an impossible choice between the certainty of a world she knows and the uncharted path that awaits… “The Rage is fast-paced, gripping, and beautifully written, with a cast of appealing, unusual characters who struggle in a strange and threatening world.”Reeve Lindbergh-Two Lives”I liked Trib very much, with her blundering decency and sense of honor; the author has a keen nose for the spark of conscience in the most developed characters, and for the flaws necessary to give them reality.”John Bemrose – The Island Walker “A female warrior begins to question who the enemy really is, while slowly learning to control the murderous Rage.” Ruth Sanderson – The Enchanted Wood

Got this in a Goodreads Giveaway. Definitely different from my typical choices. Was hard to get into at first with the long difficult names (would have been nice to have a pronunciation guide, unsure if there is one somewhere the kindle app didn’t have a table of contents). Really good story over all, but the ending was super sudden.

Amazing story for new generations

An authentic fantasy page-turner! The story reflects our own challenges with identity, trauma and finding closure. A must read for those of us who feel things deeply.

Intriguing

For the first third of the book I hated it, partly because it was slow to get started and partly because I just couldn’t figure out exactly what it was, but once it got going I couldn’t put it down.

Won in a goodreads giveaway. This had the potential to be really good if it was a little more fleshed out. The ending left quite a few things open ended that I wanted answers to.

Multilayered and carefully researched, The Rage explores the crushing conflicts of different cultures competing for the same space in a primitive forest. The native tribes, the religious Puritanics, and the mystical all-women New Murians each bring distinct strengths to battle for their place. Trib is a young warrior-trained heroine who gradually awakens to the losses caused by violence. Fighting cannot be the only way to resolve differences, but she struggles for an alternative. The plot is fast-paced with vivid characters constantly challenging the exertion of power and violence. It is an accessible, complicated, but uplifting story.

Beyond a great adventure tale, Lassiter Williams tackles what it means to be powerful and female. She identifies how trauma, the price of violence, can be destructive for generations, and she probes for peace in a violent world.
