Reader, I declare to you at the outset that I have been insane - crazy eno'ugh to kill. But in my misery, God has showed me what insanity is - its true cause and its effects. Therefore, to Show to all as it has been revealed to me, what. Is the real cause of insanity, is the first object of this book.

The second Object like unto it, is to Show that generally the doctors' cannot cure insanity, or even relieve th'e insane.

The third is to Show how the poor insane are treated and maltreated in the hospital where I am confined.

The fourth is to explain to all what is the only reasonable treatment of the dreadful trouble and its cure.
