That was so freakin' hot it almost melted my kindle!

Amazing characters with scorching chemistry, and a sweet as hell story to go with it. Fantastic secondary characters back it all up and the whole thing works perfectly.

Only my third book by this wonderful author I'm quickly becoming a real fan. I adored the first novel in this series, A Taste of Sin, and The Cost of Desire is even better :)

I really liked this book and couldn’t put it down. I usually don’t enjoy the Daddy kink. It’s not my thing and I usually find it distracting and it makes me feel uncomfortable. That didn’t happen with this book and I loved both Jordan and Danny. It helped that the sex was super hot too.

I wanted to DNF this at 10% and I honestly should've, but it was so bad that it was entertaining.

Unrealistic, cringe-inducing, probably 50 sex scenes that weren't steamy in the slightest, underdeveloped and laughable daddy kink, fake dating with a OW, and some of the most awkward writing I have ever seen.

This wasn't good smut, it wasn't even fun smut.

The Cost Of Desire originally released during the Valentine’s Day free giveaway. It was a few short chapters as hot as fuck sex and I’ve been dying for Danny and Daddy Jordan’s story since. The book begins where the freebie did, so you get to see how Danny and Jordan get their start, then it jumps to eight months later and their relationship takes turns they never expected.

Danny is young. He’s nineteen and off to college. He’s been dreaming of the day he gets to start his own life, that was until his illicit affair with his father’s business partner turned into something so much more. Danny didn’t mean to fall in love, but I can’t blame him, I would have too. Suddenly moving away from home didn’t seem like such a good idea. My heart ached when his did. It was hard watching this young boy try to navigate life, so far away from the one he needed the most.

Daddy Jordan is well, he’s Daddy Jordan. He’s a bit rougher than the other Daddies Kate has written but in a good way. He’s successful and sophisticated and not afraid of what he’s building with Danny. I love his brand of dirty talk. I love the way he knows what he wants, even when he knows he shouldn’t want it. There are no excuses, no second guessing. Once he’s in with Danny he’s in and *sigh* I want one of him.

The long-distance relationship between Danny and Jordan works perfectly for them. They might not agree. They hated it, but it helped their relationship. They grew when they were apart. The distance didn’t make them love each other anymore, but it did make them appreciate each other. It hurt my heart when I saw them both hurting because they couldn’t have what they wanted, but it meant seeing them together was that much sweeter. It was a real-life dilemma that most aren’t strong enough to endure. I love that we were shown it could be done, if one believes in their partner and their relationship enough. Danny and Jordan didn’t have everything figured out, far from it, but they had each other, and they didn’t let the other forget that.

What I love best about this book are the parents. Danny and Jordan have a significant age difference between them. Jordan works with Danny’s dad. There are so many things against them. That’s why they keep their relationship a secret, but when his parents do find out, it’s not what it could have been. Yes, Danny’s parents aren’t happy. But they love their son. While I won’t give anything away, I can say it could have been much worse. I love reading age gap books, what I don’t like is when others react badly to the relationship because of age. Age is just a number. Two consenting adults should be able to fuck and date whomever they want. I’m so glad Kate didn’t do a long drag out thing where Danny’s parents were big issues. Was it easy? No, no one expected it to be. But it was handled perfectly.

This book was so worth the wait. I didn’t like waiting, but I loved the end result. Danny and his Daddy are so good together. They just click. What started as an illicit affair grew into more, and they showed each other, and everyone around them, that their love was worth the cost.

The Cost of Desire is the second book in Kate Hawthorne’s really enjoyable Secrets in Edgewood series. While Jordan and Danny are from the same hometown as the characters in A Taste of Sin, the stories are completely independent of one another, so you can read this one as a stand alone.

This story has an interesting beginning in that the first five chapters were originally part of a free short story. So there is sort of a mini story arc to these chapters that take us from the guys first hooking up until about a week later when we see they are still seeing each other. There isn’t a firm ending here, but I can see how the short story could have wrapped things up for them. I definitely liked these guys together and I think Hawthorne did a really nice job developing this beginning for them into a full story. It isn’t totally seamless, but the initial chapters do transition really nicely into the larger story. It does mean, however, that these guys get together really fast and things are pretty much immediately intense as they originally only had a few chapters for their story. So we see them hang out for one night before they are falling into bed (or over desk) together and then after that week, the story jumps ahead to the fall when Danny is leaving for school. So I do feel like I would have liked to see more of their relationship building as we jump over a lot of that early time together. That said, I do think the story flows nicely and once we move past this early section it’s even smoother.

This was a hot little morsel. The sex scenes really knocked this out of the park. It did read like a cheesy porno at some points, but I need that sometimes.

I’ve been going through a lot, and it kept my attention...at least for 50%. I won’t consider it a romance, because although these two had smoking chemistry, I wasn’t feeling the emotional connection. And that’s okay!

I might finish this when I need hot daddy/boy sex, but for now, I’m gonna try something with a bit more substance.

The Cost of Desire is a definite panty-soaker. It’s a solid daddy kink dynamic that I really enjoy.

Oh boy.....I haven't read the first book in this series...yet..but this one I couldn't miss...I love Daddy/Boy books and books with an older guy/younger guy...Jordan gets together with his business partners 19 year old son (Jordan is 43) and they are so damn hot together...Even though Danny is only 19 he doesn't come across as immature and I think he's really suited to Jordan...Jordan was omg the perfect daddy....They do get together pretty quick which didn't bother me, and we all know that they are going to get found out and Danny's dad finds out it's in spectacular fashion....Poor Jordan.....I love this authors books and I will definitely get round to reading the first in the series x

This went wrong for me from the start. I think this was originally a novella that was expanded into a full novel. Unfortunately it seems all the extra was tacked on to the end, so the pacing went from ultra fast to slow.

These guys start banging from the start, for no apparent reason. All of a sudden there’s a guy being called Little Boy and shoved to his knees and I’m like, where did this come from??

Already by 12% they’d been screwing around for 6 months, doing all sorts of secret kinky meetups. Then Danny goes to college and it all slows down, for the dramatics.

The fake dating bit was dumb and unnecessary. The daddy/boy kink was just ok - mostly they just called each other Daddy and Little Boy *shudder* and Jordan was a bit bossy.

This book contains an actual boat load of sex scenes, to the point where it became repetitive and boring and I started skimming toward the end.

The end was predictable and it all resolved pretty easily, considering how the MC’s spent 80% of the book fretting over how bad it would be.

Forbidden Fruit 🍎

The coupling and coupling and coupling again of Danny (little Boy) & Jordan (Daddy) with a tiny bit of romance throw in! Kate Hawthorne is known for her down and dirty romance. This one’s no different. I especially liked Danny and his comical friend Toby. I initially thought Jordan was arrogant arse but he grew on me. If you like your romance to start off with a bang, then this one is for you!

I was fortunate enough that I got to read an advance copy of The Cost of Desire and I've been waiting to shout about it for WEEKS! When I read Daddy Jordan and Danny's New Year's Eve short, I knew then I would want more and this did not disappoint. Each and every one of Kate's books is hot, but this was some next-level hotness. I loved the way The entire book, I wondered how they were going to have their happy ending, but I really shouldn't have been worried. Be prepared to love not only Daddy Jordan and Danny, but Toby as well. As always, Kate has created a side character who's so wonderful and amazing, I want more of him. All in all, this was an amazing book and you should DEFINITELY read it right now. Just be prepared to need a few cold showers.

Daddy Jordan & Danny

I think I may say this with every book of this author’s, but this is my new favorite of hers!! This one was AMAZING. I’m pretty sure I had stars in my eyes and my mouth hung open while I read it. I love a good Daddy story, and with one of the MCs being in college, this was a “give it to me now” book. I love the care aspect of the Daddy dynamic and Daddy Jordan definitely took care of his boy Danny. It was super hot, filthy, naughty and if you’ve read this author before - your dose of anticipated bacon. I know this one is moving to the top of my Daddy book list. This is dirty sweetness at its finest, and I couldn’t recommend this book more!

Daddy Jordan and his boy Danny are an absolutely amazing read. Hot and steamy scenes mixed with sweet and loving moments - the daddy kink adds the spice. I like the hidden lovers theme with the drama it supplied to the story. Definitely worth reading.

Read twice :)

I’ve read this twice now so maybe I should attempt a review. Very sexy and fun dynamic, if a bit awkward when it’s your business partner’s son. Kate Hawthorne writes kink well.

I didn't like how this story started, but by the end Danny and Daddy Jordan won me over. I think what caught me so off guard in the beginning is how quickly Danny and Jordan hooked up and how miraculously compatible their kinks were. Don't get me wrong--it was super hot to read about all the filthy things they got up to, but I was missing the emotional connection between them. I wish there had been even a couple extra chapters to warm me up to the idea of them together. It didn't help that the first six months of their hookups were fast-forwarded, so any chance of me getting that satisfying emotional buildup went out the window. After Danny went away to college, the pace of the story slowed down significantly and I enjoyed the romance much more. I loved how sweet and pliant Danny was with Jordan while still being very sure about exactly what he wanted from him. Seeing how committed Danny and Jordan were to making things work long-distance told me everything I needed to know about how serious they were about each other. When they did make time to meet up, their passion ignited into such incredibly hot encounters that took my breath away. For a story that rode the line between desperate longing and angst, I was surprised by how maturely Danny's family reacted to finding out about his relationship with Jordan. Danny and Jordan had built it up into this impossible barrier to get across, so when things actually worked out it was such an unexpected relief. I thought the epilogues--set multiple years into the future--were such a lovely way to get a glimpse into Danny and Jordan's "happily-ever-after".

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

This book starts with an office hook-up of a relatively “forbidden” nature – young adult with dad’s business partner – and evolves into an incredibly sweet nontraditional romance. Of course, sweet is relative when most of the book is packed with angst and kink, but that’s what you sign up for with a Hawthorne book. In this case, Danny and Jordan are probably the most surprised of anyone by the depth of their connection. The usual minor drama is expected when the relationship is long-distance and involves a significant age-gap element. Still, I appreciated Danny’s commitment to Jordan and the work Jordan does to both be worthy of that commitment and never take advantage of it.

The relationship depicted here does involve a significant power dynamic element, but even though Danny calls Jordan “Daddy,” this is not a Daddy kink story. However, that title sets up the drama of the climactic reveal, which Hawthorne handles in a way that is true to the story and completely surprising for the reader in terms of how Danny’s parents react to their son’s relationship.

The adorable “subplot” of the relationship that develops between Danny’s best friend and roommate perfectly breaks the heaviness of the inherent angst of a long-distance relationship. Though I often have no patience for college-age characters, Jordan and his self-awareness are a terrific foil that made reading this book less frustrating than it might have otherwise been. It’s easy to see echoes of this book in Reckless, a later book by Hawthorne, and so this book is definitely worth the read to appreciate how the author continues to develop as an amazing writer.

Danny and Jordan have a sexy hookup on Valentine's Day, when Danny is interning at the company Jordan owns with Danny's father. That brief interlude is the start of a relationship that is kinky, hot, and above all, something no one close to them can know about. The road to love is full of fears and doubts, but Daddy Jordan calling Danny "baby boy" is everything. These two grow to love each other, despite the pain of keeping that love a secret.
Both Danny and Jordan are likeable and deserving of the happiness they find in each other. The secondary characters are believable and interesting. Danny's friend Toby is quirky and blunt, and each scene with him brings a smile. This is a really good, really sexy love story. It's another winner from an author I always enjoy.

Have it all.

This started as a five chapter freebie for Valentine's day, and I am so happy Kate Hawthorne chose to continue it. Five chapters left this one hanging and most likely headed for a mental fill in the blank break-up when Danny left for college.

If you like Jack and Channon from His Boy Next Door, you'll probably like this one, although Jorden goes by daddy, not Sir. I like it when it's the older, more controlled character who has to come out. It always feels like they have more to lose. Kate's written long distance Daddy Kink before, but this is still a unique and varied plotline. Love the hea. Kind of hoping Toby and Tim might be in an upcoming book. Toby is adorable.

Very hot, age-gap, daddy kink story. Danny and Jordan hook-up at the beginning of the book, so the story is really about their relationship ups and downs. They have to keep everything a secret because Jordan is business partners with Danny's father, and Danny's father might not be thrilled that his 43 year old partner is fucking his 19 year old son. Danny and Jordan also have a long-distance relationship to deal with since Danny is away at college. There were many sex scenes (definitely not complaining, just saying) and they were all very hot! I liked the secondary characters, especially Danny's parents and his roommate Toby. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more.

Yess yess yesssss and a thousand more times yes! It's like Kate writes what I need, what I love. And she wirtes always amazing books and characters!

The first 5 chapter of this book was released earlier - An Illicit Affair - and i loved Danny and Daddy Jordan back then, but now, holy fuck! They were everything!

Jordan... DADDY *sigh* i have no words! I loved everything about him, especially his dirty mouth. And the way he loved and cared for Danny. Oh and Danny was such a cutie, young but a strong person.

I love daddy-kink books, and this book was one of the bests! Highly recommend it!

Yes, please!

I was initially drawn to this book for the dirty little scenes someone mentioned to me. And boy did it deliver. But I was pleasantly surprised to find a story jammed packed with heart and soul.

Jordan and Danny’s story is one of longing and desire. Desire for each other and desire to have what appears just out of reach. Both men are looking for something, some type of fulfillment, and they find it with each other. I adored these two together. Jordan was such a good daddy to Danny.

I didn’t read the first book in the series, nor the last, but this was a wonderful standalone. Highly recommended.

This book was brilliant and I highly recommend it!! Falling in love with your father's friend/ business partner is not one if my favorite tropes in romance but it's so amazingly done in this book! The chemistry between Danny and Jordan was absolutely explosive! And the level of love and caring between the two if them just melted my heart . It's a great book, beautifully written with deep and easy to connect with characters and I just couldn't put it down. I loved the side characters too. Especially Tim and Toby. I listened the audiobook and the narrator was amazing, he really brought the characters to life. Fantastic!

yes and yes 🌶🖤

I absolutely adored the story of Jordan and Danny.

Age gap ✔
Dad's best friend ✔✔
Spicy ✔✔✔

Jordan is a divorced, well established financially, and bi-sexual (which he discovered later in life). Danny is the son of Jordan's business partner, much younger, and going across country to college. One night alone in the office and everything changes. Their story is sweet and spicy, both have underlying jealous and possessive tendencies. They end up making it work!

The only thing I wish there was more of is story and plot, I feel like the author skipped over somethings when she could have gone more in depth!

4.5 stars.. A great Daddy and Boy story and age gap romance. A long distance relationship with Danny away at college. They both hit if of with hot sexy office scenes but they grow attached to each other. The big boo was with Danny's father being in partnership with Jordan. Age difference is another hurdle. I loved the ending as secrets have a way of coming out. Tim and Toby have a great finish too.

Danny 19 was an intern at the father company before going to college.
Jordan 43 devorced Bi closeted being his dad's business partner both working on Valentines night. Things steam up fast....
