This book is short in terms of the time it took to read it. I liked the introduction at the beginning about what intermittent fasting is about! I thought it was very informative. I also liked how the information was cited by various medical articles in the chapter about scientific facts. I am a retired nurse & it all made sense to me!
My daughter & I read it together. My daughter felt the author did a good job describing the process & the various choices you have to start intermittent fasting. My daughter liked the feel of choice rather than a one size fits all. She has been taking one day a week to fast for her preference.
I shared this book with my son who does intermittent fasting with his cardio routine. He is a body builder. He does 16 hours of fasting & an 8 hour window of eating. He also has been eating raw veggies if he is hungry during the fast time. He also is eating cleanly & avoiding processed foods.
I have been trying the routine of 16 hrs fasting & 8 hrs eating window. I did email the author & she relates that the recipes are geared for the 14 hr fast/10 hr eating window. She says you can tweak the recipes to fit your goals if losing weight is a goal, obviously decreasing the volume of refined carbs like breads, cakes, etc. & sensible choices in terms of serving size also were some feedback ideas from the author. My daughter follows the keto diet & was concerned about carbs. I think many of the recipes are high in protein & would be adaptable for keto or paleo diets.
I tried 3 of the recipes. I can't write a review without trying some recipes in a cookbook!! The egg & oatmeal pancake with cottage cheese was really delicious! It didn't take long to make & was perfect for a bedtime snack. The pancake held together nicely & the cinnamon on top of the cottage cheese gave it flavor.
I also made the breakfast cookies with cherry & almonds using whole wheat flour. I liked substituting sugar with maple syrup & using applesauce instead of oil or butter. My husband approved of these cookies. They held together nicely & were very moist & filling.
The third recipe was the apple & walnut loaf. Once again the whole wheat flour gave it a nice moist density. Honey is a nice sweetener & applesauce is great instead of oil or butter. Very moist & held together well just like the breakfast cookies.
All in all I was pleased with the recipes & look forward to making more!
I really enjoyed the book & learning about intermittent fasting. I was surprised my adult children knew about this type of eating pattern & were already implementing it in their lives. My daughter knows there are other choices for her to follow as well in terms of hours of fasting & eating if she chooses to change from her one day a week fasting.
I look forward to using this book as a reference to share with others who may have questions about intermittent fasting & will be making more recipes!
I chose to read this e-book after receiving a free copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
I had read a little about intermittent fasting in a book about nutrition a while back so when the author offered this book to me, I was happy to read it because I was interested in learning more. Intermittent Fasting has a lot of good information!
The book starts by explaining what intermittent fasting is, the benefits of it, who should not try it, and the many different types of intermittent fasting from just a few hours to a day or two. It also details what foods are best to eat and which ones to avoid. There is plenty more information and then the second half of the book is full of recipes, some of which I’m going to try out.
This book and other sources explain the scientific reasons why fasting is important for our bodies. I think it’s important information for those with Diabetes Type II, those who want to lose weight, and anyone who wants to feel better overall. The most important thing is to pick the one that is best for you and your lifestyle.
I definitely recommend Intermittent Fasting, and I plan on trying it myself. This is not a diet…it is a change in eating habits. I’ve known for a long time that lifestyle changes are what help us lose weight and keep it off.
This book was a good introduction to intermittent fasting it gave an overview on several ways to fast. It also gave information on how fasting affects your body. It had. A 28;day meal plan and shopping list which was nice.
