Mia is the author of the Crime Lord and Singed Series. She writes dark, contemporary romances that make you question your beliefs and leave you feeling drained and emotionally bereft. If you like your men dark with questionable morals and a possessive edge, you’ve come to the right place.
When Mia isn’t writing, she’s most likely on a road trip. She loves coffee, daydreaming, and the sound of rain storms. She is constantly shadowed by her dogs who don’t judge her when she laughs and cries with the voices in her head. Mia’s also a notorious hermit so please be patient if she doesn’t get back to you promptly.
Mia Knight only released the first half of the fifth book in the Crime Lord series to tide over the people who've been waiting patiently for the next installment in this series, but it was the size of a full book so I personally felt very satisfied regardless.
The plot was extremely slow burn, with maybe a little bit too much focus on makeovers and clothing changes, but still automatically a five star read once Gavin showed up and he and Carmen had their very emotional showdown. I love them so much. I also loved the glimpse we were given into the inner workings of the New York underworld, and also Marcus finally showing his real personality and becoming a bit of a caveman in regards to Carmen, which I thought was hysterical as she's so fierce and alpha herself.
I missed Lyla, but I appreciate that we've had a chance to just focus on Carmen's story without Lyla and Gavin overwhelming the narrative. They are beloved characters, and they would definitely take the focus away from what is going on with Marcus/Angel/ Carmen.
Speaking of Angel, he has no chance of winning Carmen's affections. I'm calling it right now. I was surprisingly rooting for Marcus in the last installment, as he's not my usual type of male lead, thinking that Angel and Carmen are way too similar, but now I know for sure Carmen doesn't have any feelings for him. Maybe my mind will change in the last half of this book, but I doubt it.
After years of waiting, earlier this year Mia promised the book is coming this Summer. 6 months in, she’s now decided she’s going to pivot and she has no idea when it’s coming. I hate when authors string us along. Just be upfront from the start, you didn’t just miraculously realise weeks before you promised a release that it’s not going to happen this year at all and maybe not even next year. She said that all she had to do was edit Carmen’s books and they would be released this year. So many authors are stringing us along and it’s a bit of a piss take tbf. I’ve refrained from ‘shit talking’ for so long but I’ve had it.
* Update Jan/2021* Mia graced us with an unedited version of the first half book 5.. what a wonderful way to start off 2021 am I right? Even though it's not the full book like originally expected, I'll take it. This definitely is a slow- burn in comparison to Lyla and Gavins books. But I am sooooo down for this. And holy mother of all that's holy, I want a book on Luci!!!!! Now that would be a series I'd die for, there's just so much to unpack with the Roman family and the NY underworld. Anywayssss, back to Vegas baby. Can't wait to see more of a grovelling Marcus.. I was surprised how his character changed up in the end of this half.
Sooo like that chapter 1 teaser tho.....Mia Knight you are killliiiiiiing meeeee. I can't wait for more Carmen!!! And omg we'll get to see more of those in New York. Im so so excited for the rest of this. Especially after Mia announcing that we're getting more than originally anticipated. I mean for some that may be a deal breaker, but I'm so ready for more. Mia sure knows how to tell a story and develop the plot and characters. One of my fav things about her writing!
I have to say, I am quite disappointed in the substance/plot of this book. It felt like a filler novel. No matter the word count, the story line of this book focused on innate things - things I can barely recall because they were so subpar / ordinary / boring.
It takes skill for an author to keep on track with plot, to have an understanding of where the book will go and not letting the characters lead them. Some authors romanticise being led on a journey by the characters they have created, but in terms of output, I find that this usually results in poor story telling. In my opinion, some of the best stories have been told by authors who have structure and focus in their books and work.
I really want to read Awakened but I was waiting for book two first. Its going on two years whats up with that. I love Angel but I'm team Marcus. A bad ass like Marcus should corrupt Alice.
